[05:56:52] <janrinok> techbeamers: hello
[05:56:53] <techbeamers> Hello!
[05:59:41] <halibut> I feel like I've seen the last two lines somewhere else recently ...
[06:00:03] <janrinok> yep - got to start somewhere I suppose
[06:00:35] <janrinok> I was hoping that I had picked a quiet time so as not to annoy people
[06:01:12] <halibut> Testing a separate connection? Client? Computer?
[06:01:43] <janrinok> I'm building a bot to automate story processing for editors
[06:01:58] <halibut> Cool.
[06:02:09] <janrinok> ... well that is the long term aim
[06:02:43] <janrinok> I've got it working on my local network but not over IRC - this all new to me
[06:03:05] <halibut> It was going so well, ... bot then it left.
[06:04:05] <janrinok> basically, we often just get a URL submitted, and I want to extract the story automatically using Arthur or upstart. Manually stripping out the html is a very time consuming job.
[06:04:36] <halibut> I can imagine.
[06:05:04] <janrinok> I'm just testing the PING/PONG responses so that the bot doesn't disconnect
[06:07:00] <janrinok> running it through Arthur or upstart means that it gets resubmitted and the submitter loses the karma so I'm looking for a better way of doing it. (I'll bet you are sorry you asked now.....)
[06:08:05] <janrinok> I suppose I ought to rename the bot too
