[01:41:40] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: well, that would explain a few things! I tried looking at test story #10, with 'flat' and 'newest first' and the ordering was a hot mess.
[01:44:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> good good. as it should have been.
[01:44:41] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:46:02] <Bytram> so, do I remember correctly that the formatting options were going to change? or was I still in my illness-recovery-haze?
[01:46:09] <Bytram> threshold: -1..5
[01:46:18] <Bytram> Breakthrough: -1..5
[01:46:39] <Bytram> Flat/No Comments/Threaded
[01:47:43] <Bytram> Oldest First/Newest First/Highest Scores First/Oldest First (Ignore Threads)/Newest First (Ignore Threads)
[01:48:12] <Bytram> ^^^ these are the current choices... will all of these still remain available?
[01:48:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> drop the ignore threads ones and scores ones
[01:48:41] <Bytram> so, last set will become just: Oldest First / Newest First
[01:49:00] <Bytram> is that correct?
[01:49:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> we're going to intelligently manage whether we ignore threads or not and scores would require we pull every last comment every single time, which is bad.
[01:49:11] <TheMightyBuzzard> yep
[01:49:35] <Bytram> hmmm
[01:50:16] <Bytram> ISTR on /. that there was a time when I'd see something like: read _7_ of _42_ comments
[01:50:32] <Bytram> if I clicked on the 7, then I'd only see those that were at or above my threshold, but
[01:50:56] <Bytram> if I clicked on the _42_ I would see ALL of the comments (effectively choosing threshold = -1)
[01:51:11] <TheMightyBuzzard> comments below your threshold are just collapsed now. hit the little chevrons and they uncollapse.
[01:51:19] <Bytram> oh, okay
[01:51:38] <Bytram> speaking of which, I made a mistake way back when PJ was implementing that...
[01:51:57] <Bytram> I suggested they were backwards and he changed them to point in the other direction.
[01:52:11] <Bytram> now I see I was mistaken, he had 'em right the first time, and they need to be changed back...
[01:52:17] <Bytram> I'd suggest naming the files:
[01:52:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> #smake Bytram
[01:52:19] * MrPlow smakes Bytram upside the head with a chainsaw
[01:52:26] <Bytram> comment_single_hide
[01:52:31] <Bytram> comment_single_show
[01:52:35] <Bytram> comment_tree_hide
[01:52:39] <Bytram> comment_tree-show
[01:52:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> too late, they make sense to me now as is.
[01:53:07] <Bytram> let the nameof the .png file descibe its purpose, rather than descibe the appearance of the image
[01:54:02] <Bytram> that might be okay for you, but now that I've used a few other pieces of software, I find that the SN implementation runs counter to what I've seen elsewhere -- you may be okay, but it'll confuse everyone else
[01:54:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> heh, i don't really care man. we do need to do some css work though cause i see the images chopped a bit.
[01:54:35] <Bytram> for example, see the 'Resource Monitor" under win 7 pro.
[01:55:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> oooh, you'll win no friends citing Windows as a reference around here! =P
[01:55:24] <Bytram> I ain't lookin for no friends -- I do QA, remember?
[01:55:27] <Bytram> ;)
[01:55:31] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh ya.
[01:55:37] <Bytram> the law of least astonishment
[01:55:56] <Bytram> leverage what people know to help them understand how to use something that is new to them
[01:56:25] <Bytram> what if you bought a car where turning the wheel to the left made the car turn right?
[01:56:30] <TheMightyBuzzard> so, animating some gifs that expand to fill the screen with pr0n instead of collapsing comments would be right out then?
[01:57:01] <Bytram> well, might be useful in a little over 60 days.
[01:57:17] <Bytram> 2017-04-01
[01:57:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> anyway, remind me before we do the rollout and i'll try to get it changed.
[01:57:25] <Bytram> but only have it work one time in, say, 100
[01:57:32] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:57:40] <Bytram> much appreciated.
[01:58:46] <TheMightyBuzzard> had me a quality nap after dinner so ima be up for a few hours yet. think i may play some vidya.
