[00:59:57] <Bytram> fyngyrz: nod nod... as I understand it, that came about because of issues with setting type back in the olden days... placing such a tiny piece of type within the quotes helped 'protect' it. OTOH, I've also heard that is an Americanism -- that the Brits, for example, subscribed to what you proposed at the outset... the period goes inside only if it is part of the quote.
[01:41:42] <Fnord666> evening all
[01:44:53] <Bytram> hiya!
[01:44:53] <chromas> g'day
[01:45:15] <Fnord666> How’s everyone this evening?
[01:45:39] <Bytram> a bit tired, but I have tomorrow off...
[01:45:51] <Bytram> with two appointments scheduled. ;/
[01:46:06] <Fnord666> ugh
[01:46:12] <Bytram> but only two more days after that and I have another day off!
[01:46:20] <Fnord666> yay
[01:46:40] <Bytram> still, I can at least sleep in a bit tomorrow instead of having to respond to the blaring of an alarmn

[01:48:01] * Bytram wishes there were a way to manually adjust the kerning of the letter 'r' so there is a tad more space following it and thereby more space preceding the next letter.
[01:48:09] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:48:16] <Bytram> rn m rn m rn m
[01:48:29] <Bytram> how many letters is that?
[01:49:18] <Bytram> r n m r n m r n m
[01:49:22] <Fnord666> 9
[01:49:31] <Bytram> same letters as before, but with extra space chars
[01:49:35] <Fnord666> yup
[01:49:57] <Fnord666> I guess it depends on the font you choose
[01:49:59] <Bytram> at first glance, though, it does not look like it would be
[01:50:07] <Bytram> true dat

[01:51:38] <Fnord666> interesting. Never seen it before
[01:51:57] <Bytram> Fnord666: besides finally, officially, breaking 2000 stories today, how are YOU doing? ;)
[01:52:06] <Fnord666> woo hoo!
[01:52:39] <Fnord666> I am doing well. Took the next couple of days off and just spending time with the wife.
[01:53:00] <Bytram> good for you (singular) and you (plural)
[01:53:34] * Bytram got the font from here: "http://unifoundry.com/pub/unifont-10.0.07/font-builds/unifont_upper_csur-10.0.07.ttf"

[01:58:59] <Bytram> thought you might find 'em interesting
[01:59:50] * Bytram tested SoylentNews' Unicode (UTF-8) support -- had a pressing need to find a font that superseded plain old ascii
[01:59:52] <Fnord666> downloaded them
[01:59:59] <Fnord666> good point
[02:01:47] <Fnord666> loaded it in xterminal
[02:01:51] <Fnord666> looks good
[02:02:11] <Bytram> =)
[02:02:45] <Fnord666> thanks
[02:02:53] <Bytram> not too artsy, not too blocky, decent character coverage, and... the price is right!

[02:03:52] <Bytram> aka bed time!
[02:05:09] <Bytram> Fnord666: but seriously, before I head off, just have to personally thank you for your determined and persistent story production. It is a *lot* of work, and I, for one, really appreciate it!
[02:05:36] * Fnord666 bows deeply
[02:05:49] * Bytram bows on a cello
[02:05:51] <Fnord666> thank you.
[02:06:38] <Bytram> no, thank YOU!
[02:07:06] <Bytram> okay, really got to call it a night. so good to 'see' you... have a great night!
[02:07:42] <Fnord666> ok. Pleasant dreams and I will talk to you later.

[23:27:47] <Bytram> atm, it appears that I may have had a bad breaker in my circuit breaker panel... got a couple outlets that went dead, and resetting the breaker has not helped. :(
[23:28:11] <Bytram> of course, that is the circuit on which I plug in my computer and monitor and printer
[23:28:34] <chromas> Just wedge a screwdriver in there
[23:29:14] <Bytram> I've run an extension cord to a different circuit for the time being, but it's pushing things as I only have 6 circuits in my entire apartment (plus one for the stove).
[23:31:43] * Bytram is currently unable to print anything atm
[23:32:06] <chromas> Is printing still a thing that exists?
[23:32:42] <Bytram> when completing taxes and submitting the forms... yep.
[23:33:10] <Bytram> also, my display is not *quite* as tall as several printed sheets of paper, either. =)
