[16:48:18] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: BTW click edit on any story, just above the Intro Copy box you'll see "View Submission" wich is a link to the original sub
[16:49:33] <cmn32480> oooooooo how nifty!
[16:49:51] <cmn32480> thanks mrcoolbp
[16:50:12] <mrcoolbp> = )
[16:51:13] <cmn32480> That is VERY handy! wish I had knownw that last night.
[16:54:24] <cmn32480> you can also find the submission by searchign the title in the site search functino
[16:57:34] <cmn32480> somebody on the dev team likes us!
[17:18:28] <cmn32480> takyonafk - see above for what we were looking for last night.
[18:32:36] <janrinok> cmn32480: takyonAFK: I didn't realise that you weren't aware of this. Mind you, there have been a few new bits introduced that have caught me unawares too. Have you tried editing a META article, save it, and then look at your story queue? You don't actually have to edit anything to try this, but I recommend that you do it just to see the effect.
[18:33:50] <cmn32480> janrinok... I had that experience last night. It took a second to figure otu what happened. But I do recall seeing some discussion on this a day or two after the upgrade
[18:34:32] <janrinok> yep - that was me trying to work out what the hell had happened!
[18:35:15] <cmn32480> people must really love us again... lotsa submissions in the queue
[18:35:44] <janrinok> it'll be good for the weekend providing they don't all stop now.
[18:35:52] <cmn32480> amen
[18:36:13] <cmn32480> 27 subs in the queue at the moment. I'll take that going inot the weekend.
[18:36:39] <janrinok> take away anothe 10 or so for Friday, but it is still workable
[18:37:08] <cmn32480> anythgin from kaszz needs to be checked against the old site for unauthorized duplication. he/she has a history.
[18:37:26] <cmn32480> there will be mroe coming in tonight adn tomorrow. <crossed finger>
[18:37:54] <janrinok> nothing to say you can't submit to both sites. Hugh Pickens and a few others do so already. I've stopped worrying about it. I don't look at their site
[18:38:19] <cmn32480> sorry... UNAUTHORIZED duplication
[18:38:41] <cmn32480> he ahs a history of copy/paste of stuff that he didn't write
[18:39:19] <cmn32480> I am aware that hugh and a few others do it. but they submit their own stuff to both
[18:39:21] <janrinok> ah Ok, I'll bear it in mind but I do not visit the other site anymore. I have withdrawn my 'clicks'
[18:39:32] <cmn32480> I genreally do not either
[18:40:07] <cmn32480> I find that a quick google of site:slashdot.org <title or first line> is sufficient
[18:40:45] <janrinok> good idea
[18:40:56] <cmn32480> no clicks, but we get the info we need.
[18:41:07] <janrinok> you'll be expecting me to be technically competent next...?
[18:41:41] <cmn32480> no. jsut take notes and fake it.
[18:41:55] <cmn32480> for instance: the cold beam fusion story is on the other site
[18:42:00] <janrinok> story of my entire life
[18:42:17] <mrcoolbp> janrinok: yeah, he's definitely plagiarized in the past
[18:42:23] <mrcoolbp> can confirm
[18:42:29] <janrinok> noted
[18:42:35] <cmn32480> https://www.google.com
[18:42:35] <NetCraft> ^ 03Google
[18:42:40] <cmn32480> first link in the google search
[18:42:49] <janrinok> mrcoolbp: how's things - have we found the missing TMB?
[18:42:57] <mrcoolbp> not yet
[18:43:08] <cmn32480> we ok to delete them as we find them mrcoolbp?
[18:43:13] <janrinok> I'll bet he's fishing somewhere
[18:43:38] <cmn32480> we shoudl change his nick to DirtyRottenBuzzard
[18:43:42] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: if it's a straight copy/paste I'd say yes
[18:43:48] <janrinok> agreed
[18:44:09] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: normally we could just <blockquote> it, but from /. I'd rather not straight poach
[18:44:22] <mrcoolbp> I don't mind if we run similar stories but I'd rather they not be identical or just quoted
[18:44:31] <mrcoolbp> that just looks lazy IMO
[18:44:57] <mrcoolbp> at least with kazz we know to look out for it, and I think we sent him an email asking him not to do that at some point
[18:45:05] <cmn32480> my problem is that he is submitting it as his, when /. has already run the story under a different name.
[18:45:17] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: if you do end up doing that more then once, let me know and I'll send him an email
[18:45:25] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: yes exactly
[18:46:00] <mrcoolbp> my point was we could link to the /. article and blockquote it, but I don't desire to do that
[18:46:10] <cmn32480> 2 in the queue right now mrcoolbp. both are marked.
[18:46:38] <janrinok> nah, link to the _original_ source, not /.
[18:47:05] <janrinok> ... but I'm just a miserable git...
[18:47:20] <cmn32480> the copy/paste for the entire summary with no credit is dishonest
[18:47:45] <janrinok> burn him!
[18:47:45] <cmn32480> then I guess I am a miserable git too janrinok. misery loves company. let's go get a beer
[18:47:56] <janrinok> now you're talking!
[18:48:03] <cmn32480> I try :-)
[18:48:43] <mrcoolbp> cmn32480: I'll send him an email, it's just wasted effort on both SN's part, and his
[18:49:30] <cmn32480> he si the only one that we know of who does it regularly. the community woudl let us know pretty quick if somebody else was submitting that way. It seems that a fair number still read both
[18:55:11] <janrinok> I've got to be going - cu guys tomorrow
[18:55:26] <mrcoolbp> janrinok: do you have 5 more minutes?
[18:55:33] <mrcoolbp> no worries if not
[18:55:36] <janrinok> if you are quick
[18:55:42] <mrcoolbp> sure, sec
[18:56:24] <mrcoolbp> Hi Kazz,
[18:56:24] <mrcoolbp> We have noticed you are submitting stories to SoylentNews. While we appreciate the effort, it appears on more than one occasion you are just copying the summary of a Slashdot story and submitting it as your own writing. Not only do we not wish to simply poach stories from Slashdot, the way you are doing it can come off as dishonest; you are not attributing the actual writing of the summary
[18:56:24] <mrcoolbp> to the original author, instead it appears as if you have written it and to the best of our knowledge that doesn't appear to be true.
[18:56:24] <mrcoolbp> When we find these submissions we will simply reject them immediately. I'll ask that you refrain from doing this as it is a waste of your time and our own.
[18:56:24] <mrcoolbp> We appreciate you contributing to SoylentNews, but we would prefer you do it in another way.
[18:56:41] <mrcoolbp> --------------------------------------------------------------end email----------
[18:57:28] <janrinok> ... and if he doesn't stop I'll poke him with a sharp stick! That looks good mrcoolbp
[18:57:52] <mrcoolbp> okay thanks, cmn32480, any thoughts?
[18:57:57] <janrinok> its kaszz, by the way
[18:57:59] <mrcoolbp> janrinok: have a good one
[18:58:05] <mrcoolbp> janrinok: thx will fix

[18:58:13] <cmn32480> night janrinok.
[18:58:28] <cmn32480> sorry mrcoolbp, had someone walk in my office
[18:58:37] <mrcoolbp> np
[18:58:52] <mrcoolbp> draft email to kaszz is ~10 lines up
[18:59:26] <cmn32480> "...but we would prefer that you do it with original content."
[19:00:43] <mrcoolbp> nice
[19:01:55] <mrcoolbp> "I'd like to thank you for contributing to SoylentNews, it takes a lot of work to keep the news rolling and submissions are a huge part of that; however, we would strongly prefer that you do it with original content."

[19:14:50] <takyon> is it time to increase story frequency?
[19:15:45] <takyon> (I am the 40%)
[19:19:27] <Bytram> what is the current rate? and do keep in mind that the weekend slowdown is coming.
[19:21:02] <cmn32480> roughly 2 hours
[19:22:12] <Bytram> fwiw, during weekdays Monday afternoon through early afternoon on friday, it seems that 90 minutes or so works out pretty well; on the weekends, anywhere from 2 1/4 to 3 hrs seems to do the trick.
[19:22:28] * Bytram fetches his lunch
[19:22:29] <takyon> the queue is phat
