[00:00:26] * chromas impinges on Bytram's breaktime >:)
[00:00:34] <Bytram> chromas: pm
[00:16:29] <Bytram> ~eds In light of the US celebrating Labor Day Weekend with Monday being an official holiday, I would suggest we maintain weekend story spacing for Sat. / Sun. / and Mon. On the order of ~2h21m separation.

[00:19:40] <chromas> I think the ~eds command doesn't need to repeat the message, since it's right above the bot output
[00:20:00] <chromas> Plus it risks truncating the nicks if the message is too long
[00:20:31] <chromas> Also, thanks for the kudo :)
[00:20:59] <Bytram> coo dough... what you get from an overflying pigeon?
[00:21:45] <Bytram> If you were to, say, make an =eds command, I would suggest some changes to the list of nicks

[00:22:41] <chromas> I dunno about pigeons, but I did have a crow poop on me once
[00:22:48] <Bytram> you can get rid of "bytram|away", too.
[00:22:56] <chromas> on purpose
[00:23:02] <Bytram> ewww
[00:23:12] <Bytram> better a crow than a cow
[00:23:23] <chromas> well I can just have it iterate the nick list for people with + in #editorial

[00:23:49] <chromas> No reason to ping people who aren't in the channel, plus I don't have to update a list
[00:24:24] <Bytram> afaicr, mrpg never set up a bouncer
[00:24:38] <chromas> Well if he's not here then he won't see the ping
[00:24:49] <chromas> and the Loggie logs won't highlight for him :D
[00:24:49] <Bytram> he's still getting situated in a new place, last I heard.
[00:25:04] <chromas> Hope he's doing well
[00:25:53] <Bytram> not highlight, no, but he is still part of the team, and he may choose to do a search on the logs for his nick
[00:25:56] <Bytram> same here
[00:26:16] <Bytram> heard he had a job, but was... interim... and he was looking for something better.
[00:26:40] <Bytram> #weather santiago chile
[00:26:42] <MrPlow> Plaza de Armas, Pl de Armas, 832 0046 Santiago, Chile - Today: "Mostly cloudy throughout the day." 68/45F, Humidity: 60%, Precip: 9%, Wind ~6mph. Sat: "Mostly cloudy throughout the day." 71/46F, Humidity: 53%, Precip: 3%, Wind ~2mph. Sun: "Mostly cloudy throughout the day." 73/46F, Humidity: 45%, Precip: 6%, Wind ~2mph.
[00:27:09] <Bytram> winter is starting to pass down there.
[00:28:32] <Bytram> break time / afk
[02:20:19] <Fnord666> agreed on the spacing
[02:43:16] <Bytram> ugh.
[02:43:31] <Bytram> just after I shut down my pc I realized I had forgot about w/e spacing
[02:43:35] <Bytram> should be fixed, now
[02:44:31] * Bytram had put out 5 stories on sat and all had weekday story spacing :/
[02:45:21] <Bytram> thankfully, I have a batch program that given an offset into the story list, gets the release date/time of that story and then adds an offset to it...
[02:46:06] <Bytram> so I only needed to load up the stories needing rescheduling, each in its own tab, calc the new release date/time for each one, plug it in and resave.
[02:46:13] <Bytram> automation++
[02:46:13] <Bender> karma - automation: 4
[02:47:11] <Bytram> and, with that out of the way, I am finally getting me to bed.
[02:47:18] <Bytram> Have a great night everyone!
[02:50:32] <Fnord666> and you haven't shared this amazing tool with your fellow editors?
[02:50:38] <Fnord666> good night bytram

[03:24:26] <AzumaHazuki> Okay guys, anyone with admin chops might want to stop in and look at the "youtube restores far-right channels" topic. it's really getting frothy in there
[03:25:22] <AzumaHazuki> any of you with editorial and/or admin discretion are going to have to make some existential choices about how this site is run and what it allows pretty soon
[03:25:47] <AzumaHazuki> because, goddamn, it's starting to look like the incest babies of /pol/ and stormfront in there
[03:36:42] * AzumaHazuki sighs, and pokes, in no particular order: Bytram, janrinok, and chromas.
[04:57:42] <AzumaHazuki> all right, just going to assume you lot are either asleep or hopefully looking over what's going on...

[11:26:52] <Bytram> Fnord666: It is an 'amazing tool', but it is built on an abstraction of the SN apis... which, in turn, are coded for my home system and use unix-like utilities (sed, awk, wget, curl, etc.) that I have found at various places across the web, as well as a slew of home-built batch programs that also have dependencies.
[11:27:51] <Bytram> IOW, though the the code for this particular task is *relatively* clean, the layers of abstractions below it are many and obscure.
[11:28:04] <Bytram> Sorry!
[11:32:58] <Bytram> That said, knowing what I know now, I have a rough idea how it could be implemented in the site, but there is the issue of UI interaction, where the control should be located, and how *that* should flow. Oh! And dealing with the potential for race conditions if multiple people are at work.
[11:33:30] <Bytram> So, it's been simmering in the back of my mind trying to sort this out, but I have not, as yet, come to a satisfying solution.
[11:50:29] <janrinok> Hi guys - You might want to read my latest comment: https://soylentnews.org

[11:50:46] <janrinok> It's my own personal view, I am not speaking for the staff as a whole.
[11:52:42] <janrinok> Bytram, ~gday

[12:05:19] <Bytram> ~gday janrinok
[12:05:21] * exec seriously kipes a mug of exceptions from janrinok
[12:07:21] * Bytram just started reading the story... only about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through the first page, and -- though there is some vitriol -- it *seems* to be less than I actually feared. Seems some people actually are taking to heart some of the points raised in the WTF/TROLL story.
[12:09:56] <Bytram> Unfortunately, I have already used up all of my mod points or I'd give you an upmod for the comment you linked to. There's always tomorrow, or, hopefully, someone(s) else will come along to do so!
[12:12:29] <janrinok> np, I just wish the people that are all talk would actually step up to the mark and do what they claim they always do.
[12:13:13] <Bytram> "By their actions they shall be known."
[12:15:09] <Bytram> Honesty and forthrightness as well as duplicity and rhetoric all have their own... "smell". By bringing long-held but possibly poorly-examined viewpoints into discussion, well, it has been my experience that people tend to struggle with challenges and change.

[12:16:03] <janrinok> anyway, how are you. Fully recovered yet from you long period of work?
[12:16:25] <janrinok> *from your
[12:16:27] <Bytram> To go from one strongly-held viewpoint to another viewpoint, based on my experience, tends to go through those stages, too.
[12:17:20] <Bytram> Was *so* tired last night, I *think* I may have woken up once to hit the can but don't really remember for sure! So, first good night's sleep in a long while.
[12:17:27] <janrinok> yup. What surprise me is that people seem to think it is a discussion about the WN and alt-right whereas I see it as Freedom of Speech issue
[12:17:59] <Bytram> Clear skies, sunshine, a highish barometer that is still rising -- bodes well for a good day!
[12:18:02] <janrinok> good, I don't want to jinx anything, but when do you go back to work? today?
[12:18:17] <Bytram> I need to be at work in 45 minutes
[12:18:27] <janrinok> lol - and so it begins....
[12:18:35] <Bytram> so, I should prolly think about taking my shower, eh? =)
[12:18:49] <janrinok> we will have to find some time to work on that other matter
[12:19:17] <Bytram> Thanks for stepping into the discussion and bringing your balanced presentation skills and perspective to bear!
[12:19:40] <janrinok> it's what we do
[12:20:12] <Bytram> Bah! And the story queue is just about to run dry. Nothing I can do about it atm.
[12:20:22] <janrinok> I'll try and post some
[12:20:50] <Bytram> Oh, I did sub a story; do give it a close read as it started looking like "word soup" when I was done with it, but should be pretty close to publication-ready.
[12:21:18] <janrinok> ;) go for your shower before people complain about your state of dress and the smell....
[12:21:58] <Bytram> oh, and I don't know if you saw it, but this being the Labor Day Weekend (sat, sun, AND mon) in the US, I have suggested we maintain "weekend story spacing" through Monday.
[12:22:04] <Bytram> ok, really gtg!
[12:22:12] <janrinok> all your stories are seconded - which one do you have concerns over?
[12:22:24] <Bytram> give my best and a sloppy kiss to S, for me!!
[12:22:28] <janrinok> will do
[12:22:47] <Bytram> new story in the subs queue that you should be able to push out, but with the mentioned caveats.
