[00:34:24] <Fnord666> Bytram, you there?
[00:40:43] <Fnord666> Disregard
[01:06:32] <Bytram> Fnord666: Not here, nope. ;)

[01:23:30] <Bytram> have a great night everybody!

[11:43:30] <cmn32480> how are we currently handling upstart dropping in the 3 paragraph summaries of studies with a citation?
[11:43:48] <cmn32480> do we have to pull pieces out for fair use? or can it be used as is?
[11:44:06] <cmn32480> ~gday janrinok
[11:44:07] * exec illegitimately instantiates trash can full of freedom for janrinok
[12:17:49] <Bytram> cmn32480: do you have a link?
[12:18:02] <Bytram> oh, and Good Morning!!!!!
[12:18:13] <Bytram> =gnu cmn32480
[12:18:14] * systemd transcendentally uninstalls a tablespoon of half-dead batteries from cmn32480
[12:18:30] <Bytram> 'es not dead yet!
[12:26:00] <Bytram> cmn32480: Ugh. Unfortunately, that one was actually too short to use. Happens very rarely -- you just got [un]lucky. :(
[12:29:41] <Bytram> Ideally, I try to aim for ~250-300 words, and less than, I dunno, 30% of a story. The longer the story we are starting with, the easier it is. For some, there's almost no hope unless there's a complete rewrite of the submission.
[12:33:33] <Bytram> break time
[12:34:02] <chromas> I was thinking it could just do three or so paragraphs to avoid infringement, then point at the scraped whole version somewhere secret so editors can copypasta and nobody complains
[12:43:29] -!- AzumaHazuki [AzumaHazuki!~hazuki@the.end.of.time] has joined #editorial
[12:56:52] <Bytram> chromas: the problem is the original was only 3 paragraphs to start with... Really hard to do only do an excerpt with so little to start with.

[12:57:18] <chromas> Sure, but there's usually moar
[12:57:47] <Bytram> yes, but not in this case, unfortunately, and cmn32480 was unsure what to do.
[12:57:55] * Bytram is rewriting it atm
[13:02:47] <chromas> When it's that short it probably doesn't matter. Hard to claim copyright on a couple paragraphs
[13:07:27] <Bytram> diagree.
[13:07:55] <Bytram> easier to prove infringement when the whole thing was quoted verbatim.
