They are still doing flu vaccinations for free each autumn for those who require it, or for a very small price for those who just want it.

[10:58:16] <janrinok> There is no significant correlation of any of those claims and vaccinations here. There are a few coincidences - but nothing more significant than the number of people knocked down by a bus shortly after having a vaccination.

[14:45:56] <Ingar> I assume the empire vs nation analogy is easy enough to notice, but in in our nations, it is the people who keep putting corrupt leaders in power. it is hard to fix the people.
[14:47:25] <ted-ious> I think the people would fix themselves if they could actually vote for someone competent and good and then they actually did what they promised once they got into office.
[14:51:14] <janrinok> ted-ious, yes probably. But there would be too many who have too much to lose personally for them to allow anyone to succeed. Having 1 person at the top of the pile with the best of intentions will not prevent the obstruction from below.
[14:52:37] <janrinok> That is evidenced by the obstruction that many Presidents have received - they have been voted into power by the people but are unable to do what they hoped that they would. (I am not suggesting that any of them had only the best of intentions though...)

[15:08:09] <janrinok> I don't think we are there yet, but I can certainly see it happening in my lifetime (what's left of it!)

[15:44:57] <ted-ious> How do you fix things with torches and pitchforms without having a civil war that hurts millions of innocent people?
[15:48:03] <janrinok> You can't - so you either continue as you are or you decide that the change is necessary and worth it. Talking about it isn't going to change anything. For perfectly understandable reasons you and many, many others realise what the costs will be - but there are those who recognise your fear of those costs.
[15:48:48] <janrinok> They will continue to push to the edge of what you fear in the hope that you will not withstand the pressure. History is full of similar events.
[15:50:22] <janrinok> I don't want to see another civil war - I have seen enough of them during my lifetime. And if one starts in America or in Europe there will be a snowball effect which will take us back 80-90 years again.
