[03:15:51] <Fnord666> At one point I was chatting with chromas about having his bot create an entry on archive.org during the submission process

[14:16:51] <Bytram> Seems a bit too hand-wavy to me. "Anything with a false premise necessarily has a true concusion."
[14:17:11] <Bytram> "As long as U.S. fiscal institutions are strong and effective, and the long-run productive capacity of the nation's economy is secure, there is no economic reason to worry the government can't afford a large stimulus package. "
[14:20:54] <Bytram> To my eye, those are pretty big "if"s. People self-quarantining, not going out to restaurants, not flying, not going to conventions, not going to resorts (e.g. Disney [world|land|etc., Las Vegas casinos/resorts, and many others), skipping cruise ships, sports canceled, etc. etc. that is a huge drag on the financial stability of companies and many will not weather the downturn: bankruptcies galore.
[14:22:33] <Bytram> As a percent of GDP, historically the national debt has remained very roughly stable, but when the economy goes way off the rails, suddenly GDP is not what is used to be, and that makes debt/GDP much larger.
[14:24:14] <Bytram> Further, other countries perspective on the USA has taken a nosedive lately due to the actions of the current POTUS who has unilaterally broken trade agreements and treaties. Why believe any promises made now when they, too, could be just as susceptible to revocation without notice.
