[01:17:58] <janrinok> I'm here!
[01:18:06] <Bytram> ahoy!
[01:18:21] <janrinok> Just gone 3 in the morning and I cannot sleep
[01:18:31] <Bytram> so sorry to hear that.
[01:18:37] <janrinok> Did you get my DM?
[01:18:51] <Bytram> yes. many tx!
[01:18:52] <janrinok> How's things with you?
[01:20:30] * Bytram is barely staying awake... wishes he could ship a bit of sleepy-juice-extract you're weigh.
[01:21:35] <Bytram> have the rest of today and tomorrow off. Looking fwd to catching up in his sleep.
[01:22:28] <janrinok> lol, we have guests at the moment so I'm busy in the house. The inability to sleep is not a good thing. I'm trying to help out with stories but sorry if things are a bit busy for you
[01:23:24] <Bytram> Yes, I've seen your handwork in several places -- can't thank you enough!
[01:23:34] <Bytram> hardcoded--
[01:23:34] <Bender> karma - hardcoded: -1
[01:23:35] <janrinok> I tend to do jobs on the site that I can do on my 'phone as that way I can be more responsive to S.
[01:23:59] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:24:13] * Bytram posted two stories using his phone while on a work break.
[01:24:50] <janrinok> I don't find using a phone a pleasant experience - I prefer to edit on the desktops
[01:25:10] <Bytram> it is not ideal, but I've prolly posted well over 100 stories from my cell phone.
[01:25:36] <Bytram> 100%++ agree
[01:25:43] <janrinok> Aagh - I bow to your perseverance
[01:25:52] <Bytram> can it be done? Yes.
[01:26:00] <Bytram> Is it fun to do? Nope.
[01:26:32] <janrinok> exactly - my blunt fingers and fading eyes need my desktops
[01:26:32] <Bytram> Have you actually done it? Yes... at least a hundred times.
[01:27:16] <Bytram> iow, I've done ~700 times as many stories using my desktop as using my phone.
[01:28:08] <Bytram> break time... biab
[01:28:21] <janrinok> I was reading in the logs bout the stew you made the other day - decided to do the same thing here. Huge success but only covered 1.5 meals.... Hungry guests

[02:06:09] <Bytram> ~tell janrinok Seee, the trick is to make the stew taste good, but not *that* good... then you can get several meals out of it. ;) J/k!! I expect I'll get ~10 meals out my 3 gallons (~12 liters) of stew.
[02:07:39] <Bytram> whereto? http://feedproxy.google.com

[12:14:04] <janrinok> Hi Bytram "Q!
[12:14:24] <Bytram> bon zure!
[12:14:32] <janrinok> ola!
[12:14:44] <Bytram> Oh? Laaaah!
[12:14:52] <janrinok> or bon azure for a bit more colour
[12:15:05] <Bytram> hope you were able to rest up after last night's interlude
[12:15:09] <Bytram> wee!
[12:16:04] <janrinok> Nope, but our guest have just left in the last few minutes. I have 20 minutes or so before the home help arrives - she doesn't need me to do anything but I'd get no sleep while she is cleaning
[12:16:04] <Bytram> I usually wake up a couple times each night; was helpful to learn about "split sleep" or "biphasic" sleeping (I think that's the word)
[12:16:27] <Bytram> guests are nice, but come at a price.
[12:16:33] <Bytram> ^^ poet in training
[12:16:34] <janrinok> I usually have a siesta too each afternoon, but the guest scuppered that one today
[12:16:42] <Bytram> urgh.
[12:16:44] <Bytram> naps++
[12:16:44] <Bender> karma - naps: 6
[12:17:24] <janrinok> Had loads of success cooking over the last week or so. Lots of compliments so that is always nice
[12:17:31] <Bytram> =)
[12:17:39] <janrinok> are u catc
[12:17:42] <Bytram> anyone ask for the recipe(s)?
[12:17:53] <Bytram> no comprende?
[12:17:56] <janrinok> are u catching up on your sleep - yes, recipes asked for and supplied
[12:18:18] <Bytram> in my NSHO, *that* is the sign of excellent cooking!
[12:18:26] <janrinok> fingers not going where I want them to....
[12:18:41] <Bytram> did okay last night; will prolly catch a nap this pm.
[12:18:43] <Bytram> ditto
[12:19:32] <janrinok> I'll have to wait until tonight now. Any comments on how I've published the JOTech/Orme stories?
[12:19:44] <Bytram> had not noticed
[12:19:50] <janrinok> lol
[12:19:52] <Bytram> just woke up about an hour ago.
[12:20:28] <janrinok> 2 out over the last day or so. I've used alternative sources and put an Ed's Comment pointing out the potential for bias.
[12:20:34] <Bytram> noticed we exceeded our fundraising goal, so am cranking out some code to autogen those numbers for the "site_news" page.
[12:20:43] <Bytram> kudos!
[12:20:46] <Bytram> janrinok++
[12:20:46] <Bender> karma - janrinok: 58
[12:21:00] <janrinok> We are still 0.14cents down....
[12:21:11] <janrinok> sorry, 1.14 cents down
[12:21:28] <Bytram> not any more... is why I am coding up a storm atm, so I can get the numbers out there
[12:21:31] <janrinok> I think you need to issue more begging posts.....
[12:21:37] <Bytram> we are something like $100 over base goal
[12:21:44] <Bytram> =) =) =) =)
[12:21:47] <janrinok> party, hookers and blow!
[12:22:10] <Bytram> don't do that any more, never tried that, never tried that.
[12:22:33] <janrinok> neither have I, but I never could afford it until now
[12:22:52] * janrinok hopes $100 will cover it ....
[12:23:22] <Bytram> I've seen far too many lives wasted because of alcohol or drugs; easy to get caught; VERY NOT EASY to get free.
[12:24:01] <janrinok> understood - but if I don't try it soon I might be too late :D
[12:24:06] <Bytram> fortunately, have see many successes, but nowhere near as many as those who cannot break free. the misery is almost unbearable to watch.
[12:24:44] <Bytram> forewarned is forearmed, and with four arms we could type so much faster... amirite?
[12:24:45] <janrinok> can we switch to the other channel pse?

[17:14:03] <janrinok> Yup, it's the same for me
[17:18:28] <janrinok> working again now - who did that?

[17:18:44] * exec points at Bytram
[17:18:49] <janrinok> fair enough
[17:19:23] <cmn32480> prolly exec...
[17:19:28] <cmn32480> he's a POS lately
[17:19:34] <janrinok> hi cmn32480 - long time no see!
[17:30:18] <cmn32480> [janrinok!
[17:30:21] <cmn32480> how are you sir!
[17:31:00] <cmn32480> janrinok - sorry i missed the message I had the volume turned down
[17:31:43] <janrinok> CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
[17:31:50] <cmn32480> WHAT???!??!?!?!
[17:32:00] <janrinok> too loud, man, too loud
[17:32:12] <janrinok> how's things?
[17:32:14] * cmn32480 turns it down to 11
[17:32:18] <cmn32480> been busy
[17:32:30] <cmn32480> work and all that rot
[17:32:30] <janrinok> guessed you might have been
[17:32:56] <janrinok> hows J and the kids + big black dog
[17:33:18] <cmn32480> they is all good
[17:33:33] <janrinok> great to hear
[17:33:35] <cmn32480> and there is now a big brown dog too
[17:33:47] <janrinok> wasn't one big dog enough?
[17:34:03] <cmn32480> apparently not
[17:34:06] <cmn32480> :-)
[17:35:38] <janrinok> still doing the same job? Have you got an assistant yet?
[17:37:35] * janrinok supposes cmn is rolling around the floor laughing...
[17:38:54] <cmn32480> no real assistant... but yeah.. same job
[17:39:18] <janrinok> so you have an unreal assistant?
[17:39:27] <janrinok> spooky!
[17:48:11] <cmn32480> how have you been?
[17:48:48] <janrinok> getting older, lot more to do at this end, but otherwise I'm still kicking (or at least twitching)
[17:49:42] <cmn32480> and S?
[17:50:21] <janrinok> she's doing OK, but slowly deteriorating. Doesn't let it get her down too much though
[17:50:55] <cmn32480> give her a hug for me
[17:51:00] <janrinok> will do!
[17:51:06] <cmn32480> And my apologies for nto having been around much
[17:51:31] <janrinok> nothing you could do about it...
[17:51:44] <cmn32480> i know... but I miss her happy smiling face
[17:51:56] <cmn32480> your ugly mug... well.. that's a different ballgame alltogether
[17:51:57] <janrinok> I've been very low profile myself over the last 6 months or so
[17:52:05] <cmn32480> understandable
[17:52:18] <cmn32480> I hope everythign has been ok.
[17:52:47] <janrinok> we've had some good and some bad, but there is nothing we can do about it so we just crack on
[17:53:06] <cmn32480> slice of pizza will help that
[17:53:17] <cmn32480> and a good dark chocolate
[17:53:35] <cmn32480> and my deepest apologies for not getting to you when I was in Normandy in April
[17:53:38] <janrinok> I prefer milk chocolate
[17:53:50] <cmn32480> I'm botter by default :-)
[17:53:54] <cmn32480> *bitter
[17:54:25] <janrinok> I wasn't expecting you to make it to here. But I was prepared to get to you if it was possible. As eventually I didn't know the precise dates I had to reluctantly let it pass
[17:54:43] <cmn32480> it was a VERY crazy 5 days
[17:54:54] <cmn32480> i had about zero downtime
[17:55:00] <janrinok> no point in coming all this way if it wasn't :D
[17:55:04] <cmn32480> and that was all at night
[17:55:29] <cmn32480> but the pastries were to die for
[17:55:44] <janrinok> yup, they're famous for them
[17:56:02] <cmn32480> we made the week for this little baker in Port Au Bessain
[17:56:13] <cmn32480> boght her out of almond pastries near every day
[17:56:20] <janrinok> How many in your group?
[17:56:39] <cmn32480> 20
[17:56:59] <janrinok> she will have been happy with that!
[17:57:05] <cmn32480> then we bought out the chocolate filled ones
[17:57:16] <cmn32480> yeah
[17:57:25] <cmn32480> crazy people in Boy Scout uniforms
[17:57:38] <janrinok> so were you 'walking excess baggage' on the way home?
[17:58:10] <cmn32480> there may have been some extra 'round my middle
[17:58:26] <janrinok> but J tactfully did not notice
[17:58:38] <cmn32480> no... she tactfully noticed
[17:58:43] <cmn32480> and not so tactfully told me about it
[17:58:44] <janrinok> lol
[17:59:39] <janrinok> S is going to be in hospital from early June to mid July
[17:59:50] <cmn32480> break for you?
[18:00:04] <cmn32480> or jsut a different kind of work involved.
[18:01:02] <janrinok> For a week or two maybe, but we are also having major changes to the house done so that she can cope better with her daily routine. The hospital is about 1hr15 away so that will be a fair bit of travelling to visit her.
[18:01:19] <cmn32480> gotcha
[18:01:29] <cmn32480> widening of doorways and such I imagine
[18:02:18] <janrinok> That sort of thing, plus improvements outside so that she can be moved around the garden more easily.
[18:02:27] <cmn32480> oh yes
[18:02:38] <cmn32480> we have to make sure she can see your crop of weeds
[18:03:33] <janrinok> my crop of weeds is doing exceptionally well this year. I had septicaemia last year and that took me out for about 6 weeks. Still haven't recovered the garden since then really
[18:03:34] <cmn32480> as good a crop of things you don't want growing as last year/
[18:04:12] * cmn32480 notes that janrinok is trying to give his weeds a run for their money and must redouble his efforts to not fight them
[18:04:59] <janrinok> went into hospital for a minor 2 day op, and ended up staying several weeks. Then another period at home on antibiotics with a strict no doing anything physical for another 3 weeks
[18:05:27] <janrinok> You know me, any excuse to let the weeds grow and I was sold
[18:05:45] <cmn32480> i think you could have found a reason that did not involve a hospital stay!]
[18:06:05] <cmn32480> stay out of the hospitals... thy're FULL of sick people!
[18:06:44] <janrinok> Ah, I had no choice on that one. - and I was one of them. Must have caught the septicaemia in hospital.
[18:07:43] <janrinok> Best place to get it I suppose. Had I been at home I might have delayed treatment until it was really seriouis
[18:07:48] <janrinok> *serious
[18:08:06] <cmn32480> i suppose...
[18:08:18] <cmn32480> better to avoid it altogether if you ask me
[18:08:19] * janrinok notes that as soon as I start talking to cmn I begin typing like him too
[18:08:32] <cmn32480> typoing is contagious... didn't you know?
[18:08:44] <janrinok> I do now
[18:09:14] <cmn32480> but typoing doens't require a hospital stay..
[18:09:26] <cmn32480> and the laughter it causes is good medicine
[18:10:36] <janrinok> when I start typoing like you I will demand a hospital stay!
[18:11:03] <cmn32480> just make sure they have wifi so I can continue reinfecting you
[18:11:45] <janrinok> I haven't got a lappy, and I don't think I can balance my desktop on my knee
[18:12:15] <cmn32480> what do you have when you sit down?
[18:12:26] <cmn32480> I mean.. we always called that a lap...
[18:12:30] <janrinok> a backside
[18:12:36] * cmn32480 notes how weird the brits are
[18:12:48] * janrinok notes how weird the yanks are
[18:12:56] * cmn32480 notes how correct janrinok is
[18:13:10] <cmn32480> but I will say the Scots were a fabulously nice bunch
[18:13:24] <janrinok> which Scots?
[18:14:42] <cmn32480> the ones we saw in Scotland
[18:14:59] <cmn32480> but in their defense, I think they were all drunk
[18:15:03] <janrinok> handy place to see them, but I thought you came to France...
[18:15:21] <janrinok> of course they were drunk, they were Scots you mad fool
[18:16:11] <cmn32480> After Normandy, I picked J up at the airport we spent 2 days in Paris (no we did NOT cause the Notre Dame fire) then trained to Edinborough
[18:16:40] <cmn32480> but we were supposed to go to Notre Dame the next day
[18:16:48] <janrinok> I lived in Scotland for 7 years of so.
[18:16:55] <janrinok> or so*
[18:17:20] <cmn32480> we had exactly 1 day of rain while we were ther... adn those bastards lied to us and told su it wasn't typical weather
[18:17:31] <janrinok> I didn't set fire to any cathedrals there either
[18:17:52] <cmn32480> most of our friends have asked how we escaped the arsoin charges
[18:17:59] <janrinok> If you were only there 1 day that would have been typical weather
[18:18:35] <cmn32480> lol
[18:19:04] <janrinok> Your secret is safe with me - I didn't give your name to your boss about the 'driving incident'....
[18:19:11] <cmn32480> oh good
[18:19:19] <cmn32480> it is more the police I was worried about
[18:19:36] <cmn32480> you nuts driving on the wrong side of the road from the wrong side of the car...
[18:19:42] <janrinok> Oh, I told them, you only said 'don't tell the boss'
[18:19:50] <cmn32480> DOH!
[18:20:01] <cmn32480> J was there... she already knows
[18:20:12] <janrinok> lol - you know your place
[18:20:40] <cmn32480> sadly
[18:21:50] <cmn32480> and I don't get the horror stories about Haggis
[18:21:56] <cmn32480> I found it rather tasty
[18:23:44] <janrinok> I like it too, but I don't think it is the done thing to say so
[18:24:54] <cmn32480> hmmm
[18:24:56] <cmn32480> interesting
[18:25:09] <cmn32480> I was thinking that the whole thign is a big joke and they do it just for the tourists
[18:25:18] <cmn32480> and then laugh as they eat it
[18:25:36] <janrinok> probably a bit of truth in that
[18:26:06] <janrinok> Did you drink Irn Bru? - Made from Real Girders!
[18:26:39] <janrinok> ... or just stick to the whisky?
[18:26:51] <cmn32480> stuck to the beer and the whiskey
[18:27:01] <janrinok> wise choice
[18:27:05] <cmn32480> but funnily enough... I was drinking Irish beer
[18:27:56] <cmn32480> and Guinness tastes far different over there than over here
[18:28:10] <cmn32480> fresher... like it didn't travel as far to get to the pubs
[18:28:44] <janrinok> You americans are beginning to catch on
[18:29:03] <cmn32480> we are a little slow
[18:29:49] <cmn32480> but I will say.. our politicians are just as dumb as yours!
[18:30:58] <janrinok> No, I disagree, ours are far worse than _most_ of yours
[18:31:12] <janrinok> But you do win the overall prize
[18:31:31] <cmn32480> we should put them all on the titanbic and see what happens
[18:31:55] <janrinok> titanbic - is that a medication?
[18:32:08] <cmn32480> yes.
[18:32:12] <cmn32480> a relative of cyanide
[18:32:16] <janrinok> then we agree
[18:32:58] <cmn32480> you had doubts?
[18:33:15] <cmn32480> and if we put them on the titanic... make sure we punture their scuba tanks
[18:33:17] <janrinok> gtg - the 'boss' is ready to go to sleep now and I have to do my bit!
[18:33:23] <cmn32480> okie!
[18:33:26] <cmn32480> great talking to you
[18:33:31] <cmn32480> tell her I miss her
[18:33:33] <janrinok> best to J and the family!
[18:33:40] <janrinok> I will, as promised
[18:33:42] <cmn32480> I shall

[23:21:44] <Fnord666_> Bytram!!!!
[23:21:50] <Bytram> how you be?
[23:21:51] <Fnord666_> Sorry I stepped on your story
[23:22:00] <Fnord666_> I'm doing well. Thanks for asking
[23:22:00] <Bytram> apology accepted.
[23:22:04] <Fnord666_> How you be?
[23:22:15] <Bytram> I hope you don't mind, but I was doing research as to soylentnews'
[23:22:20] <Bytram> domain registratr,
[23:22:28] <Bytram> gandi's rates, etc.
[23:22:58] <Fnord666_> Unfortunately there's no way to tell if someone is still "actively" editing a story
[23:23:08] <Bytram> so, marked yours not display, and replaced it with my version... had been workig on it for at least a half hour.
[23:23:15] <Bytram> did it not show I was in it?
[23:23:20] * Bytram is just curious
[23:23:36] <Fnord666_> It did but it looks the same if you go into a story and then do something else
[23:23:41] <Bytram> I could have been at it longer than the 20 minutes it tends to reveal such info
[23:23:48] <Bytram> nod nod
[23:24:21] * Bytram thinks there should be a "no, I changed my mind and I am NOT planning to do anything with that story anymore" button.
[23:24:25] <Fnord666_> I should have dropped into IRC
[23:24:36] <Bytram> no harm, no fowl.
[23:24:50] <Fnord666_> quack quack
[23:25:05] * Bytram can neither confirm nor deny that he might have done the same thing himself... on one or more occasions.
[23:25:11] <Bytram> ;)
[23:25:51] <Fnord666_> If I think about it when I abandon a story I'll look at another story or submission just to change the notification
[23:26:12] <Bytram> heh.
[23:26:26] <Bytram> we need a story submission called "Not working on a story"
[23:26:34] <Bytram> =)
[23:26:51] <Fnord666_> Oh that's a good idea
[23:26:53] <Bytram> Hmmm, would that do the trick?
[23:26:57] <Fnord666_> yep
[23:27:01] <Bytram> Woo Hoo!
[23:27:20] <Bytram> Tell ya what, mid deleting your copy of the story from the queue -- no need for any potential confusion.
[23:27:30] <Fnord666_> I wish I knew what my registrar would charge if I just got the domain through them
[23:28:03] <Fnord666_> The domain registration story?
[23:29:06] <Bytram> yes
[23:29:23] <Bytram> Ask and ye shall receive -- check the story submission queue, now.
[23:29:30] <Fnord666_> Can you delete a story once it's in the story queue?
[23:29:47] <Bytram> I can. Oh, wait. I dunno if you can.
[23:29:56] <Fnord666_> My eyes are getting a bit old but I'm not seeing an option
[23:29:58] * Bytram forgets he has near-god-mode privs
[23:30:19] <Fnord666_> I on the other hand have near peon privs
[23:31:16] <Bytram> alongside the buttons under the "Editor's Notes" box, and along-side the "preview" and "update" buttons, I see a "delete" button.
[23:31:25] <Bytram> (while editing a story, that is)
[23:32:07] <Fnord666_> ah. I do not have such a button
[23:32:46] <Fnord666_> Best I can do is uncheck the display option
[23:32:47] <Bytram> good to know -- thanks!
[23:33:11] <Bytram> See? Ended up working out for the best, I learned something today!

[23:46:20] <Bytram> but a bunch of those were cube sats, IIRC
[23:46:51] <Bytram> is unclear to me if that is metric tons, US short on, or US long ton.
