[19:03:50] <Fnord666> Do we have an agenda for this week's meeting?
[19:04:01] <notkolie> I was just going to ask did a meta go out.
[19:04:02] -!- mode/#governance [+o audioguy] by Fnord666
[19:04:38] <notkolie> I wanted to elaborate more on some discussion that came up with governance
[19:05:48] <notkolie> there was a point that came up that the staff basically self elects, vs we have a pool of community picking it
[19:06:14] <notkolie> For lack of a better term that was the "board" being discussed by uhh separatrix
[19:07:09] <notkolie> so the checks and balances, vs staff self managing and selecting. I think one definitely reflects the desire of the community more.
[19:08:05] <notkolie> I liked the ideas that separatrix has but it modifies what has been historically
[19:48:05] -!- progo has quit [Quit: Ping timeout (120 seconds)]
[19:48:20] -!- progo [progo!~progo@2600:4041:42a6:nwsh:rjhn:ximq:ytip:prvq] has joined #governance
[19:57:51] <Deucalion> Historically staff has been basically whoever willingly volunteers for a role and has thus far not shown themselves to be an absolute asshole
[20:08:27] <notkolie> yea thats fine
[20:08:41] <notkolie> that works in either scenario
[20:13:10] <Deucalion> I don't recall anyone ever having been removed from staff for revealing they are actually an asshole having become a part of staff. Going forward - how to appoint staff officially maybe worth exploring in order to formalise it if desired.
[20:15:11] -!- dx3bydt3 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[20:15:13] <notkolie> yea how sep is looking at it like the system now is the staff are responsible to.. staff. the way he proposed basically makes staff responsible to community more or less.
[20:15:50] <Deucalion> Before the meeting commences. I apologise that I have been afk since the last meeting - my actual hands on 7 days a week work does that to me :P
[20:20:20] <Deucalion> Is the Board Membership still audioguy, Bytram, cmn32480, Deucalion, Fnord666, janrinok, (not)kolie, mechanicjay ? Or did any of fliptop, hubie, requerdanos join the Board since I last managed to concentrate?
[20:20:36] <notkolie> requerdanos, is on.
[20:20:48] <notkolie> hes away for some time
[20:20:56] <notkolie> but he is always on the gov com
[20:21:33] <Deucalion> hubie or fliptop?
[20:22:58] <notkolie> never accepted.
[20:25:29] <Deucalion> OK. Just trying to keep my ducks in order
[20:25:43] <notkolie> We scheduled this for a thursday?
[20:27:15] <Deucalion> FFS! Ignore me! Virtual Friday here for me
[20:30:16] <Deucalion> Just going to leave this here. The Board comprises: audioguy, Bytram, cmn32480, Deucalion, Fnord666, janrinok, (not)kolie, mechanicjay, requerandos
[20:31:28] * Bytram raises his hand. Present!
[20:32:30] <cmn32480> way to f with me deucalion...
[20:32:53] <notkolie> To qualify for 501(c)(3) status, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the following purposes:
[20:32:53] <notkolie> Charitable: Relieving the poor, distressed, or underprivileged, advancing education, or fostering religion.
[20:32:53] <notkolie> Educational: Providing educational instruction or resources.
[20:32:53] <notkolie> Scientific: Conducting scientific research or promoting scientific knowledge.
[20:32:54] <notkolie> Religious: Engaging in religious worship, teaching, or promoting spiritual growth.
[20:32:56] <notkolie> Literary or Educational: Promoting literature, art, or educational endeavors.
[20:32:58] <notkolie> Preventing Cruelty to Children or Animals: Focusing on child or animal welfare.
[20:33:00] <notkolie> A news aggregation website might have a stronger case for 501(c)(3) status if it can demonstrate a clear educational purpose, such as providing unbiased and well-researched information to the public, promoting civic engagement, or fostering critical thinking and media literacy. However, simply aggregating news articles without a clear educational or charitable focus would likely not meet the criteria.
[20:33:32] <notkolie> I'm going to go with critical thinking and civic engagement.
[20:55:01] <Deucalion> Bytram, 20:30 UTC tomorrow just in case I got you going - I misfired!
[20:55:40] <Deucalion> sorry cmn32480, my bad
