[01:00:44] <SpallsHurgenson> confused declaration and insistence that somebody must have been misusing his nick to besmirch his good name
[01:02:59] <BadCoderFinger> Well, that much is obvious.
[01:03:16] <BadCoderFinger> How are you, Spalls?

[01:04:10] <Bytram> I/m slowly getting my new[ish] lappy setup

[01:04:25] <Bytram> gesundheit!
[01:04:29] <Bytram> =)
[01:05:11] <Bytram> anyone here have a fast pipe who could check some downloads for me?
[01:05:42] <SpallsHurgenson> hey, I'm rockin' 1mbps here; is that the sort of speed you're lookin' for? :)
[01:05:54] <Bytram> My connection was a bit slow early today and also this evening... want to double check two files I downloaded to see if the checksums are as they should be.
[01:06:04] <Bytram> that's my top speed atm
[01:06:20] <Bytram> but this pm I was getting 10-20 kB/sec
[01:06:21] <Bytram> =(
[01:06:29] <SpallsHurgenson> Verizon lineworkers are going on strike; I'm sure that won't affect aything either :)

[01:10:15] <Bytram> okay the MD5 and SHA-1 for the .exe file checked out.

[01:23:40] <Bytram> time to install VLC
[01:26:08] <SpallsHurgenson> does vlc even need installing? I thought it was portabello

[01:37:47] <Bytram> I want a pony!
[01:38:35] * SpallsHurgenson suddenly wants a pony too
[01:39:04] <BadCoderFinger> So, it seems the haggling has finished. Spalls will trade a pony (keeping one for himself) for a five-year-old laptop from Bytram. Capitalism wins again!

[02:21:22] <Deucalion> SirFinkus, Creative Fatal1ty heaphones, nothing special. Feel a bit lightweight plasticy creaky in construction. Little bit bass biased for music, but fine for games. Major plus point for me is they are really comfortable as a spectacle wearer - previous Logitech headset had a knack of pushing the specs arms into my head and causing pain, leading to perching the specs over the 'phones. So far so good with the the caveat they are certainly not a
[02:21:22] <Deucalion> udiophile type things, just comfortable and OK sounding.
[02:23:49] <SpallsHurgenson> what, no gold contacts and directional wiring?
[02:26:24] <BadCoderFinger> And a huge monster logo on the cable?
[02:26:48] <Deucalion> well the pluggy bits are of a golden colour, but it's not sold as gold contacts so that's probably some other metal plating that has a similar hue.
[02:26:49] <SpallsHurgenson> like red stripes on a car!

[02:30:08] <Deucalion> It has a volume / mic on/off control in the cable that feels a bit flimsy BadCoderFinger - I'll be leaving that alone, that's what messed up on my last set and if you ever dissected and tried to resolder those headphone cable innards you'd understand why... each core is about the width of a human hair and has some supernatural ability to repel solder.
[02:30:29] <BadCoderFinger> I have, and you're right.
[02:31:40] <Deucalion> I have no idea what they make them from, but I have never seen solder roll off like that despite applying flux.
[02:32:02] <BadCoderFinger> Was it the silver based stuff?
[02:33:16] <Deucalion> Years ago - probably some cheap ass lead free solder I had to hand. Lawd knows what it was constituted from.

[02:34:39] <BadCoderFinger> The silver stuff needs a higher temperature, but as long as I tin the wires first, it's been ok.
[02:35:09] <BadCoderFinger> The problem with the hair wires was stripping the silly thing. The jacket was way stronger than the strands.
[02:35:53] <Deucalion> True - I found burning the jacket off with a cig lighter was more effective than trying to strip it physically.
[02:36:37] * SpallsHurgenson looks at the headset on amazon
[02:37:25] <SpallsHurgenson> how long is the cable?
[02:37:44] * Deucalion reaches for tape measure
[02:37:59] <SpallsHurgenson> generally, generally :)
[02:38:39] <BadCoderFinger> And somehow, we're back to THIS topic.
[02:38:50] <SpallsHurgenson> my jack is... erm... around 1 leg-length... so I'd need that much and a little more to be comfortable :)
[02:42:08] <Deucalion> 250cm cable, attached to left can (should you care about which side). Mic is detachable (just unplugs from headset with standard 2.5mm jack) and is flexi with what looks like a spongy breath defeater - not tried it out yet, so no idea how effective that is.

[03:30:21] <SpallsHurgenson> they're not lost; I know EXACTLY where they are :)
[03:34:58] <Deucalion> That's what they want you to think. Kitties are de ebils! You thought they were in the ceiling, they were out preying on wildlife, then snuck back into the ceiling space just in time to let you think you rescued them. You know it, they know it, it just how it is.
[03:36:19] <SpallsHurgenson> why would I RESCUE them after I put them up there in the first place?

[04:32:04] <Deucalion> takyon, in the UK now even being in possession of freshly picked psilocybin mushrooms is treated as transporting class A drugs. Back in my day, when I may or may not have experimented with such things, they were fine to possess as long as they were unprocessed (dried / made into tea etc.). They may or may not have made a good addition to cheesy omelettes, I wouldn't now. ~shrug~ I thought we kicked all the puritans over to the USA a while back
