[02:13:49] <takyon> the fact check I wanted was about "Most Ailing NFL Players' Brains"
[02:14:28] <takyon> it might not represent the nature of the ~200 brains studied
[02:16:05] <Bytram> oh, that was YOU who asked for fact checking?
[02:16:21] <Bytram> I heard a report on this story today...
[02:16:55] <Bytram> they made the specific statement that the result could be misleading as the group of submitted brains would only likely be from those who had problems...
[02:17:33] <Bytram> if the footballer had no problems, why would they ( or their spouse, etc) submit the brain for analysis?
[02:18:32] <takyon> i'm just asking if "Most Ailing" makes sense
[02:18:37] <takyon> maybe it was not Most Ailing
[02:18:43] <Bytram> it was something like 100 out of 101 had evidence of CTE -- I don't recall the exact number, but I *do* recall that there was only one that failed yto show signs
[02:18:56] <Bytram> well 100 out of 101 is certainly 'most of the ailing'
[02:19:13] <Bytram> or, maybe, qualify it as 'of the submitted brains'
[02:19:14] <Bytram> ?
[02:19:25] <takyon> that's too long for a headline
[02:20:13] <Bytram> hmmm...
[02:20:29] <takyon> Maybe remove "Most"
[02:20:49] <takyon> I think that solves the problem
[02:20:57] <Bytram> Vast Majority of Submitted Ailing NFL Players' Brains Show Signs of Neurodegenerative Disease
[02:21:03] <Bytram> um,, yeah, that too. =)
[02:21:44] <takyon> "Ailing NFL Players' Brains Show Signs of Neurodegenerative Disease" is accurate because the sample group were all ailing, but it doesn't say anything about the broader group of brains that weren't necessarily sampled
[02:21:48] <takyon> so i think that is the solution
[02:21:54] <Bytram> I agree.
[02:22:20] <Bytram> I'm working on another story right now... you want to take this one? otherwise, i'll get to it in a few minutesa.
[02:35:41] <Bytram> takyon: updated; new title is: "Ailing NFL Players' Brains Show Signs of Neurodegenerative Disease"
[02:37:04] <takyon> k
[02:45:54] <Bytram> I like it much better -- good catch, and solution!
[03:08:42] <Bytram> have run out of oomph... calling it a night.
[03:09:06] <Bytram> takyon++ many thanks for again providing so many good submissions -- you make us look good!
[03:09:06] <Bender> karma - takyon: 57
