[13:36:51] <janrinok> 1001
[13:35:23] <janrinok> Well, I've made a small contribution to the story list and the nurse is due soon so, to avoid being told off (again!), I'd better get back in bed and make a pretence of resting as instructed. All the best to you and your family, and pass my best wishes to the the other ed's if and when your paths cross. Take care.
[13:30:48] <janrinok> Well that is progress in some ways then. I hope it gets resolved so that we can all get along, and sooner rather than later too.
[13:30:05] <LaminatorX> A State Patrol Trooper shot someone trying to surrender in South Carolina last week, and was summarily fired and arrested. I hate to look at another black guy getting shot as progress, but I have to thing the accountability there wouldn't have happened if not for the troubles here.
[13:28:31] <LaminatorX> Improving in so far as it's become clear that the status quo is intolerable, and that people are talking to eachother rather than being caught up in our own parochial concerns.
[13:24:23] <janrinok> That's is good to hear. Any signs of the whole situation improving or is the divide still as big as ever?
[13:23:20] <LaminatorX> I was a bit uncertain heading up, I didn't want to be a tourist in other people's neighborhood and experience, but we were welcomed.
[13:18:22] <janrinok> it was good of you to go and pay your respects tho'. And a good decision to avoid the night - it is still making the occasional news item here.
[13:17:27] <LaminatorX> I didn't stick around for the nighttime confrontations though. Responsible dads don't get maced and tossed in the county lockup.
[13:16:36] <LaminatorX> I'm good. I spent the weekend in Tennessee with my in-laws, then got back up here in time to go pay my respects and do some peace-love&understanding work up in Ferguson.
[13:15:51] <janrinok> How's things with the rest of the crew?
[13:15:38] <janrinok> thx - it's a milestone of sorts I suppose!
[13:14:46] <LaminatorX> A thousand stories, wow. You deserve a rest. :D
[13:12:37] <janrinok> LaminatorX: hi - how's things with you. I cannot stay long as I am supposed to be in bed resting, but just popped on to post my 1000th story and to say hello.
[13:11:25] <LaminatorX> Hi there.

[13:02:54] <LaminatorX> I might write about it once I've had time to process it more.
[13:02:03] <LaminatorX> It was kind of profound. A little boy asked me what color I was, confused by my pale legs, pink face, and tanned driver's-side arm.
[12:59:48] <LaminatorX> Got up to Ferguson yesterday night. Spent some time playing with neighborhood kids and sharing eachother's folk music. Headed back home before the protests heated up, as I couldn't take the kids to school if I'm jailed up in North county.
[12:52:08] <Bytram> how's things?
[12:51:25] <LaminatorX> Hello there.

[02:02:54] <juggs> paulej72, https://soylentnews.org is one such troll - if that helps narrow things down
[02:01:39] <chromas> If I post as AC while logged in, does the code know it? or is only stored as an ipid?
[01:58:20] <paulej72> i have found three acs with systemd comments, we need to find out which one is making the fuss.
[01:57:15] <juggs> can we easily get a count of just how many AC comments that ipid has made containing "systemd"? Seems like an sql query away to me :D
[01:50:59] <paulej72> we could put a ac cooment ban on that ipid
[01:50:54] <Bytram> brb, dinner's almost ready.
[01:50:47] <Bytram> has riled up quite a few folks on the site with the incessant harping on it on every story.
[01:50:09] <Bytram> just mod "offtopic", as appropriate? Seems to come from the same ipid each time.
[01:48:59] <Bytram> btw, I prolly missed it, but has there been any discussion about what to do with the AC who has been spamming the stories with comments about systemd?
[01:48:38] <juggs> or it stays in boxes for years until you move again
[01:48:08] <Bytram> paulej72: yeah, the first 99% takes 99% of the time, and the last 1% takes 99% of the time. :/
[01:47:29] <juggs> and thus spake one who knows! :D It frightens me how much paulej72 can carry around in his head :D
[01:47:24] <paulej72> 99%
[01:47:06] <Bytram> paulej72: good to "SEE" you! Are you all moved in and settled?
[01:46:58] <paulej72> even was able to not apply it to journals if we want to

[01:46:23] <Bytram> paulej72++
[01:46:14] <Bytram> grep -iwo "lig[^ ]*" l.txt
[01:46:13] <paulej72> i got the code working to turn of comments on older stories.
[01:46:09] <Bytram> I must be tired. I have no idea why I came up with that gawk mess above when I could have just done:
[01:45:26] <paulej72> juggs everyone hits varnish. there is also the memcache that has to time out as well
[01:44:54] <juggs> ~shrug~ I leave that to those that know what they're doing :D
[01:44:49] <Bytram> you could well be right. My recollection was that the static part of the page was cached, but I could be all wet with that.
[01:44:44] <n1> always seem to, every edit take a minute or two to finally come through
[01:44:30] <chromas> maybe they only hit it just a little
[01:44:02] <juggs> Bytram - odd - I thought logged in users didn't hit the varnish cache. I'm likely be misremembering
[01:43:53] <Bytram> lightning.
[01:43:51] <Bytram> lightning.

[01:43:01] <juggs> \o/ smoking cures all cache issues :D thanks n1
[01:43:00] <n1> we aim to please, eventually.
[01:42:05] <chromas> good work, sir *hat tip*
[01:41:43] <n1> slash voodoo
[01:41:42] <chromas> ah
[01:41:36] <n1> i changed the title in first edit and then a couple minutes later did that one.
[01:41:28] <Bytram> should be fine in a few minutes
[01:41:21] <Bytram> hmmm, when I look at the page as a logged-in user, I see "lightening", but when I go to edit it, it's "lightning"... must be a cache issue.
[01:41:12] <chromas> it's weird 'cause the title had changed
[01:41:03] <n1> whats the ugh for, Bytram?
[01:40:57] <n1> as if by magic...
[01:40:51] <chromas> there it goes
[01:40:30] <Bytram> ugh...
[01:40:29] * chromas furiously ctrl+f5s
[01:40:15] * Bytram looks again...
[01:40:01] <n1> yeah, that's what i fixed
[01:39:53] <chromas> first sentence of second paragraph
[01:39:28] <Bytram> n1: yup. looks good to me, too.
[01:38:37] <n1> it's fixed for me now, outside of editing
[01:37:58] <Bytram> btw, I just got mod points; let me know if you see anything needing correction
[01:37:30] * chromas also gets the e on first load
[01:37:27] <juggs> What's for dinner dad?
[01:37:24] <Bytram> lemme check...
[01:37:24] <n1> yeah, it usually takes 5 minutes
[01:37:10] <juggs> I must be still hitting a cache somewhere as I still see it in the summary Will go for a smoke to wait it out :D
[01:37:09] * Bytram wanes eloquent!
[01:36:56] <Bytram> just popping in for a bit whilst I await my dinner's cooking.
[01:36:35] <juggs> Hi Bytram

[01:32:35] <juggs> n1 - you missed the one in the summary! "For example Michael Utley was a successful stockbroker who often went skiing and windsurfing before he was struck by lightening."

[01:24:38] <juggs> Heads up - typo in the latest story title https://soylentnews.org Should be "Lightning" in this context rather than "Lightening". The same incorrect choice also appears in one place the body of TFS.
