[00:58:43] <systemd> ^ 03In Tune With the Moon: Female Menstrual Cycle Influenced by Moonlight and Even the Moonโ€™s Gravity
[01:04:40] <AzumaHazuki> ooooh, speaking of, the moon was full yesterday and is close tonight. i love full moons <3
[01:04:51] <AzumaHazuki> i love just standing outside in the light when the sky's clear
[01:06:14] <Bytram> me too, 'cept we already got ~1 inch of rain today and it's still raining.

[01:10:01] <systemd> ^ 03Buffer overruns, license violations, and bad code: FreeBSD 13โ€™s close call
[01:10:54] <halibut> Highly skeptical of that article. I have heard of other species' reproductive cycles linked to the moon, but it is typically oceanic species, and based on nighttime lighting, I think (corals have an impressive one).
[01:11:48] <halibut> I believe lunar lighting could have an effect, but concerning gravity, I am skeptical. According to Wikipedia, the largest effect on the tides is the moon, which, as the earth turns, has a cycle of about 1 day.
[01:12:34] <halibut> The second largest effect is the alignment of sun and moon, which has a cycle of about half a month (moon and sun line up or are on opposite sides has similar effects).
[01:12:52] <halibut> Neither of those seems likely to drive something on a cycle of 1 month.
[01:13:31] <halibut> Not to mention, tides work because the gravitational effect on the scale of the Earth is significant. On the scale of a single human, not so much.
[01:18:48] <halibut> A quick Google search also suggests that most great apes have a longer menstrual cycle: Orangutangs are about 29 days, gorillas 30 to 32 days, bonobos 32 to 35 days, and chimpanzees around 37 days.
[01:19:16] <halibut> If the moon had a significant effect on humans, one might expect less spread in similar animals.
[01:23:44] <AzumaHazuki> my cycle isn't lunar-linked as far as i can tell. i just love moonlight
[01:23:49] <AzumaHazuki> it's pretty regular, though
[01:26:30] <halibut> One final point, and I'll be quiet: While I agree lunar light might have an effect, gravity seems highly unlikely, as the Moon's gravity at the surface of the Earth is about 3 millionths the strength of the Earth's. It seems unlikely humans are that sensitive.
[01:27:15] <halibut> I agree with the moonlight thing. Moonlight is pretty. It's also fun to just look at the moon, both on clear nights, and when clouds partially obscure it creating a really neat optical effect.
