[12:07:08] <Regurgitator> [BBC Tech] Don't dry your iPhone in a bag of rice, says Apple - https://www.bbc.co.uk
[12:14:27] <chromas> pretty sure most phones are water resistant now
[12:40:24] <ted-ious> Don't dry it just throw it away and buy a new one?
[12:42:58] <chromas> surprisingly, they indicate the correct procedure, which is to tap the water out of the socket and let it dry out without shoving things into it or blowing with hair driers and stuff
[12:59:30] <ted-ious> Who tries to dry their phone out by shoving rice into it?
[12:59:52] <ted-ious> You just put it in the sealed container and let the water evaporate slowly over night.
[13:00:04] <chromas> no like q-tips and stuff
[13:00:19] <chromas> sealed container would slow the evaporation
[13:00:23] <ted-ious> Does the rice advice include q-tips?
[13:00:38] <chromas> no
[13:00:52] <ted-ious> No the sealed container is because rice that is properly dry will suck up more moisture if it's not exposed to the air in the room.
[13:01:11] <ted-ious> Unless you're in denver at january and the humidity is 5%.
[13:02:09] <chromas> I don't know that rice is a very good desiccant but also, according to apple, putting your phone in rice might clog it with rice dust
[13:02:36] <chromas> anyhow most phones are water resistant anyhow so it's no big deal
[13:02:51] <chromas> s/anyhow/now/2
[13:03:10] <ted-ious> Good point rice is probably nowhere near as good as silica gel packets.
[13:03:22] <ted-ious> But most people don't have those in the house. :)
