[16:21:00] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: Just got an email from Linode letting me know that magazine was rebooted (yay!), but:
[16:21:02] <Bytram> * magnesium - (203164475) Lassie initiated boot: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS - Completed Sun, 14 Jun 2020 16:01:10 GMT
[16:21:23] <Bytram> I thought magnesium was Gentoo?
[16:22:37] <TheMightyBuzzard> it is
[16:22:52] <Bytram> IIRC, magnesium, as well as lithium and aluminum were all Gentoo
[16:23:17] <TheMightyBuzzard> that's a profile name not an os
[16:23:22] <Bytram> the copy-paste from the email says it was Ununtu :/
[16:23:52] <Bytram> Umm, I don't quite follow?
[16:24:05] <Bytram> profile?
[16:26:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> it's a linode thing. unless you especially want to know all the workings of how linode vpses are set up, ignore it.
[16:32:50] <Bytram> so it is more than descriptive?
[16:33:23] * Bytram thought it was just a string that we put in so *we* could keep track of what we got
[16:33:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> no, it's nothing but descriptive
[16:34:44] <Bytram> so... we *could* change it to "Gentoo" ?
[16:38:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> we could but i'm not gonna. having the distro name as a label isn't useful, so there's no point changing it until we figure out something useful to do with them.
[16:39:22] <Bytram> okaaay.
[16:40:22] * Bytram has a local file listing all the servers, IP addresses, distros, memory, disk, etc. and refers to that to know what he can do on each box.
[16:41:15] <Bytram> as well as keep track of which ones are still eligible for a free upgrade
