[01:03:30] <systemd> ^ 03Frontier Sued for Allegedly Misleading Customers on Internet Speeds: SoylentNews Submission
[01:04:09] <Booga1> I had Frontier, but I got what I paid for. They weren't great, but they weren't terrible.
[01:05:37] <Booga1> Of course, I've got much worse for service now, but it's the only option. :P

[01:17:02] <Bytram> the US actually *used* to watch out for the 'little guy'
[01:18:27] <Booga1> The US used to BE the little guy. Then they got big and adopted the same behavior they used to complain about.
[01:20:03] <Booga1> It was a fast process and they transitioned quickly from victim to aggressor.

[01:23:19] <Booga1> Not in line with the internet or electricity, but I am curious about the site's appetite for stories about Tesla: https://soylentnews.org
[01:23:21] <systemd> ^ 03Tesla on 'Autopilot' Crashes into Deputy's evhicle in Washington State: SoylentNews Submission
[01:24:02] <Booga1> Nobody died or anything, but if Tesla "autopilot" crashes are boring, I can stop submitting them.
[01:26:23] <Bytram> In general, quite limited. Some editors already had discussions about it...and thought "do we *really* want to run a story every time a Tesla [Ford|VW|GM] crashes?" In that light, the answer was "no"
[01:28:11] <Bytram> https://gizmodo.com
[01:28:12] <systemd> ^ 03Interstellar Comet Borisov Was Leaking Metal When It Zipped Past Us in 2020
[01:29:12] <Booga1> Understandable. I thought this one was interesting because it involved a cop car that was likely flashing lights and stuff. Yet, the "driver" sat there and watched while he crashed into it. The brazen "I thought the car would stop" excuse seemed to be an obvious new level of stupid that might draw some comments.
[01:31:11] <Bytram> what part of "YOU are responsible for the safe operation of YOU motor vehicle" did hey not understand
[01:31:22] <Bytram> s/hey/they/
[01:31:22] <SedBot> <Bytram> what part of "YOU are responsible for the safe operation of YOU motor vehicle" did they not understand
[01:31:50] <Bytram> what part of "YOU are responsible for the safe operation of YOUR motor vehicle" did they not understand
[01:31:57] * Bytram yawns
[01:33:49] <Booga1> I think that's part of the story. They were told that. They trusted the car anyway. They are probably not alone. It doesn't matter what they are told. What matters is what they do. Companies telling people to do something they won't do does not mean the company is absolved of all responsibility.
[01:36:24] <Booga1> I mean, the Tesla couldn't avoid a cop car with flashing lights. That's not an obscure corner case. That's driver responsibility 101. Yet, the driver trusted the car anyway while it crashed.
[01:37:16] <Bytram> backwards, I think. AIUI, the car walk-through when they take onership of the car clearly instructs it is NOT capable of driving completely autonomously AND esach time they start the car, there's a simiar aution, as wel..
[01:38:19] <Booga1> Instructions don't matter. Behavior matters. You can tell people to not touch fire because it is hot, but people will touch it anyway...just to be sure.
[01:38:23] <Bytram> hey, I am appreciating the chat, but I am very tire right now and need to head to bed avout 30 mnutes ago.
[01:39:02] <Booga1> Sleep well.
[01:39:13] * Bytram woke up 3 separate times last night with leg cramps. :(
[01:39:37] <Bytram> appreciate your undrstanding
[01:39:50] <Booga1> Ick. Not been my problem, but sleep disruptions suck.
[01:40:40] <Bytram> you got *that* right!
[01:40:53] <Bytram> really gtg. laters!
[01:44:37] <Booga1> OK, so car crashes happen hundreds of thousands of times a year. Tesla autopilot crashes are rare, but they have unique circumstances that are related to tech.
[01:45:15] <Booga1> Are we done with Tesla crashes?
[01:56:38] * Booga1 replays Yasunori Masuda's "Wind Scene."
