[15:01:20] <n1> hi janrinok
[15:05:09] <janrinok> n1
[15:05:10] <janrinok> hi
[15:07:11] <n1> how are you on this rainy sunday?
[15:07:48] <janrinok> fine - having a very lazy Sunday. Ps in Law doing everything today. I'm actually getting a day off!
[15:08:02] <janrinok> and you?
[15:09:35] <n1> that awesome
[15:10:04] <n1> doing pretty good i guess, feeling quite lazy myself
[15:10:50] <janrinok> So, I thought I'd shift a few stories and then do some programming for fun.
[15:16:29] <n1> i'm not going anywhere this evening so i can pick up where you leave off
[15:16:48] <n1> not that im imagining a lot of submissions happening today
[15:18:15] <janrinok> True, but there have been enough that I didn't have to write any subs myself this weekend.
[15:19:49] <n1> thats pretty good
[15:19:59] <n1> it is quite a contrast, site activity during the week vs weekends
[15:24:09] <janrinok> This morning was the worst time. I could only find 1 other person on any of the SN IRC channels. Still we had a good chat, but it was very quiet everywhere else.
[15:24:45] <n1> i went to bed quite late and checked on irc before i did, barely any activity all yesterday
[15:25:28] <n1> I see we have a new editor
[15:29:10] <janrinok> Yes, Woods came on-line yesterday afternoon.

[20:28:11] <n1> everything going well, janrinok?
[20:30:17] <janrinok> yeah good thanks
[20:30:59] <janrinok> 'bout you?
[20:32:09] <n1> not too bad, feeling like i should make dinner
[20:34:24] <janrinok> Just had mine cooked for me again - I'm a very happy and full bunny
[20:34:51] <n1> can't complain there
[20:35:00] <janrinok> you're not working tomorrow, are you?
[20:35:33] <n1> unless an emergency happens, no, bank holiday and all that jazz
[20:35:44] <n1> taking the day off tomorrow?
[20:36:18] <janrinok> I'm retired - so unless something really serious happens I should be OK!
[20:38:10] <n1> i plan on being at my desk for the majority of tomorrow, tuesday and wednesday i'm out and about for work but I still should be on my laptop after that's done.
[20:38:19] <janrinok> but I've still got visitors so I'm not sure if I'm looking after them or they are looking after me ;-)
[20:39:20] <n1> no doubt a bit of both
[20:39:36] <janrinok> but I rather hope more than one than the other...!
[20:41:00] <n1> how long are the in laws still there for?
[20:41:14] <janrinok> they leave Wednesday am
[20:41:50] <n1> but it's been good to have them around so far, a different kind of busy?
[20:43:15] <janrinok> yes, they've been more help than hindrance, and I've managed to get some jobs done with the help of my father in law that wouldn't have been done for a few weeks yet otherwise. So, on balance, I'm very much benefitting from the visit. But they do have their own demands etc
[20:44:37] <n1> I have the same feeling when my dad is around, it's good to have him around... but he can also be quite demanding and i end up having to fit in my life around what ever he's up to
[20:45:57] <janrinok> exactly. Both Sophie and I like a nice quiet and gently flowing day, with a very set routine which makes life easier for her. But whenever we have guests, it all seems to go out of kilter for the best of reasons.
[20:47:07] <n1> dont know if you caught it during your lurking earlier, but i'm probably making a day trip to france next month
[20:48:28] <janrinok> yes I heard, but I suspect you are heading more east than west? But if you are coming Brittany way, then let know.
[20:48:39] <janrinok> *let me know
[20:49:22] <janrinok> we are a good day's journey from Calais.
[20:49:31] <n1> yeah, we're going to Lille, because it's closer/cheaper and Paris sucks
[20:49:39] <n1> i'll keep that in mind for next time ;)
[20:49:42] <janrinok> true, very true
[20:50:20] <n1> dover-calais and drive to lille, only really going to see some live music
[20:50:29] <janrinok> we can easily accommodate upto 4 people, in 2 separate rooms with private shower/toilet and I've been told that I make decent food.
[20:51:01] <n1> heheh
[20:51:07] <n1> you'll regret telling me that ;)
[20:51:12] <janrinok> We live on the ground floor now as Soph cannot move to any other floor
[20:51:55] <janrinok> np - I've even got a good supply of wine and local beers. My real ale stock might get used but I'd prefer to keep some of it intact!
[20:52:23] <n1> i just had to look it up on gmaps... don't know why but i assumed you'd be in the south of france, for the weather i guess
[20:53:31] <janrinok> No, anything too hot or too cold is no good for S. We looked at the S of UK but couldn't afford the sort of place that we wanted so we crossed the channel. S has dual nationality anyway.
[20:54:06] <n1> thats something i was going to ask, are the inlaws french?
[20:54:43] <n1> the only place relatively affordable in the south of UK is cornwall, in my experience
[20:54:45] <janrinok> Very much so - but they live in Bristol! Their children, S and her brother Eric both live in France!
[20:55:29] <n1> hah, thats a bit of a weird one, when did they move to bristol
[20:55:54] <n1> they retired or moved before/after having kids or other reasons?
[20:55:55] <janrinok> We have a very modest house in a small town (pop: 3667) which is in a popular tourist area. The in-laws moved to UK in 1953.
[20:56:42] <n1> a small town sounds so good right now
[20:56:46] <janrinok> S's dad was an airline pilot and worked for several UK companys at various times including one that was bought by BA.
[20:59:03] <janrinok> We are not the typical Brits in France - we are quiet and like our relative privacy, so we avoid most of the Brit enclaves. If you visit I can explain better why - it will be quite obvious after a few beers and a good chat anyway!
[20:59:37] <n1> i'd really like to take you up on that offer some time :)
[20:59:52] <janrinok> you'd be welcome
[21:00:13] <janrinok> Just don't expect a wild social life!
[21:00:15] <n1> the british enclaves are something to behold though, in their vulgar fashion... france is probably better in that respect though, compared to spain.
[21:00:50] <n1> heh, well London does me enough for wild, i try to escape when i can to the more naturally wild.. open spaces, fresh air
[21:01:47] <janrinok> The area we live is 10 minutes from the coast, very rural and, outside of the tourist season, a traffic jam is 2 cars going in the same direction.
[21:15:32] <n1> that sounds perfect to me
[21:15:36] <n1> i love the sea
[21:15:56] <n1> i'm very content with just fresh air and being able to listen to the sea
[21:16:17] <janrinok> Of course, the weather is better in season but you have to take your chances with the tourists.
[21:16:43] <janrinok> Apart from the language you could be in Cornwall.
[21:17:08] <janrinok> In fact, including the language you could be in Cornwall....
[21:17:33] <n1> a few weeks ago i went to listen and watch the sea after i had a client meeting... somewhere between brighton and portsmouth
[21:17:39] <n1> it wasn't so great
[21:18:21] <janrinok> We have a superb rocky coastline that is rarely quiet and can often be spectacular.
[21:18:36] <n1> the brown sea looked gross, and where i was just seemed too developed
[21:20:46] <n1> google images of the coastline where you are look quite superb
[21:22:54] <janrinok> Its known as the granite coast, and aptly so, and if you get a decent but windy day the crashing waves are mesmerizing. I could spend hours there nursing a beer or two. But, nowadays, I have other obligations at home. Still wouldn't change a thing though ;-)
[21:24:02] <n1> when i was in australia, i used to just wander down to the beach in the early hours, just stand on the beach, eyes closed listening to the sounds for a while
[21:24:10] <n1> maybe have a smoke and a drink, but mainly just listen
[21:24:18] <n1> i find it really relaxing
[21:24:41] <janrinok> I can understand perfectly
[21:26:46] <n1> its something i miss and dont seem to have opportunity for here
[21:27:27] <janrinok> not quite the same in the smoke, is it? Smelling the Thames washing against the river wall...
[21:27:46] <n1> yeah, that and the drunks and such
[21:36:22] <janrinok> sry - away for a few moments there.
[21:38:30] <janrinok> I've got to go. Prob cu tomorrow?
[21:39:47] <n1> was on phone
[21:39:50] <n1> i'll be around tomorrow
[21:39:52] <n1> take it easy
[21:40:02] <janrinok> ok until then. cu
[21:40:16] <janrinok> take care
