[00:21:12] <SpallsHurgenson> and now a little bit faster...
[00:21:15] <BadCoderFinger> You can tell if they're pooplets by whether or not the earwigs are wearing pants.

[00:22:06] <Bender> Added quote 529
[00:24:15] * SpallsHurgenson sails the seas of the Skellige Isles, feeling a bit like Ged the archmage...
[00:24:32] <BadCoderFinger> Heh, I really didn't think that one was quoteworthy.
[00:24:41] <chromas> It will be
[00:25:21] <BadCoderFinger> I can't really imagine any other situation that might come up where that quote would be helpful or funny, but what the heck, it's your bot!

[00:47:47] <BadCoderFinger> Natch, I got an "OK" error clicking on the "Read More" link under the "How the Tech Behind Bitcoin Could Stop the Next Snowden" story.
[00:48:30] <SpallsHurgenson> cannot reproduce, suggest user error to blame :)
[00:49:24] <SpallsHurgenson> "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
[00:50:00] <BadCoderFinger> Heh.

[00:52:45] <BadCoderFinger> Holy crap, I hate html mail.
[00:53:10] <SpallsHurgenson> why? its a great way to filter out the crap :)
[00:54:58] <BadCoderFinger> I got an email saying that I've bought something, and it's a mass of crappily formatted html.
[00:55:33] <SpallsHurgenson> just click the link and type in your password; I'm sure its legitimate :)
[00:55:39] <BadCoderFinger> And I haven't bought anything from these clowns.

[01:41:16] <juggs> All these people pinging in and out reminds me I really need to complete that ZNC walkthrough wiki thing. Did I mention I hate wiki markup/down? I think I may once or twice. :/
[01:43:59] <SpallsHurgenson> assign that sort of stuff to bytram; that's what he's there for :)
[01:45:31] <juggs> Nooo - we need him flat out testing for bugs. The guy should market himself as ThoroughTesting Inc. :)

[02:01:38] <cmn32480> ooooo shiny!
[02:01:40] <juggs> Another buyout in telco land no doubt. Vicious market for that kind of thing.
[02:03:26] <cmn32480> yup... pretty soon it'll be jsut AT&T again... and they will be too big to fail
[02:09:09] -!- kurenaitsubasa has quit [Quit: Fill the sky with pretty pink comments! CHARGE I SAY!]
[02:09:23] <juggs> Nah, this stuff has been going for decades. The 90s saw a bunch of hopefuls spring up running dark fibre hither and yonder hoping to cash in on traffic booming to fill their fibres, they were a little too early to the party and ended up distress selling. Those networks have been sold wholesale and piecemeal ever since. Nacamar was one such example.
[02:12:53] <cmn32480> now google is buying up all that dark fiber and making a laughing stock of the rest of the providers
[02:18:02] <juggs> Oooh - networklayer.com would appear to be associated to IBM Corp going by their whois. When did IBM get interested in infrastructure rather than servers?
[02:21:01] <juggs> Network Layer is a good name to use, the omnipresent google just serves OSI model pages for that query term
[02:28:33] <SpallsHurgenson> damn google for promoting facts over corporations!
[02:31:36] <juggs> I just find it odd to find an rDNS on multiple hops point to an Admin contact at IBM. Did IBM buy out Level3 or Tiscali or something?
[02:32:52] <cmn32480> NOt level 3 AFAIK
[02:33:40] <juggs> Maybe they already had their own network and have started peering and advertising routes more cheaply on BGP. Inter-networking is a mystery.
[02:36:19] <SpallsHurgenson> if in doubt, blame Microsoft
[02:36:44] <AndyTheAbsurd> SpallsHurgenson: unless it's obviously a network problem, then blame Level 3.
[02:37:25] <SpallsHurgenson> if you know its a network problem, you aren't in doubt :)
[02:37:30] <cmn32480> except in this case - blame AT&T

[02:44:18] <SpallsHurgenson> it always amuses me that the US government is putting more effort into stopping the next "Snowden" then, say, the next Bergersen or Shriver. Says something about their priorities, eh? :)

[13:44:57] <janrinok> hi guys
[13:44:58] <ciri> hello janrinok
[13:57:12] <AndyTheAbsurd> hi janrinok
[13:57:14] <ciri> hi there AndyTheAbsurd
[13:57:29] <AndyTheAbsurd> hi ciri you absolute idiot.
[13:57:30] <janrinok> hi AndyTheAbsurd
[13:57:31] <ciri> speak of the devil janrinok
[14:00:38] <AndyTheAbsurd> So someone using the nick "Gravis" dropped a complaint here about the comment filter not being smart enough to remove words that are in the summary from the "banned words" list.
[14:01:12] <AndyTheAbsurd> ....do we have a bug for this already? And if we don't and I added one, would it get marked as WONTFIX?
[14:01:35] <janrinok> Yeah, I've noticed a few posts from him, but I haven't been taking too much attention to what he has been saying.
[14:02:12] <janrinok> But I haven't seen that one - what words does he say should be banned?
[14:02:49] <AndyTheAbsurd> he's not saying that anything SHOULD be banned. He's saying that if a word is banned, but appears in the summary, it should be un-banned for that article.
[14:03:09] <janrinok> well how the hell would the software know that?
[14:03:36] <janrinok> if it is in blockquotes maybe let it pass, but not if it is put in their by a rogue submitter
[14:03:49] <AndyTheAbsurd> Specifically, he was saying that he wanted to quote a section of the summary that had "Viagra" in it on the "Female Libido Pill" story.
[14:04:20] <AndyTheAbsurd> So...you're saying that it would get marked WONTFIX and I should waste my time entering it?
[14:05:12] <AndyTheAbsurd> s/should/shouldn't/
[14:05:12] <sedctl> <AndyTheAbsurd> So...you're saying that it would get marked WONTFIX and I shouldn't waste my time entering it?
[14:05:25] <AndyTheAbsurd> thanks sedctl.
[14:07:45] <janrinok> well, that raises several points. Presumably he has tried it? And it doesn't look like it should be banned but, as you know, it appears in SPAM all over the place. If we start playing with that filter all hell could be let loose. But that doesn't mean a bug report can't be submitted and let dev tell us the cost of implementing it.
[14:09:59] <janrinok> I've read the comment now - seems valid but I can also see the problems with letting it through.

[17:20:07] <mechincjay> I just saw the Hillary for President Logo
[17:20:18] <janrinok|afk> and ?
[17:20:33] janrinok|afk is now known as janrinok
[17:20:33] <mechincjay> Some one just equated it to "looking like an airplane crashing into the twin towers"
[17:20:40] <janrinok> rofl
[17:20:40] <ciri> lol damn!
[17:20:43] <mechincjay> ...that's all I can see when I look at it.
[17:21:01] <janrinok> that will probably not help her much...
[17:22:20] <CoolHand> link?
[17:22:23] <mechincjay> http://assets-s3.usmagazine.com
[17:22:30] <CoolHand> dang that was quick..
[17:22:31] <CoolHand> :)
[17:22:43] <mechincjay> lol
[17:22:43] <ciri> now that is funny
[17:22:43] <CoolHand> faster than google
[17:22:59] <janrinok> fair point
[17:23:01] <mechincjay> the link was incoming even before you asked
[17:23:10] <CoolHand> I figgered :)
[17:23:36] <CoolHand> well, it's a stretch, and I wouldn't have thought it before it was mentioned, but now that I know I can see it... they should probably change it..
[17:24:16] <mechincjay> The comment was originally referencing this piece of clothing:

[17:28:06] <mechincjay> As much as I'd like to opt out of the next election -- it'll be interesting to see what happens
[17:29:45] <AndyTheAbsurd> best-case scenario is that Bernie Sanders wins by a landslide.
[17:30:35] <AndyTheAbsurd> most likely is probably that we get Hillary Clinton as president and at least four more years of Republican obstructionism because the sitting president isn't a white male.
[17:30:40] <CoolHand> it is the most wide-open on both sides of the aisle that I can remember
[17:31:07] <mechincjay> I fear the most likely case
[17:31:36] <CoolHand> AndyTheAbsurd: I'd vote for Sanders..
[17:31:40] <AndyTheAbsurd> worst-case scenario is that some loony from the Republican side wins and we get an endless war in Iran to go with the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.
[17:31:50] <mechincjay> Bernie is the ray of hope, because the Republicans have no real contenders -- and haven't for some time.
[17:32:21] <CoolHand> repub, I'd have to vote for Paul.. not my ideal choice, but the best I see over there
[17:34:49] <mechincjay> after spending a number of years as a republican...just no, that organization needs to die and something else take it's place.
[17:36:30] <CoolHand> yeah. I'm pretty much like that too.. But both parties need to do that... I'm just saying if one of the Repub candidates were to get it, I'd probably go with him. (and might go with him over any Democrat not named Sanders)
[17:36:41] <mechincjay> fair enough
[17:37:10] <CoolHand> if neither of them win primaries (probably won't), I'll probably just vote Libertarian..
[17:37:15] <CoolHand> again
[17:37:17] <CoolHand> :)
[17:37:40] <mechincjay> I see we have much in common CoolHand :)
[17:37:54] <CoolHand> I think a lot of soylentils do.. hehe
[17:38:53] <mechincjay> My voting following 2 rules. Vote 3rd party if you can. If there is not 3rd party, vote against the incumbent.
[17:38:53] <CoolHand> we're all a bunch of rebel ne'er-do-wells, right?
[17:39:15] <CoolHand> good rules :)
[17:39:33] <mechincjay> I prefer to thing of us as smart folks trying to effect change
[17:39:44] <CoolHand> oh, ya... that's what I meant.. :)
[17:39:44] <mechincjay> but it all depends on you point of view (and position of power)
[17:40:02] <CoolHand> exact-a-mundo!
[17:41:40] <cmn32480> I hate people.
[17:42:26] <AndyTheAbsurd> Sartre was correct: Hell is other people.
[17:42:46] <cmn32480> yes. especially the ones that don't listen when you tell them stuff.
[17:43:08] <janrinok> what did you say - I wasn't listening....?
[17:43:52] <AndyTheAbsurd> Which variety? The ones that you tell to pay attention, then tell them something, which they totally ignore; or the ones that ask you a question, then don't listen to the response?
[17:45:15] <CoolHand> oh, I especially hate the 2nd category
[17:45:29] * AndyTheAbsurd finds them both annoying and isn't sure which is worse
[17:45:31] <CoolHand> my wife is good at that.. or rather, asking me how to do it, then getting mad when I tell her.. :)
[17:46:02] * CoolHand wonders if that can be scrubbed from the logs.. :)
[17:46:05] <AndyTheAbsurd> actually, I know what's worst: People that ask you how to do something, and then ignore the bit that you point out as "the important part".
[17:47:06] <CoolHand> yah
