[01:07:11] <mrpg> Alt-furry, alt-right, alright.
[01:12:44] <mrpg> I did one submission, the others I don't like that much. Bye have fun.
[01:20:44] <mrpg> whatever happened to ~blame?
[01:20:48] <mrpg> ~blame
[01:20:51] * exec points at Bytram
[01:20:54] <mrpg> hehehe
[01:26:54] <mrpg> I've noticed that engadget is a news aggregator. So we better look at the original article.
[01:27:31] <mrpg> That's all, bye.
[01:27:35] -!- mrpg has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[03:01:12] <Bytram> moved [sic] following the misspeeled word, and added a few more paragraphs from the original source.

[15:01:42] <janrinok> Eds - I've just deleted a handful of aristarchus' submissions and explained that we want unbiased and balanced stories. I will also be deleting any 'alt-right' stories unless they contain something news-worthy and of special merit.
[15:03:34] <janrinok> tell cmn32480 I have just logged on to IRC for the first time in several months. I will send you an update to Arthur once I have it in a suitable package :) A belated 'Merry Christmas' to you, J and the kids
[15:04:22] <cmn32480> ~gday janrinok
[15:04:24] * exec abnormally pisses a udf volume of whisky on janrinok
[15:04:42] <janrinok> ~gday cmn32480 !!!
[15:04:44] * exec unjustifiably spews a moldy tome of hip hop on cmn32480
[15:04:53] <cmn32480> {{{{{janrinok}}}}}
[15:05:11] <janrinok> {{{{cmn32480}}}}
[15:05:16] <cmn32480> how are things?
[15:06:23] <cmn32480> feels like it has been ages since we talked... oh wait... it has
[15:06:35] <janrinok> S was in hospital last Friday for a minor op, she is back home but requiring a bit of TLC. My PiL are with us. My FiL had his last chemo at the beginning of December and he is tired and thin! Feeding him up!
[15:07:01] <cmn32480> glad he is doing well.
[15:07:11] <cmn32480> please give S a very gentle hug for me
[15:07:14] <cmn32480> I've missed her
[15:07:23] <janrinok> not sure that the chemo has been entirely successful - but he is better than he was
[15:07:43] <cmn32480> <crossed fingers>
[15:07:57] <cmn32480> and you... I've missed you too
[15:07:59] <cmn32480> kinda
[15:08:02] <janrinok> S sends you a big hug and a grin!
[15:08:36] <cmn32480> if that is how she wants to be ... tell her I said pbtptpbtptb!
[15:08:52] <janrinok> thx, I've missed this place, but I am really working hard at this end. Plus I still have a vocal problem and cannot talk properly
[15:08:55] <cmn32480> and make sure you stick yout your tonghe while making the raspberry noise
[15:09:23] <cmn32480> I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't gotten better
[15:09:35] <janrinok> she is chuckling away to herself, and if she laughs too much it makes the stitches hurt!
[15:09:49] * cmn32480 cans the jokes and sticks with funny faces
[15:10:06] <cmn32480> she ought to be used to that... she married one
[15:10:12] <janrinok> nah, keep going, she enjoys it really (I think...)
[15:11:12] <janrinok> I've forgotten most of the commands that I used to use here on IRC, I'll have to go back into the history and see if I can refresh my memory
[15:11:13] * cmn32480 giggle with glee
[15:11:28] <cmn32480> /me talks in third person
[15:11:49] <cmn32480> anything for exec starts w/ a ~
[15:11:57] <cmn32480> Mrplow starts with a #
[15:12:13] <cmn32480> beyond that there isn't much
[15:12:34] * cmn32480 hasn't been around much either in the last 6 months
[15:12:39] <cmn32480> maybe more
[15:12:45] <janrinok> thanks for the reminders - I'll still have to think about it a bit
[15:12:45] <cmn32480> work has been a killer
[15:13:01] * cmn32480 passes the swiffer for janrinok to get the coobwebs out
[15:13:42] <janrinok> I noticed that but just when I think that maybe you have dropped by the wayside I note a few more posts from you. You have still done far more than I have :)
[15:13:59] <janrinok> how's J and the kids?
[15:14:17] <cmn32480> J and the kids are well
[15:14:22] <cmn32480> kids are growing like weeds
[15:14:33] * cmn32480 makes a note to get some roundup on the way home
[15:14:45] <janrinok> don't say that - you know the battle that I have with weeds
[15:14:45] <cmn32480> J is her pretty standard self.
[15:14:55] <janrinok> both pretty and standard
[15:14:55] <cmn32480> mad at me for all the travel, but not rejecting the paycheck
[15:15:19] <cmn32480> your weed garden is beautiful and flourishing
[15:15:34] <janrinok> that is probably the problem with my garden
[15:16:15] <cmn32480> I spread that packet of dandelion seeds like you asked
[15:16:17] <janrinok> I've tried encouraging the weeds just so they think that they are actually wanted, and perhaps they would then die off, but no such luck
[15:16:38] <cmn32480> ah yes.. the brown thumb
[15:16:43] <cmn32480> I have one
[15:16:55] <janrinok> the roses and fruit trees are happy though
[15:17:07] <cmn32480> so that's rather significant progress.
[15:17:19] <janrinok> yup
[15:17:43] <cmn32480> I figured that the roses and trees had become casualties
[15:17:59] <janrinok> I've just trashed a pile of aristarchus' stories - much in line with your own comments on one of them
[15:18:24] <janrinok> and messaged him to explain why I did it and what we would really like to see
[15:18:25] <cmn32480> i dumped about 3 or 4 of his subs the other day as well
[15:18:58] <janrinok> he is a prolific submitter - it would be great if we could use some of them
[15:19:09] <cmn32480> yeah
[15:19:36] <cmn32480> the problem is that all of his stuff is written in such a way as to be inflammatory
[15:20:15] <cmn32480> to provoke trolling and attacks instead of discussion
[15:20:20] <janrinok> exactly, I suggested that he just puts them in his journal, which is already full of a lot of similar material
[15:20:36] <cmn32480> and the constant berating of other community members in the submissions is grounds for immediate deletion
[15:21:13] <janrinok> well, I have messaged him in the past and it has had no effect, I just wish he would accept what we are saying
[15:21:39] <cmn32480> we can only do so much.
[15:22:04] <cmn32480> but it is wonderful to see you
[15:22:11] <janrinok> how's the rest of the team? You been chatting to them recently?
[15:22:34] <cmn32480> bytram is running ragged. workign retail at Christmas is a rough gig
[15:22:49] <janrinok> likewise, I've missed being on IRC. Its only because everyone has gone for a sleep that I have time to get on here now
[15:23:07] <cmn32480> he is the only one I've talked to recently. like I said, I haven't been on here much in the last 6 months or so
[15:23:30] <cmn32480> understood
[15:24:24] <cmn32480> my travel schedule this year has been rough. I am finishing the year with about 78 nights on the road... whcih of course leads to issues on the home front
[15:24:24] <janrinok> bytram has left me in the dust when it comes to submissions. He puts an incredible amount of effort into everything he does
[15:24:36] <cmn32480> he most certainly does
[15:24:50] <cmn32480> and he does it well
[15:24:58] <janrinok> is the travel situation likely to improve in the new year?
[15:25:09] <cmn32480> yes
[15:25:13] <cmn32480> thank God
[15:25:35] <janrinok> glad to hear it - we only get one go at this life thing.
[15:25:39] <cmn32480> I hired a guy in November who is going to be taking on a bunch of it and we have a second guy probably oming on in April
[15:25:50] <janrinok> best you enjoy it with those that love you
[15:25:57] <cmn32480> agreed
[15:26:02] <Bytram> janrinok: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[15:26:08] <cmn32480> problem is all the bad habits like the mortgage and the food thing
[15:26:09] <Bytram> cmn32480: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[15:26:14] <cmn32480> bytram !!!!!!!
[15:26:20] <janrinok> {{{{{bytram}}}}}}
[15:26:20] <cmn32480> the old gang is all back in town
[15:26:33] <cmn32480> hey man... I'm getting the band back together...
[15:26:34] <Bytram> cmn32480: before I forget, congrats on reaching 2900!
[15:26:35] <janrinok> that does not bode well for IRC.
[15:26:35] <CoolHand> janrinok!! Bytram !!!! cmn32480 !!!
[15:26:42] <janrinok> ch!!!!!
[15:26:46] <cmn32480> CoolHand!!!!!!!!!
[15:26:49] <Bytram> CoolHand: !!! omg!
[15:26:53] <CoolHand> Thought I'd join the party... :D
[15:26:54] <cmn32480> the WHOLE band is back together!
[15:26:55] <janrinok> damn, it's almost like old times
[15:26:58] <Bytram> teamwork++
[15:26:58] <Bender> karma - teamwork: 154
[15:27:13] * Bytram races ahead and snags the kazoo
[15:27:22] <janrinok> cmn, best we stop talking about bytram now
[15:27:22] <CoolHand> I want to play drums... I don't know how though..
[15:27:43] <janrinok> CH, never stopped you from doing anything in the past
[15:27:46] <Bytram> #g counting crows mister jones
[15:27:46] <MrPlow> https://en.wikipedia.org(Counting_Crows_song) - "\"Mr. Jones\" is a song by American alternative rock band Counting Crows. It was released in December 1993 as the lead single and third track from their debut album, August and Everything After (1993). It was the band's first radio hit and one of their most popular singles."
[15:27:52] <CoolHand> janrinok: true dat! :D
[15:28:13] * Bytram helpfully shows janrinok how to use one of MrPlow's tricks
[15:28:21] <CoolHand> oh no, now Mr JOnes is gonna be stuck in me head
[15:28:22] <cmn32480> and there was much hugging and back slapping and smiles all around
[15:28:27] <Bytram> =)
[15:28:32] <janrinok> I love little hints like that, Bytram
[15:28:39] <Bytram> orly? =)

[15:29:37] <CoolHand> I'm heading there in two days!
[15:29:38] <CoolHand> :D
[15:29:38] * cmn32480 calls Miami
[15:29:48] <cmn32480> nice Coolhand
[15:29:54] * Bytram notes we got on the order of 6 inches of snow on christmas day
[15:30:00] <janrinok> is there much of the US left, or has it all either burnt down or flooded?
[15:30:00] <CoolHand> Partayyy!
[15:30:25] * cmn32480 notes it is currently flurrying
[15:30:34] <CoolHand> Bytram: we only had a couple on Xmas Eve, but it was no fun to drive across the state in... the road crews didn't really seem to want to work on Xmas eve day
[15:30:55] <cmn32480> hey - coulda been worse
[15:31:06] <cmn32480> you could have been in Erie, PA
[15:31:07] <CoolHand> janrinok: we're a bit frozen here in the midwest, but other than ok..
[15:31:11] <Bytram> I got w/in 1/4 mile of my sib's home to find that the last two streets had not been plowed, at all...
[15:31:22] <cmn32480> they got like 60 inches in 2 days
[15:31:34] <Bytram> there were just two tire tracks with the middle scuffed off a bit.
[15:31:42] <cmn32480> that's near 2 meters for you European folk
[15:31:45] <CoolHand> haha
[15:31:52] <janrinok> we had a flurry of snow in the UK. The southerners declared it a disaster area while the northerners put on an extra pullover.
[15:32:12] <Bytram> I crossed my fingers that I could make it from the first road to the next... yep, someone had been that way, too... was all downhill (literally) from there
[15:32:24] <Bytram> told 'em when I arrived "I ain't leavin until they plow"
[15:32:31] <janrinok> In France, it just keeps raining... and raining.... and raining...
[15:32:37] <CoolHand> Bytram: u in 4x4? or just FWD?
[15:32:44] * Bytram rumages around for an umbrella and some macs
[15:32:51] <Bytram> just front-wheel drive
[15:33:02] <Bytram> and the tires are not as in good shape as I thought they were
[15:33:24] <CoolHand> :D I took an excursion through a corn field last winter when things got a bit slickery...
[15:33:30] <CoolHand> in my Honda Fit..
[15:33:41] <Bytram> but, made it there without issue, the plow came (after dinner and just before gifting) so no problem making it home, either. =)
[15:33:53] <Bytram> sounds like fun!
[15:34:00] <janrinok> CH, that sounds like the start of a Steven King novel
[15:34:05] <Bytram> ROFL
[15:34:33] * Bytram learned to drive in a WWII-era willey's (sp?) jeep
[15:34:54] <cmn32480> it was new out of the factory at that point too]
[15:34:56] <Bytram> had been driving offroad for a few years before I ever got to drive on pavement
[15:34:57] <CoolHand> haha... it was pretty exciting... I couldn't believe I actually made it back onto the road in that little car... just dropped it into 2nd and kept the hammer down
[15:35:09] <Bytram> fun++
[15:35:09] <Bender> karma - fun: 1
[15:35:37] <Bytram> does the Fit have 4x4? AWD? or just FWD?
[15:35:37] <janrinok> fun++
[15:35:37] <Bender> karma - fun: 2
[15:35:43] <CoolHand> I'd done a winter cornfield excursion before, but in an Isuzu Trooper 4x4... a bit different with only a few inches of clearance
[15:35:48] * Bytram takes the t-bird away
[15:35:51] <CoolHand> Bytram: Just FWD
[15:35:56] <Bytram> kewel!
[15:36:19] <janrinok> you should have seen the mess in the field when the thaw came!
[15:36:23] * cmn32480 pats his Yaris on the head and tells it gently to stay on the damned roads
[15:36:33] * Bytram refers back to the counting crows
[15:36:42] <CoolHand> cmn32480: yeah the yaris is pretty equivalent to my fit... it might make it
[15:36:56] <cmn32480> FWD sedan....
[15:37:08] <cmn32480> it does ok, but the clearance is somewhat lacking...
[15:37:23] * Bytram has a car that is getting very long in the tooth... have been eyeing something more compact, but is wary of ones where the engine (and everything else) is shoehorned into a too-small space.
[15:37:56] <CoolHand> meh, about all vehicles are that way these days... just go all electric ... :D
[15:38:04] * Bytram eyes the Fit and Yaris with interest
[15:38:21] * Bytram lives in an apartment, on the top floor, and no way to charge a BEV
[15:38:23] <janrinok> stick with the jeep
[15:38:39] <Bytram> that was my dad's, which he sold a couple dozen years ago.
[15:38:40] <janrinok> you could probably get it up the stairs to your appartment
[15:38:59] <cmn32480> all you do with the yaris is pick it up and put it in your pocket
[15:39:12] <Bytram> you obviously think I am in better shape than reality would reveal
[15:39:12] <cmn32480> think pregnant roller skate
[15:39:16] <janrinok> ... and hope the Yaris doesn't leak in your pocket
[15:39:26] <Bytram> or are you happy to see me?
[15:39:28] <janrinok> nurse is here -brb
[15:39:31] <Bytram> k
[15:40:05] <cmn32480> hey.. mine is 11 years old w/ 208k miles (334743.552km) on it.. and it doesn't leak
[15:40:11] <CoolHand> Bytram: we have an original '07 manual tranny fit (that I took offroad), then a '17 paddleshift automatic fit with all the fancy trimmings.. its not bad... but I love the '07.. 225k miles on the body (about 160k on the engine - we had to replace it at 70k with a 10k motor due to a teenage son incident with scraping off the oil pan in a mall parking lot)
[15:40:45] <Bytram> cmn32480: was thinking of you yesterday... when I was at my sib's for xmas dinner, enjoyed a bunch of Jarsberg cheese, and have been tooting up a storm ever since... gas got so bad, I left work early yesterday.
[15:40:55] <CoolHand> I replaced the clutch at 150k, and a few minor things... alternator, shocks, ball joints but, pretty dependable
[15:41:16] * Bytram is no where near that handy with mechanical things
[15:41:54] <Bytram> CoolHand: btw, happy belated congratulations on reaching 1100 stories posted@!
[15:42:03] * cmn32480 did the brakes at 150k, the alternator and gasket between the Manifold adn the down pipe at 180, and the usual oil changes
[15:42:11] <CoolHand> Bytram: thanks man... its an honor and a privelege
[15:42:23] <Bytram> we are quite a team!
[15:42:35] <cmn32480> we are something...
[15:42:37] <CoolHand> oh, yeah, I didn't count brakes.. I always do a lot of those on all my vehicles.. thats about like tires.. :D
[15:42:39] <Bytram> did you hear that Nick... got married?
[15:42:55] <CoolHand> whut?????? no...
[15:43:02] <Bytram> yup!
[15:43:10] <cmn32480> WHAT????
[15:43:18] <cmn32480> that's news
[15:43:28] <CoolHand> shoulda wrote up a front page story... :D
[15:43:34] <cmn32480> seriously
[15:43:40] <Bytram> things have improved tremendously for him, and that was part of the reason he'd become a bit scarce among these parts... he'd been -- distracted. =)
[15:43:57] <CoolHand> well, yeah, new toys to play with and all that.... :D
[15:44:08] <cmn32480> damn newlyweds....
[15:44:33] <Bytram> on 2017-10-20: <nick> i have been good, very busy couple of months in the US, got married, now im back in Uruguay again
[15:44:44] <cmn32480> good for nick.
[15:44:49] <Bytram> yuppers!
[15:44:50] * cmn32480 is happy for him
[15:45:00] <CoolHand> w00t!
[15:45:13] <Bytram> gtg, biab
[15:45:35] <CoolHand> c ya Bytram
[15:46:32] <CoolHand> well, the party is about over...
[15:46:47] <cmn32480> they'll be back
[15:46:49] <cmn32480> eventually
[15:46:56] <cmn32480> thought janrinok will be back in several months
[15:47:51] <CoolHand> you still working like a slave cmn32480 ? all over the country?
[15:47:57] <cmn32480> yeah
[15:48:07] <cmn32480> everywhere but near home it seems
[15:48:20] <cmn32480> but I got one guy hired in November that is going to be taking a lot fo that
[15:48:32] <cmn32480> adn another guy on tap to start in April who will take a chunk as well
[15:48:33] <CoolHand> w00t!
[15:48:34] <cmn32480> so that is good
[15:48:37] <CoolHand> nice..
[15:48:41] <CoolHand> finally... u deserver it
[15:48:43] <cmn32480> yeah keep me home for a while
[15:49:02] <cmn32480> it will (hopefully) make the misses happy
[15:49:15] <CoolHand> if mamma ain't happy....
[15:49:36] <cmn32480> exactly
[15:49:42] <cmn32480> adn lately.. she aint' been happy
[15:50:16] <CoolHand> sucks... good luck with that..
[15:50:43] <cmn32480> I'm trying
[15:50:56] <cmn32480> hopefully me being home more will smooth some thigns out on the home front
[15:51:13] <cmn32480> I mean I get it
[15:51:14] <CoolHand> take her out and show her off around town.... wimminz like that...
[15:51:19] <cmn32480> she didn't sign on to be a single parent
[15:51:53] <CoolHand> yeah, its definitely rough... work has destroyed more than one relationship for sure..
[15:52:13] <cmn32480> I'm trying hard to avoid that.
[15:52:14] <CoolHand> (even just working night shift by itself destroys more than its fair share, let alone being gone for weeks at a time)
[15:52:23] <cmn32480> exactly
[15:52:44] <cmn32480> and the ownership here gets that so they are trying hard to keep me off the road
[15:52:53] <CoolHand> well, hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel will help..
[15:53:02] <CoolHand> excellent, thats good.. too bad they didn't get it a bit sooner
[15:54:12] <cmn32480> we went through several people trying to find one that could do the work without needing 2 years of training
[15:54:56] <cmn32480> had a guy fall into our laps a few months ago that has been in industry for about 15 years, adn tehn a second guy who has been in for like 25 who is looking to start after first quarter next year
[15:55:14] <Bytram> back
[15:55:15] <CoolHand> ahh.. well, good u finally found one (well, two).. hopefully in time
[15:55:24] <Bytram> cmn32480++ Things are looking up for ya!
[15:55:24] <Bender> karma - cmn32480: 94
[15:55:42] * cmn32480 hopes it is in time
[15:55:50] <cmn32480> but only time will tell
[15:57:09] <Bytram> maybe give her a day off w/o the kids? Go to a day spa or something like that and just treat herself to a break?
[15:57:46] <cmn32480> slow down there chief
[15:57:56] <CoolHand> hah
[15:57:56] * Bytram chuckles
[15:57:57] <cmn32480> just got back from Disney world (her idea)
[15:58:05] <Bytram> oh, right.
[15:58:07] <cmn32480> all 3 kids are in school...
[15:58:13] <Bytram> did *she* enjoy it?
[15:58:23] <cmn32480> seems to have...
[15:59:21] <Bytram> that's good!
[15:59:32] <Bytram> did you umm enjoy the trip, too?
[16:00:15] <cmn32480> i guess
[16:00:23] <Bytram> nod nod
[16:00:25] <cmn32480> but I could never go back tehre adn be just fine with it
[16:00:51] * Bytram had a time when he enjoyed disney stuff, but that ended many years ago
[16:00:55] <cmn32480> I don't ahve the same feelings toward disney that J does.
[16:00:58] <CoolHand> well, all you can do is keep working that kind of stuff... if counseling would help, go sooner rather than later.. its at least a stalling tactic while the rest of the relationship recovers from work stress... :D
[16:01:28] <Bytram> CoolHand++ outside help is a *good* thing
[16:01:28] <Bender> karma - coolhand: 38
[16:02:03] <cmn32480> that thought has crossed my mind
[16:03:09] <Bytram> things felt, but left unsaid, can gnaw away at a relationship... having an impartial 3rd party act as 'referee' helps to let things vent
[16:05:17] <janrinok> back for another 10 minutes or so
[16:06:09] <cmn32480> then it is sleepy time for janrinook
[16:06:22] <janrinok> nope, then it is cooking time for JR
[16:06:37] <janrinok> just back reading and read about Nick - great news
[16:06:38] <Bytram> cannibal soup?
[16:06:42] <cmn32480> oh yeah.. it'd be dinner time in your neck of the woods
[16:06:43] <Bytram> ;)
[16:07:01] <janrinok> got to keep my FiL well fed and put a few more kilos on him
[16:07:05] <cmn32480> no.. that'd be cooking JR time
[16:07:11] <Bytram> lol
[16:08:15] <janrinok> so, with luck, in a few months time we will all be back on here more regularly?
[16:08:30] <cmn32480> here's to hoping.
[16:08:41] <cmn32480> need to give Fnord and bytram a break
[16:09:02] <Bytram> much appreciated!
[16:09:13] <CoolHand> I gotta go kids... Lunch and work calls... nice catching up with you all... good luck with the wifey cmn32480...

[16:10:32] <janrinok> yup - agreed
[16:10:55] <Bytram> btw, just a shoutout that the story queue shows we have had over 20200 stories posted to the site...
[16:11:10] <Bytram> though some of 'em are prolly non-display, but still!
[16:11:25] <cmn32480> we have posted a lot in 1970
[16:11:37] * Bytram has tomorrow off, may do some DB querries and get stats for an end-of-year roundup
[16:11:52] <Bytram> cmn32480: =)
[16:12:08] * Bytram notes we could use a few more $$ before end of year
[16:12:10] <janrinok> or Bytram could, you know, like rest a bit
[16:12:41] <Bytram> did that most of yesterday.... took a couple naps, which helped a lot.
[16:12:46] <cmn32480> he doens't know how
[16:12:51] * Bytram could prolly go for a couple more, though. ;)
[16:12:57] <janrinok> oh, that'll keep you going until 2018
[16:13:18] <Bytram> "There are some who don't work, and you can't make 'em. Then there are some who work, and you can't stop 'em."

[16:14:25] <cmn32480> so jr - what's for dinner tonight?
[16:14:34] * Bytram notes that works pretty well in other fields, too.
[16:14:48] <janrinok> well, I've got a Chinese meal to prepare. Something based on prawns, but with loads of calories for my FiL
[16:15:01] * Bytram decides to follow the suggestions... am gonna sign off, get some food together, and catch a nap.
[16:15:18] <Bytram> ladle on the alfredo sauce?
[16:15:22] <janrinok> Bytram, take care and it was GOOD to catch up with you all!
[16:15:30] <Bytram> same to you!
[16:15:35] <cmn32480> Same janrinok
[16:15:35] <janrinok> don't know what alfredo sauce is...?
