[02:11:56] <SpallsHurgenson> aieeeeee!
[02:12:15] <SpallsHurgenson> (I think that is the appropriate response in this venue, correct?)
[02:13:36] * Konomi grabs the tupperware
[02:14:54] <chromas> Konomi is a saint
[02:15:18] <SpallsHurgenson> what, the saint of tupperware?
[02:15:30] <juggs> Konomi, I feel for you on the headphone cable soldering - that is one fiddly ass job - wtf the wires have to be ~quite~ that ridiculously thin is beyond me.
[02:15:48] <chromas> "saints preserve us"
[02:15:55] <chromas> tupperware also preserves
[02:16:01] <Konomi> my parts arrived today anyway so it will be boxed with connectors on it soon ;p
[02:16:16] <Konomi> soon as I gain enough motor control to drive to the post office
[02:17:47] <juggs> You constructing a headphone amp or some such?
[02:18:06] <Konomi> just an enclosure to house the inputs
[02:18:31] <Konomi> old headset but had it's own usb audio that doesn't have all the feed back and dc offset my laptops inbuilt card does
[02:19:19] <juggs> happy hacking :)
[02:19:43] <chromas> is the dc offset affected by the laptop being plugged in?
[02:20:51] <Konomi> yeah it has cross talk on the mic and speaker line too
[02:20:57] <Konomi> sounds like shit
[02:21:14] <Konomi> I was hoping laptips had a bit better audio than desktops doesn't seem to be the case
[02:21:30] <chromas> cheap--
[02:21:31] <Bender> karma - cheap: -1
[02:21:51] <Konomi> this laptop is a high end machine ;p
[02:22:01] <Konomi> 2k aud when i brought it ~
[02:22:27] <juggs> crikey
[02:22:27] <Konomi> it is however 6 years old now
[02:22:27] <chromas> you're not cheap; the manufacturer is
[02:22:46] <Konomi> I don't really know tbh
[02:22:57] <juggs> Is on board sound ever really good?
[02:22:59] <Konomi> there's so many possiblities to get noise when you have a million things plugged into it
[02:23:07] <Konomi> well
[02:23:10] <Konomi> the output is pretty decent
[02:23:14] <Konomi> the mic isnt though
[02:24:04] <juggs> hmm actually, I have a little intel atom board - sound out of that is good and clean
[02:24:38] <Konomi> well I have a web cam
[02:24:40] <Konomi> 5 hard drives
[02:24:44] <Konomi> external dvd drive
[02:24:53] <Konomi> wireless mouse ;p
[02:25:01] <Konomi> a netbook next to it
[02:26:29] <chromas> how's the netbook's sound?
[02:26:38] <Konomi> same awful
[02:26:51] <Konomi> makes me think there is some sort of emi around
[02:27:37] <chromas> maybe your ac power has a dc offset
[02:27:47] <Konomi> yeah could be anything
[02:27:52] <Konomi> that's hwy usb audio
[02:28:06] <Konomi> easier not to deal with it in the first place
[02:31:17] <juggs> my desktop on board sound suffers from annoying buzzy cross talk. slung an ancient soundblaster card in it - problem solved. I swear things used to be made better. Cost more mind :/
[02:31:39] <SpallsHurgenson> everything was better back in the day
[02:32:10] * juggs hands round the complimentary rose tinted eye wear
[02:32:25] <SpallsHurgenson> oooh, those go great with my garish hat!
[02:32:52] <juggs> such a cad!
[02:35:50] <SpallsHurgenson> if you hear interference on your speakers, it just means you haven't turned the volume up enough
[02:38:44] <juggs> I get confused between the interference and the tinnitus these days ~sigh~
[02:55:03] <SpallsHurgenson> that just means it's not loud enough yet
[02:55:28] <juggs> the tinnitus has no volume control :/

[03:14:15] <chromas> poor netflix
[03:16:55] <SpallsHurgenson> I blame Microsoft, as usual
[03:24:30] <juggs> "Ajit Pai: Netflix denied accusations from ISPs but won't prove its innocence. " - not read TFA yet, but the byline makes me baulk. How does one prove innocence in anything?

[03:28:09] <juggs> Eh, it's just the long running stand off between content providers and network providers. **YAWN**

[03:35:01] <juggs> Netflix to Telco(s) - "Here have one or more of our caching devices to put in your network so you're not hammering your 3rd party interconnects" Telco(s) to Netflix "No. Pay us for all the capacity you streaming is inflicting on our 3rd party interconnects". The whole discussion is fucking stupid from a network engineering viewpoint. It's just about gouging money.
[03:35:24] <swiss> does alcohol become more or less effective with altitude?
[03:36:15] <SpallsHurgenson> it's not the altitude, it's the air pressure :)
[03:37:05] <swiss> balls
[03:37:15] <swiss> pretty sure the plane i'm in has normal air pressure
[03:37:21] <swiss> cause i'm 17600 pairs of shoes hihg
[03:38:11] <SpallsHurgenson> planes are pressurized, but not to sea-level pressure.
[03:38:29] <swiss> hmm
[03:38:33] <swiss> ARE THEY RUINING MY BUZZ
[03:38:37] <SpallsHurgenson> I think it's about 80% normal... and yes, less air pressure makes booze more effective :)
[03:38:50] <swiss> oh, okay, as long as they aren't wreckin my buzz
[03:38:59] <swiss> cause that'd be turbo shitty
[03:51:22] <juggs> Yep, they are pressurised to ~8000ft equivalent. If you were flying at 40K ft without pressurisation, you wouldn't be worrying about your booze ;)
[03:52:04] <SpallsHurgenson> the internet says that the way the body processes alcohol doesn't change, but lowered oxygen content = mild hypoxia = mild intoxication, and the dry air in planes = easier dehydration and likelihood of drinking more booze :)
[03:53:35] <swiss> hmm
[03:55:26] <juggs> Long haul goes one of two ways for me. Either I crash out for the entire flight, or I get antsy legs and ~have~ to walk around. Best flight I ever took was LAX to LHR - asleep before take off, woke up on landing with a rather attractive female asleep on my shoulder - she'd also crashed the whole way it turned out. Dunno what they put in the air supply, but it worked.
[03:55:55] <SpallsHurgenson> did you get to keep her? :)
[03:56:17] <swiss> juggs: a careful shifting of your body and you might have gotten her in your lap
[03:56:29] <swiss> i am seattle to LAX right now
[03:57:42] <juggs> SpallsHurgenson, yes - she is plastered into my wall now *rollseyes*. No - we just laughed that we had both slept the whole way and went our separate ways.
[03:58:24] <chromas> juggs-on-juggs
[03:58:33] <juggs> swiss, why would I want a sleeping lady's head in my lap? That's a bit disturbing.
[03:59:51] <juggs> swiss, are you the 2010's equivalent of 90s guy with a new mobile shouting "I'm on the train" except now it is "I'm on the plane" ?
[04:00:10] <arti> i think we'd need to be on twitter

[04:03:21] <swiss> juggs: time based, not data based
[04:09:02] <juggs> hmm - NAT traversal could be sticky
[04:09:24] <swiss> yeah, they fixed some of the glitches i found last time
[04:09:43] <swiss> like they left DNS open, so you could do whatever the fuck you wanted, as long as the receiver was UDP/53
[04:12:38] <juggs> Can you vpn out?
[04:19:49] <swiss> probs
[04:19:59] <swiss> but i think they gave me a /32
[04:20:12] <swiss> correction, it IS a /24
[04:20:18] <swiss> so you could prob do it
[04:27:06] <juggs> /32 /24 - not sure the relevance if you are connecting out to a pre-flight configured vpn server. Not sure you'd want to mind. Are you on air force 1 ? They probably have better comms links than commercial air.
