[11:31:11] <audioguy> Glad to hear that you are familiar with php mechanicjay. I only used it briefly for very simple things way back in late 1990s (php3?)
[11:31:39] <audioguy> I dowloaded it a while back, to me it still looks like the best bet for us. Prety cleancode.
[11:32:30] <audioguy> Thelist of update problems someone posted actually does not look like a big hurdle to me, assuming someon is relatively current with the language.
[11:34:12] <janrinok> There is another volunteer who claims to have both Perl and php experience who has popped up today. I'll invite him to participate in our discussions.
[11:35:07] <audioguy> I think janrinok mentioned that Brian () its writer was willing to be helpful. He could help by updating his code to the latest versions of php. :-) It's usually much simpler for the actual author to do it since they know where all the bodies are buried.
[11:37:07] <janrinok> Yes he joined us the other night. He and Deucalion had a good chat and Bryan was helpful. Deucalion confessed to not being a programmer so is currently working on other tasks more suited to his expertise.
[11:38:04] <janrinok> There are others looking at the pipecode but I don't know how much success (or otherwise) they are having. I am not being pessimistic, I simply do not know.
[11:38:24] <audioguy> Where was that chat?
[11:39:13] <janrinok> It was on #soylent.
[11:39:35] <audioguy> ah, I just got on there so missed it.
[12:17:13] <fab23> was/is there a public log of #soylent? If not, I will be able to provide it out of my WeeChat log, e.g. from the last few days
[12:19:13] <janrinok> Yes all the IRC public channels are logged. I just don't know where they are at the moment. The is a web site somewhere but I have forgotten where it is after all the changes that we have had to the hardware.
[12:25:48] <fab23> audioguy: here you go :) https://www.wenks.ch (times in CEST)
[16:38:40] <Deucalion> This channel is logged: https://logs.sylnt.us
[16:39:08] <Deucalion> Misposted that to #soylent as I was jumping around catching scrollback :D
[17:15:50] <janrinok> Thanks - I just had a brain-fart and couldn't remember the URL
[17:19:08] <fab23> I now have removed the log on my site, as it may contain too much information
[17:21:29] <fab23> nobody was requesting it from my site
[17:27:32] <janrinok> that doesn't mean it would never have been looked at. How many people knew it was there?
[17:29:24] <fab23> janrinok: only postet it in here, and I checked my webserver log
[17:30:02] <mechanicjay> I think I missed what we're talking about
[17:30:18] <janrinok> thanks anyway. but we have always tried to be open with discussion on IRC for those who haven't got ZNC
[17:30:35] <fab23> i prepared it for audioguy, as he was not in #soylent and we did not know where the logs are :)
[17:30:45] <janrinok> mechanicjay, fab23 and I were just discussing his log of the last few days chat on #soylent
[17:30:57] <mechanicjay> ah, got it
[17:32:18] <janrinok> I don't really want to read another document from NCommander. He said he had had enough. Now he wants to continue with a master plan into the future.
[17:33:13] <mechanicjay> Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
[17:33:52] <janrinok> how's things with you?
[17:34:44] * fab23 works best when he is able to see his boss a coworker and not a boss.
[17:34:45] <mechanicjay> In a zoom meeting, trying to find my focus, which has been shot to shit this week.
[17:35:28] <janrinok> hardly surprising.
[17:36:18] <janrinok> do you want us to keep you amused or just leave you to it?
[17:39:28] <mechanicjay> Chats are fine -- it's the bigger picture stuff -- I could do this work task - or try to get pipecode running
[17:40:23] <janrinok> "I mean this is people actually doing it under a specific plan that we can agree to" - well, there is the weak point right there. No ripping the site to pieces without consulting everyone. No just starting something without making sure that we kept the site up and running. Not setting unrealistic deadlines based on a youtube stream.
[17:42:36] <mechanicjay> I read a bunch of his recent posts closely last night -- which is hard, my eyes glaze over at a certain point.
[17:42:53] <janrinok> about word 2 in my case...
[17:43:38] <mechanicjay> The part where he talks about "never finding anyone to replace mrcoolbp" -- that is such a colossal failure of governance and that falls squarely on him and Matt.
[17:44:02] <Deucalion> And how long ago was that??? And how hard did anyone try?
[17:44:30] <mechanicjay> right - it was "anyone on staff want to step up?"
[17:45:02] <Deucalion> This revisionist history is incredible.
[17:46:59] <janrinok> I'm guessing that he wants to include this in his CV or something. But he doesn't want it to end as it appears it is going to. This way he can say 'I had a plan - but they wouldn't back me up'.
[17:47:32] <janrinok> and guess whose fault he will say that will be?
[17:48:00] <fab23> :(
[17:50:02] <janrinok> He should, IMHO, just do what is right for the community - that is what this site is supposed to be about.
[17:50:40] <Deucalion> Which is what in your HO?
[17:52:57] <janrinok> hand it over to those who can support it now and do so before the end of the month. Leave the site as it is. He cannot claim that he has lost interest and hasn't got the time, then a week later suddenly have a master plan that goes into the future. I'm sorry, I just don't see it.
[17:54:10] <Deucalion> kolie would be insane to agree to it. NC would never leave the board in that scenario for one reason or another
[17:54:56] <janrinok> I can edit anywhere - it doesn't really affect me. I hope that I am proven wrong. I really, really do
[17:55:20] <mechanicjay> Its interesting -- I'm dealing with a similar situation at my kids' school. A board member who is nuts, but there's nothing in the by-laws about forcing removal of board members.
[17:56:17] <janrinok> Deucalion, he said he was prepared to leave it just like that only a week ago.
[17:57:24] <fab23> some people change depending from which side the wind blows
[17:57:54] <Deucalion> janrinok, until he had a sniff that there might motions afoot to carry it on elsewhere, then all of a sudden it's "well, may not need to shut it down after all, as long as SN goes forth with just my vision"
[17:59:07] <janrinok> are we still locked out of ssh access - has anybody tried it recently or has it be fixed?
[18:00:14] <Deucalion> I dunno, I'm just tired of the whole thing at this point, like a puppet on a string with a sadist in control of the strings. Had enough. Ready just to call it a day.
[18:00:46] <mechanicjay> I tried yesterday, still no dice.
[18:01:32] * Deucalion goes for a little lie down
[18:02:28] -!- bryan [bryan!~bryan@136.50.qxv.zr] has joined #staff
[18:02:49] <mechanicjay> hey bryan
[18:05:45] <bryan> yo
[18:06:32] <mechanicjay> I was able to get a pipecode install kind of mostly going yesterday.
[18:07:15] <mechanicjay> Can't quite log into it though, seems there's something going with the way INSERTS are being formatted
[18:07:28] <fab23> mechanicjay: you will get some bugfixes soon, did play around with some things on pipedot and report some failure to bryan already :)
[18:07:52] <mechanicjay> I have such a massive diff right now, its not even funny
[18:08:46] <mechanicjay> I ran phpcs over the codebase and remediated the starting short codes (<?php now instead of <?) and translated tabs to spaces among other formatting stuffs.
[18:09:20] <mechanicjay> But there was hacking needed to even get this far, like I manually loaded the db schema and created the conf.php file.
[18:09:21] <bryan> "translated tabs to spaces" them's fighting words :)
[18:09:36] <mechanicjay> Then manually injected the admin account into the db
[18:10:02] <mechanicjay> bryan: I gave up the argument and just adopted the PSR2 code formatting standard
[18:11:04] <bryan> https://www.youtube.com
[18:14:29] <mechanicjay> Note, I also have vim setup to auto translate my tabs to spaces, so I never really know the differences.
[18:16:03] <mechanicjay> lol, forgot about that one
[18:26:05] <fab23> humanity will end like in Idiocracy :)
[18:28:32] <janrinok> check your emails guys....
[18:33:26] -!- kolie__ [kolie__!~kolie@2620:13c:nprx::vr] has joined #staff
[18:36:28] <mechanicjay> I'm about to post something really harsh on his latest journal post
[18:36:42] <mechanicjay> Who wants to preivew and talk me down?
[18:37:05] <janrinok> Wait until he has apologised because then he cannot back peddle again.
[18:37:49] <janrinok> Once he has told the community then he will find it very hard to do so.
[19:07:07] <kolie__> We will see how he feels when he wakes up.
[19:08:28] <janrinok> lol
