[18:18:23] <LaminatorX> Cool, thanks.
[18:18:09] <janrinok> sry - I might*
[18:17:45] <janrinok> That's today's posts taken care of - I'll might have time to start on tomorrow's later.
[18:04:36] <janrinok> not very talkative, is he?
[18:00:35] <janrinok> lol
[18:00:28] <LaminatorX> He's moving faster than we can properly perceive.
[17:59:39] <janrinok> Ah - I've seen you log on and log off many times, but never engaged you in conversation. Hi
[17:59:16] <Tachyon> hm?
[17:58:49] <janrinok> ...just botting through?
[17:58:28] <janrinok> welcome Tachyon

[16:02:51] <janrinok|afk> thx cu in a while
[16:02:43] <LaminatorX> Any progress is progress. I'll keep things moving.
[16:02:42] janrinok is now known as janrinok|afk
[16:02:17] <janrinok> all good suggestions - but I'm going to have to go for an hour or so - I have to feed S, who is making slow but steady progress.
[16:01:40] <LaminatorX> I should probably do the adressing inthread. Mea culpa, after all.
[16:00:11] <LaminatorX> It might be good to have an "OpEd" or "Rant" category, that people who don't want that sort of thing can just block from their feeds.
[15:59:18] <LaminatorX> It would be a good topic to discuss with the community in a broader sense at some point though, as we work out where our lines are, especially as people start writing more original content.
[15:58:11] <LaminatorX> Hmm. I think a response in the thread itself might be preferable, rather than a seperate story. I hesitate to draw further attention to it beyond those who have already read it.
[15:54:58] <janrinok> I can put a short piece together explaining the shortage of staff leading to the correct procedures not being followed, if you want?
[15:54:04] <janrinok> NC was keen (on Saturday at least) that we follow up with our 'findings' and let the community know what we have done to prevent an occurrence. We've already issued apologies and the regulars seem to be happy at that.
[15:52:22] <janrinok> Chalk it up to another lesson, as you have already said. We 'think' that we may have lost 1 or 2 members (literally, no more than that) but I have made several comments in the thread since asking people to be patient why we work out what went wrong. The lack of eds means that stories are not being checked as rigorously as we might want them to be.
[15:51:39] <LaminatorX> I'm not super bent out of shape over the few "this is my last time visiting this site" comments, somebody like that would've been rubbed the wrong way by something sooner or later, but the vast preponderance of the commetns were negative, and that's not to be ignored.
[15:50:21] <janrinok> Well, that is basically what I told Bytram. We are all editors together and have equal responsibility for what goes out, but I think he was a bit reluctant to cut the paragraph. But when the complaints started, he carried out the edit, while I emailed you, and we all had a discussion with NC and MrC too.
[15:49:25] <LaminatorX> I'm glad marty took action, given what was going on in the comments.
[15:48:16] <LaminatorX> Part of the concept for the summary, to my mind at least, is for the submitters to give a piece of their mind on the subject at hand for the rest of the community to read. Just the same, if any of you think I've misjudged where to draw the line, feel free to act. My posts aren't sacrosanct.
[15:45:27] <janrinok> The shame of it is that it was not 2nd edited - seen, but no action taken - which might have avoided the situation. I was surprised by the reaction but I couldn't see the relevance of the last paragraph. But, there but for the Grace of God, as they say....
[15:44:01] <LaminatorX> I did post that as I was going to bed, but I also seem to have less of a problem with submitters opining than a majority of the community (at least as measured by comments) seems to expect. The learning experiences never stop around here.
[15:41:33] <LaminatorX> We can do it for a while, but quality starts to slip. (cough Fired teacher story cough)
[15:41:26] <janrinok> If you don't mind me asking here - was that story just rushed on Saturday or would you rather discuss it elsewhere?
[15:40:40] <LaminatorX> Yeah, we've accounted for 32 of the last 40 stories.
[15:39:15] <janrinok> yep, its a pity. I don't know about you but I am feeling pretty stretched at present.
[15:38:38] <LaminatorX> No word. I assumed at first he was occupied with new school-year business, but now I'm leaning towards his being the 50% attrition sample balanced against Azrael sticking around.
[15:37:25] <janrinok> zizban?
[15:37:09] <LaminatorX> I think n1 is on another field assignment, if I recall correctly.
[15:36:09] <janrinok> Any idea where all the editors are - we seem to be thin on the ground again
[15:35:56] <LaminatorX> Thanks.
[15:35:49] <janrinok> well, I'm pleased that everyone is OK.
[15:35:22] <LaminatorX> Right. Thankfully there's a tv broadcast tower just around the bend from us, so it takes all the lighning.
[15:33:27] <janrinok> almost party-like if it wasn't for the threat outside
[15:32:39] <LaminatorX> Basement, yep. We thankfully have a den down there, so we got everyone snuggled on the couches with the weather on the tv, ready to retreat to our windoless laundry room at a moment's notice.

[15:31:29] <janrinok> what do you have to do for a tornado - hunker down in the basement or just hold tight
[15:31:22] <LaminatorX> (myself included)
[15:30:54] <LaminatorX> The tornado was last night. No harm in my neighborhood, but it took a while to get everybody settled back down to bed.
[15:30:44] <janrinok> and what did you do for the rest of the time? LOL
[15:29:50] <LaminatorX> Busy. Attended two concerts, worked an all-day festival, grilled-out with the family, and dodged a late-night tornado.
[15:28:35] <janrinok> Hi LaminatorX how was your Labor Day w/e?
[15:27:24] <LaminatorX> Hi there.

[14:38:45] <Woods> The great merging of stories.

[14:36:51] <Woods> I think it was just an artifact left over from the merging.
