[15:59:56] -!- Sirfinkus has quit [Quit: Textual IRC Client: www.textualapp.com]
[13:26:29] <CoolHand> going for coffee myself
[13:26:24] <Bytram> ciao for now
[13:26:19] <CoolHand> nice chatting
[13:26:18] <Bytram> so nice chatting with ya
[13:26:18] <CoolHand> yeah... I hear ya... normally I'm up for the fight.. have good call man
[13:26:13] <Bytram> ok, gtg
[13:26:08] <Bytram> yay sn!
[13:25:51] <Bytram> what we do here, IS doing someything to stem the tide of disinformation.
[13:25:31] <Bytram> in a way
[13:25:30] <Bytram> so

[13:25:04] <Bytram> #g good men to do nothing
[13:24:52] <Bytram> but, the price of liberty is constant vigilence
[13:24:38] <Bytram> tru dat
[13:24:29] <Bytram> ok, phone call is imminent... gtg
[13:24:21] <CoolHand> true... I'm really afraid of whats going to happen.. I just like to bury my head in the sand sometimes.. its easier
[13:24:16] <Bytram> but Ihave no desire at all to immerse myself in it!
[13:24:05] <Bytram> so I am obliged to at least keep an ear to what's going on,
[13:23:54] <Bytram> unforunately, it does have an impact on our lives
[13:23:40] <Bytram> yeah, politics. blegh
[13:23:25] <Bytram> When I look back on how long we'vew been around, and what we've accomplished... it's absolutely amazing!
[13:23:23] <CoolHand> true.. I just have been a bit burned out on tech news lately, and even more so on political arguments...
[13:23:00] <Bytram> hey, we're all volunteers.
[13:22:44] <CoolHand> I need to check more in evenings..
[13:22:41] <Bytram> IOW, i'm not just blowing smoke up your butt, I really do mean it!
[13:22:36] <CoolHand> yeah, hear ya
[13:22:17] <Bytram> and at 10pm or 11pm that means a LOT!!!!
[13:22:01] <Bytram> coming home from a late shift at work, and seeing it's 10pm and we need stories in the queue to make it until AM. One more story in the queue is one less that I have to come up with.
[13:21:13] <Bytram> you may think it's not much, but *every* bit helps!
[13:21:13] <CoolHand> yeah, I'll try to do more, I promise.. :D
[13:20:57] <Bytram> but seriously, I really do appreciate the work you do on the site...
[13:20:40] <Bytram> =)
[13:20:36] <Bytram> choooo!
[13:19:53] <Bytram> there's a bunch of long-timers like myself, but it's more like a bathtub curve.
[13:19:46] <CoolHand> ahh..
[13:19:30] <Bytram> lotsa folks wouldn't even be here 'next year'
[13:19:13] <Bytram> assuming people are around that long... our company ttends to have a not insignificant amount of employee turnover (retail)
[13:18:39] <Bytram> other departments where they may have, say, 8-10 people... would not work out so well, unless they had 2-3 people off at the same time.
[13:18:30] <CoolHand> hmmm... not everyone takes 2 weeks off - during summer - and they can rotate it farily if necessary
[13:18:12] <Bytram> then again, our dept is so much smaller than it used to be that it would not be a problem now, at least for us.
[13:17:37] <Bytram> I *suspect* the thinking is that there would not be enough time off available during the 'good' summer weather for everyone if they allowed that.
[13:17:13] <CoolHand> :D
[13:17:12] <CoolHand> screw those guys man
[13:17:05] <CoolHand> what?????
[13:16:54] <Bytram> we are not permitted to take two weeks off in a row.
[13:16:41] * Bytram dreams
[13:16:38] <CoolHand> cool... what movie? any good?
[13:16:35] <Bytram> I took a week off a week or two ago, am taking another at end of month
[13:16:25] <CoolHand> I took my 1st 2-week'er in a long time myself :D
[13:16:15] <Bytram> OTOH, treated myself to seeing a movie yesterday on my day off.
[13:16:14] <CoolHand> hear ya.. I think our vacay season is about done here
[13:16:00] <Bytram> so stretched a bit thin.
[13:15:53] <Bytram> layoffs, then someone left, and now summer vacation season
[13:15:33] <Bytram> pushing out stories here, full-time job, but short staffed for several months
[13:15:13] <Bytram> busy,as usual
[13:15:00] <CoolHand> how u been?
[13:14:44] <CoolHand> it's all good
[13:14:37] <Bytram> good good
[13:14:29] <Bytram> I'm expecting a phone call shortly, so forgive me if I get cut off mid conversation -- I still tether my phone to get online.
[13:14:28] <CoolHand> I've got the one rebuilt also.
[13:14:18] <CoolHand> ahh, yeah :D I have other machines, like the one I'm on.. just didn't get a chance.

[13:13:12] <Bytram> urgh.
[13:13:03] <Bytram> Geesh, I can't remember how long it has been since we last chatted.
[13:13:02] <CoolHand> yeah... haven't gotten around to irc... the server I was running my client off of is gone... stupid cheap-a$$ hosting provider
[13:12:37] <Bytram> hope you are back up to normal?!!
[13:12:23] <Bytram> oh? Oh. ooooooh.

[12:23:04] <Bytram> 'tis Friday again... if we can try to start filling the story queue, that would be good. (When folks see the submission queue is low, they tend to be more willing to sub stories). Also, after a couple/few more stories, it will be Weekend Story Spacing Time ~2h21m.

[00:18:29] * Bytram has flashbacks of Sesame Street and the Cookie Monster
[00:18:23] <chromas> Well but now the link underline isn't superscript :D

[00:13:52] <Bytram> I'm not so enamored of the linked resources (never heard of 'em before), but as things go, it's actually an interesting submission. only a hint of 'snark', too. =)

[00:09:30] <Bytram> clicky?
[00:09:15] <chromas> I don't see a place for ipid on anon subs
[00:07:49] <Bytram> woop-s... missed one
[00:07:40] <Bytram> there... that looks better!
[00:06:57] <chromas> That's my thought on having the domain itself there :) I haven't changed it though 'cause lazy
[00:05:57] <Bytram> that's the technical word for it, I think!
[00:05:48] <Bytram> IOW, it looks *ugly*
[00:05:39] <Bytram> k
[00:05:36] <mrpg> brb
[00:05:31] <Bytram> I don't think it's necessary... it *really* throws off the flow of text in the story... over-emphasizes there is a superscript there
[00:04:36] <chromas> Right, but shouldn't it be superscript to match the link it goes with?
[00:04:16] <Bytram> this: <a href="foo>text</a> shows the domain name as normal-height/location text
[00:03:51] <Bytram> this: <a href="foo">text</a> gives me a superscripted domain name: [nature.com] following the link
[00:03:33] <chromas> I only see the [domain] when it's still a sub. Using whatever the defaults are
[00:03:13] <chromas> You don't want it to match the link?
[00:02:51] <Bytram> the problem is, I see: [nature.com] following the link... as a *superscript*
[00:02:15] <chromas> Makes sense; it's part of the footnote
[00:02:11] <Bytram> better is: <a href="foo>text</a>
[00:01:53] <Bytram> so all those domain names get displayed as a superscript, too. :P
[00:01:41] <Bytram> I have turned on the option to show domain names for links...
[00:01:28] <Bytram> <a href="foo">text</a> is NOT desirable (shame on <i>Nature</i>!)
[00:00:55] <Bytram> ugh...
[00:00:19] <Bytram> lol!
