[09:53:00] <SoyGuest64926> Oooh, the editorialising I added to the end of the story here would appear to be takyon's, not mine, that could confuse the readers (and me!): https://soylentnews.org

[11:57:29] <Bytram> LOL!
[11:58:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> yall don't let me disturb. i gots some CMA awards to watch cause i fell asleep before they came on last night.

[12:11:35] <chromas> It's not even real country music; just pop with a twang
[12:12:27] * Bytram likes pop... tarts
[12:12:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, yer not wrong for most of it. i listen for the rare bit of country goodness that still makes it out.
[12:12:35] * chromas authoritates
[12:12:43] <Bytram> oh, you mean like in: Shania Twang?
[12:12:49] <Bytram> ;)
[12:13:12] <Bytram> looks like I need to update the beg-o-meter... brb
[12:13:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> that n brad paisley. he's a funny, funny som bitch.
[12:13:49] <chromas> Need to fix that so its css isn't embedded
[12:14:04] <chromas> That way themes can change the graphs
[12:14:11] <Bytram> that would be *nice*
[12:14:28] <Bytram> even better would be for it to be computed automagically
[12:15:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> #smake Bytram
[12:15:06] * MrPlow smakes Bytram upside the head with Jared's 6" meatball sub
[12:15:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> you get right on coding that up, big-un.
[12:16:44] <Bytram> I'd be happy to, but I got the slight problem that my VM went toes-up cause it ran out of disk space and there was no way to increase the allocation
[12:17:01] <chromas> VirtualBox?
[12:17:04] <Bytram> nodnod
[12:17:27] <chromas> I think disk resizing requires a command line operation but it's definitely an option
[12:17:35] <Bytram> I mistakenly understood that the size of the vdisk it used was one-to-one with what it set up on theactual hardware.
[12:17:41] <Bytram> tried that
[12:17:55] <Bytram> ran into errors
[12:18:18] <chromas> Then you gotta boot it and resize the filesystem inside
[12:18:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, keep reminding me and i'll get a new vm built when i have time.
[12:18:38] <Bytram> had too much other stuff going on since that haven't made the time to set up a new VM, get an up-to-date image for the site, and all that.
[12:18:50] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: please remember to get a new VM built
[12:18:56] <Bytram> ^^ like that??
[12:18:59] <Bytram> ;)
[12:19:02] <Bytram> j/k
[12:19:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> you n xyem both need one. yes
[12:19:33] <Bytram> sorry, it was a family tradition growing up... whenever anyone asked to be reminded of something, well, you got it
[12:20:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> i grew up in the same sorta family.
[12:20:42] <Bytram> good for you
[12:20:47] <Bytram> seriously
[12:21:26] <Bytram> it was that wacky kind of humor which served to defuse many a situation, put a positive spin on things, and build a cohesive family. I was truly fortunate in that way.
[12:23:22] <Xyem> Is it likely to be set up before the 2018 bug bash?
[12:23:37] <Bytram> Xyem: !!
[12:23:53] <Bytram> haven't "seen" ya in ages.... things are good?
[12:24:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> Xyem, prolly. i think i can get it usable in like one or two more mornings of work.
[12:24:12] <Xyem> I was here, didn't notice I lost my nick (stopped being lazy and made my bouncer try to keep it)
[12:24:35] <Bytram> ahhh, that 'splains it
[12:24:37] <Xyem> Yeah, started a new job about 17 months later than I was actually needed
[12:24:41] <TheMightyBuzzard> just having time for a full morning's worth of work on it ain't easy currently.
[12:24:44] <Bytram> anyway -- glad you are still around!
[12:24:47] <Xyem> So pretty hectic at work right now :)
[12:25:07] <Bytram> at such times, I try and remind myself that "being busy beats being bored"
[12:41:54] <takyon> SoyGuest64926: I don't know if there is any confusion
[12:42:34] <takyon> I did that because you were posting your name was listed as the editor that posted the story and the person who submitted the story through MrPlow
[12:55:38] <SoyGuest64926> Should am editor not submit and edit a story?
[12:56:34] <takyon> bytram, what do you think?
[12:57:14] <SoyGuest64926> I'd already read one version of the story and done some hunting around, so I felt it would be easy to slap together a good first pass. There's always a second pass to remove individual bias, in theory.
[12:58:06] <Bytram> in general, we try to avoid cases where an editor accepts and pushes out their own submission... unless there are extenuating circumstances such as a breaking story or sub queue is (effectively) empty AND story queue is empty AND no other editors are around
[12:59:12] <takyon> I gave it the once over, added some new topics, corrected some spelling, added a link, and then swapped my name in as the editor (a little known feature?)
[12:59:21] <Bytram> even then, the community generally suggests they would prefer fewer stories to pushing out junky stories to meet a schedule of x stories per day.
[12:59:53] <takyon> it's not a junk story, I considered submitting it myself but forgot
[13:00:04] <Bytram> not saying this one was....
[13:00:14] <Bytram> I meant there might actually be some stories in the sub queue,
[13:00:48] <Bytram> but none of which (in the editor's opinion) are worth running (be very careful there) and there is nothing pending in the story queue
[13:01:40] <Bytram> so story queue is empty, looks like nothing barely even good in the sub queue, no other editor around... well, you gotta do what you gotta do, but is best to make sure you really *gotta* do it.
[13:01:44] <takyon> I'm going to change it to FatPhil writes since the MrPlow info is no longer important since a comment was added
[13:01:53] <Bytram> works for me
[13:01:56] <Bytram> =)
[13:02:52] <takyon> ok now it is comprehensively edited

[13:05:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> he ain't got supa powah
[13:05:36] <Bytram> is a drop-down-list box, not a text-entry-field
[13:05:39] <takyon> it's a dropdown, not a text input
[13:06:09] <takyon> of course you could just grant MrPlow editor status and that would solve that problem

[13:11:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> what about swordfish?
[13:11:25] <takyon> it's always swordfish
[13:11:31] <Bytram> now *that* is a pointed reparte'
[13:11:50] <chromas> That's vulnerable to the gun-pointed-at-hacker's-head attack
[13:12:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> reminds me. i priced the old "$5 wrench". it's now like $40+.
[13:12:54] <Bytram> at least the hacker then knows it has been compromised, as opposed to a device that may have been compromised leaving no hint of a breach
[13:12:57] <takyon> depends on the wrench

[13:13:48] <TheMightyBuzzard> was out at a hardware store looking for a good splitting maul. even the cheap beatin-wrenches wasn't cheap no mo.

[13:16:31] <Bytram> many years ago, my dad picked up a splitting maul head at a garage sale for a couple bucks, cleaned up and sharpened the blade, and put a 3-foot+ handle on it

[13:18:49] <Bytram> never tried one of those... looked, um, promising but was still skeptical
