[00:02:59] <crutchy> yah i read something about that, although cos i got it in a thread polling won't hang up the gui anyway
[00:03:20] <crutchy> i set it up similar to how i would set up a delphi async socket

[00:04:30] <crutchy> and cos i got it buried in a server class its kinda separated from the normal form events (the socket events are handled by private handlers in the server class)
[00:04:49] <crutchy> aww. bye imogen o/
[00:04:58] <Deucalion> hmm...I feel bad
[00:05:08] <chromas> now he's at the bottom of the top

[00:06:05] <chromas> ooh, many more bots are in the list now
[00:06:35] <Deucalion> ha - I know jack shit.... chromas could run rings around me at this stuff, I'm still a peon
[00:06:45] <chromas> from the lolwut dept
[00:06:50] <crutchy> peons are awesome

[00:08:37] <crutchy> there was still some stuff i didn't manage to get from xlefay before he... moved on
[00:09:28] <crutchy> he was building a services bot, which i sorta understood the mechanics of, but i didn't get to find out how to set up charybdis to work with services :(
[00:12:33] <Deucalion> I learnt a lot from xlefay in the short time I spoke with him. Now I am muddling around figuring other things out and making my own notes. The documentation is out there in terms of commands but it has no "why" or "when" type context.
[00:12:54] <chromas> That's irc for ya :)
[00:14:05] <crutchy> yeah he taught me a few things about irc
[00:14:20] <crutchy> introduced me to the ts5/6 protocol
[00:14:44] <crutchy> not all irc's are created equal
[00:14:58] <Deucalion> I'm just a little wary messing with configs to experiment lest I open a gaping hole that lets paedoterristhackzers lolbots destroy things due to my idiocy :D
[00:15:46] <chromas> Maybe you can set up a test instance on the dev server or something
[00:15:58] <chromas> that we can come pound and lolbot for you :D
[00:16:06] -!- aqu4 has quit [Quit: aqu4bot baking shutting down.]
[00:16:10] <chromas> lolbotomize
[00:16:30] <crutchy> xlefay had a 'xanlan' irc server set up in his living room that we were testing shiz on
[00:17:19] -!- aqu4 [aqu4!~aqu4bot@universe2.us/ircbot/aqu4] has joined #Soylent
[00:17:41] <Deucalion> Good thought - probably just spin up a cheap VPS and run the same setup there to experiment with.
[00:17:41] -!- Subsentient has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[00:18:25] <crutchy> unfortunately xlefay.nl isn't running anymore :(
[00:18:38] <chromas> put it on your lan so we can peep into your PCs :)
[00:18:46] <Deucalion> newp :P
[00:18:59] * crutchy had a charybdis running for a bit
[00:19:08] <crutchy> no services though :(
[00:19:33] <crutchy> i even had a php irc "server" running public for a bit
[00:19:46] <crutchy> chromas might remember that one :p
[00:21:02] <Deucalion> I had charybdis and atheme-services running in separate VMs at home and working together OK on the LAN. I was vaguely thinking it maybe sensible to have them run on separate hosts here at SN and wanted to see how it worked. Burnt those VMs since as I took no notes in setting them up.
[00:22:05] <crutchy> there's manuals for setting up atheme, but doesn't seem to translate to connecting a custom service
[00:22:13] <crutchy> or at least i couldn't get it to work
[00:22:36] <crutchy> but i know that xlefay did because i watched his connections

[00:23:33] <Deucalion> Anyone played XCOM: Enemy Unknown? Thinking of grabbing it in the Steam sale - would be my first turn based game :D
[00:24:12] <chromas> "Not I," said the pig
[00:24:30] <crutchy> i'm a longtime civ player, but never played xcom
[00:25:48] <Deucalion> meh - £5 for the complete pack... figure I'll give it a go, not done the whole turn based thing before so worth a punt I guess.
[00:27:21] <SirFinkus> I've heard it's pretty good Deucalion

[00:44:37] <SpallsHurgenson> hmm... I dunno. Let me check...
[00:45:01] * SpallsHurgenson searches the various configuration options until he finds one called "Router GUI Style"
[00:45:29] <SpallsHurgenson> choices are "blue, cyan, green, lromo, orange, elegant, wikar, yellow... and boobies!"
[00:46:56] <crutchy> need to flick the switch from 'router' to 'rooter'

[01:16:26] * SpallsHurgenson reflashes the router back to its OEM firmware

[01:19:02] <SpallsHurgenson> mostly just to expand wireless range... lots of concrete'n'steel in these walls :)
[01:21:16] <SpallsHurgenson> probably the interference from the other 40+ wireless networks doesn't help either
[01:21:19] <crutchy> you need the bunker model
[01:21:30] <SpallsHurgenson> (so obviously the correct solution is to add more wifi transmitters :)

[02:34:46] <SpallsHurgenson> death threats /are/ illegal...
[02:34:54] <SirFinkus> in the linked comments, you're the only one making threats
[02:35:56] <Hazuki> How is telling him that if he keeps this up the admins are going to permban him in ANY way equivalent to "you should be burned?"
[02:36:24] <Hazuki> and yes, FOR NOW he seems only delusional, but I'm getting shades of Marc Lepine from him.
[02:37:12] <SirFinkus> "I swear to Ishtar, Mikhail, if you keep this shit up someone is going to find you and take you to task for it. We all know exactly who you are, and I bet the site admins could trace your connections fairly easily." I'd interpret that as a vague threat of retribution, I don't know anything about your history with him, only going with what I'm reading
[02:37:54] <Hazuki> I'm trying to get him to see that people don't just let this stuff slide, that he might tick off someone even nuttier than him if he's unlucky
[02:38:25] <SpallsHurgenson> if only people would stop feeding the trolls...
[02:38:31] * SirFinkus shrugs
[02:38:59] <Hazuki> this guy has a very, very long history of this kind of behavior, you know. a quick google for MikeeUSA turns up some really disturbing stuff
[02:39:21] <Hazuki> this is not some 14 year old in his mother's basement covered in cheetos dust and day-old jizz stains
[02:39:37] <SpallsHurgenson> trolls want attention. you are giving it exactly what it wants.
[02:40:15] <Hazuki> well, apparently i'm not getting through the man's titanium cranium, so maybe it's time he went elsewhere
[02:40:28] <SpallsHurgenson> its one thing if he's stalking you but if he's just espousing ridiculous beliefs, then just ignore the asshole and move on with your life
[02:40:56] <SirFinkus> I'm not in charge, but it seems like a bad precedent to ban someone based on what they may have said on some other sites
[02:41:02] -!- diginet has quit [Quit: diginet has quit!]
[02:41:12] <Hazuki> ordinarily that is how i deal with trolls, yes. this guy is more than your common or garden shitposter though. he reminds me a lot of Mabus actually.
[02:41:32] <SirFinkus> I'd just ignore him/ mod off topic and report any specific threats to the admins

[02:42:10] <Hazuki> hmm, okay. i hate to let him get away with it, but that may be my overdeveloped sense of justice speaking
[02:43:01] <crutchy> Hazuki, best advice i can offer: don't feed the troll
[02:43:08] <SirFinkus> I doubt he's gaining marketshare with his weird rants
[02:43:23] <crutchy> silence is the best defense
[02:43:41] <Hazuki> eh, a solid ban is the best defense, but silence is on the list i guess
[02:43:56] <SpallsHurgenson> its the best offense too; once they lose their audience they either move on or - in rare cases - even conclude that they need to moderate their behavior
[02:44:10] <crutchy> if you ignore him, he'll enevtually leave you alone and move onto someone else
[02:44:11] <Hazuki> then again if he's posting from Tor it's like playing whackamole with 2^32-1 holes...
[02:44:26] <crutchy> if he gets banned, that will fuel his rant also
[02:44:37] <SirFinkus> censorship is worse than letting this douche post
[02:44:47] <crutchy> ^
[02:45:02] <Hazuki> SirFinkus, generally I'd agree with you. i just don't want him becoming another Lepine
[02:45:51] <crutchy> Hazuki, next time he posts a reply to you, i recommend not replying to him
[02:46:15] <SirFinkus> and banning him would prevent that?
[02:46:19] <Hazuki> guess my current tack of "rip at his obvious insecurities" isn't doing enough damage fast enough huh? maybe he's too far gone to be vulnerabe to normal discourse
[02:46:37] <crutchy> on the contrary, you are fueling it
[02:46:50] <crutchy> if you bite, he wins
[02:47:06] <Hazuki> i will never understand these people :/ is he a masochist? does he just need a session with a really hard domme?
[02:47:07] <crutchy> that's trolling 101
[02:47:21] <SpallsHurgenson> if he truly is psychotic enough to kill people, banning him or discouraging him from venting his bile would do nothing to stop a violent outburt anyway
[02:47:53] <SirFinkus> ripping at insecurities is a pretty shitty way to argue
[02:48:06] <Hazuki> he's not arguing though
[02:48:14] <Hazuki> and technically it's not ad hom if it's true and relevant :v
[02:48:40] <SirFinkus> if he's not making an argument, why argue back?
[02:48:49] <SpallsHurgenson> if you truly feel he is a threat, report him to authorities. otherwise ignore him. but in no way does engaging him help. you aren't going to convince him of anything.

[16:24:23] <Leebert> A definite "huh?" moment...

[16:25:03] <cmn32480> goes out in a few hours
[16:25:14] <Leebert> cool
[16:25:19] <Leebert> and hello, cmn32480. long time no talk.
[16:25:35] <cmn32480> how goes my friend?
[16:25:36] <Leebert> Hope things are going well for you here in the Free State.
[16:25:56] <Leebert> Busy. Fighting stupid bureacracy in the federal government takes a lot of time. :)
[16:26:14] <cmn32480> Free State? Did you move?
[16:26:25] <Leebert> it is a bit of a misnomer.
[16:26:39] <cmn32480> some say misnomer... otehrs say lie
[16:27:04] <cmn32480> sorry to hear you are fighting the beuracracy
[16:27:14] <Leebert> I'm white, middle class, male, and live in carroll county.. so it's still pretty free for me at least. :(
[16:27:54] <Leebert> Yeah, most recent fun is some bureacrat in the agency deciding that we should have a device naming convention for every. device. in. the. agency.
[16:27:55] <cmn32480> same, in Harford County...
[16:28:07] <Leebert> Because our inventory sucks.
[16:28:15] <Leebert> So we'll fix it with a naming standard. Because reasons.
[16:28:16] <cmn32480> this woul dbe a pencil pusher, not an IT person
[16:28:30] <cmn32480> think the Iam Murdock thing is breaking news?
[16:28:38] <Leebert> The guy who signed the requirement failed up out of government a few months ago.
[16:28:48] <cmn32480> lol
[16:29:17] <Leebert> Regardless, it's tough to stop that kind of thing once it's set in motion, and it's going to cost a ridiculous amount of time and, by extension, money.
[16:29:34] <cmn32480> our tax dollars at work!
[16:29:53] <Leebert> Every. freaking. device. From the connected coffee pot to laptops on the space station.
[16:29:56] <Leebert> Because reasons.
