[03:47:55] <MrPlow> Submitting. There is a mandatory delay, please be patient.
[03:48:16] <cmn32480> ~gday fnord
[03:48:17] * exec sardonically separates a whiff of art supplies from fnord
[03:48:20] <MrPlow> Submission successful. https://soylentnews.org
[03:48:28] <Fnord666_> ~gday cmn32480
[03:48:30] * exec dexterously slides a json representation of TempleOS to cmn32480
[03:48:40] <cmn32480> how you been?
[03:48:49] <Fnord666_> And how are you this eve?
[03:48:58] <Fnord666_> I’ve been well, thanks for asking.
[03:49:03] <cmn32480> I'm currently in a hotel in Chicago
[03:49:22] <cmn32480> so reasonable, but not in my own bed unfortunately
[03:49:35] <Fnord666_> nothing beats your home bed
[03:49:42] <cmn32480> amen
[03:49:50] <Fnord666_> but at least it’s not January in Chicago
[03:49:52] <cmn32480> largely 'cuz my wife is in it next to me
[03:49:58] <cmn32480> that is also a plus
[03:50:02] <Fnord666_> bonus!
[03:50:38] <cmn32480> my company does have a habit of sending me North in Winter (think Quebec in February) and south (think Mobile, AL) in Summer
[03:50:51] <Fnord666_> nice
[03:51:06] <cmn32480> so I'm either frozen or melting
[03:51:35] <Fnord666_> not really the way you want the average to work out
[03:51:40] <cmn32480> ummm... no
[03:51:55] <cmn32480> but at least for the moment, it pays the bills
[03:52:02] <Fnord666_> there is that
[03:52:37] <cmn32480> but enough about me
[03:52:42] <cmn32480> glad you've been doing well
[03:52:49] <cmn32480> anythign interesting going on?
[03:52:50] <Fnord666_> thanks
[03:54:18] <Fnord666_> not too much really. I work with credit card transaction processing systems, so we typically stabilize the code going into the upcoming holiday season
[03:54:45] <cmn32480> ah yes... the "No new Variables during the busy season" rule
[03:55:03] <Fnord666_> so final bits of new development are being released
[03:55:08] <Fnord666_> exactly
[03:56:08] <cmn32480> I have a buddy that works for a large home improvement retailer in their software dept, and they don't push any changes between march and like october 1
[03:56:11] <Fnord666_> after that it’s just keep the shop running and start planning for the next year.
[03:56:31] <cmn32480> so it is the quiet time for you
[03:56:32] <Fnord666_> Makes sense given their busy time
[03:56:37] <cmn32480> that's good
[03:56:50] <Fnord666_> yes, going into our quiet time as far as changes go.
[03:57:16] <Fnord666_> Time to start the negotiations for who’s going to do what when after the new year
[03:57:18] * cmn32480 keeps waiting for the quiet time
[03:58:10] <Fnord666_> midnight to 6am?
[03:58:14] <cmn32480> lol
[03:58:19] <cmn32480> usually
[03:58:27] <Fnord666_> that’s good at least.
[03:58:42] <cmn32480> I was thinking more along the lines of being home for 5 days in a row
[03:59:05] <Fnord666_> how much of the year do they have you on the road?
[03:59:49] <cmn32480> I looked at my calendar the other week and figured out that I ahven't slept 5 consecutive week nights in my own bed but once since June 30
[04:00:20] <cmn32480> tongiht actually puts me at 60 nights out for hte year
[04:00:25] <Fnord666_> well that sounds like no fun
[04:00:53] * cmn32480 agrees whole-heartedly
[04:01:24] <cmn32480> it pays the bills
[04:01:31] <cmn32480> at least for now
[04:01:44] <Fnord666_> for now
[04:02:16] <cmn32480> at some point I'll get fed up and force a major change or change jobs
[04:02:43] <cmn32480> damn wirless in this hotel keeps dropping the IRC connection
[04:02:51] <Fnord666_> hmmm
[04:03:00] <Fnord666_> I don’t see you drop off on this side.
[04:03:11] <cmn32480> znc
[04:03:25] <cmn32480> keeps dropping my connection to the bouncere
[04:04:19] <cmn32480> it is probably a sing that I ought to go to bed
[04:04:43] <Fnord666_> probably
[04:04:55] <Fnord666_> I forgot you routed through znc
[04:05:01] <cmn32480> yeah
[04:05:14] <Fnord666_> hey quick question. https://irc.soylentnews.org
[04:05:15] <upstart> ^ 03Postfix Admin - irc.soylentnews.org ( login.php )
[04:05:16] <cmn32480> some folks have problems with it, but mine has always worked (mostly) flawlessly
[04:05:33] <Fnord666_> shouldn’t that go to the web client?
[04:06:04] <cmn32480> https://chat.soylentnews.org
[04:06:05] <upstart> ^ 03SoylentNews Web IRC (Iris)
[04:06:15] <Fnord666_> ah, that’s what I missed
[04:06:26] <Fnord666_> thanks
[04:06:29] <cmn32480> irc.sn.org actually goes to a postfix page that I think points to the mail server
[04:06:41] <Fnord666_> kept getting a postfix admin login page
[04:06:57] <Fnord666_> yup
[04:07:06] <cmn32480> not sure who controls that DNS record.
[04:10:08] <Fnord666_> so are you home for the weekend at least?
[04:10:16] <cmn32480> as a general rule, yes
[04:10:26] <cmn32480> but that leasds to me getting a "Honey Do" list
[04:10:32] <cmn32480> so no real down time
[04:10:57] <Fnord666_> yeah, there’s that.
[04:11:40] <cmn32480> only plus to working the weekend is that we generally get compensated for it
[04:11:52] <cmn32480> and not in vacation days that we will never use
[04:13:25] <Fnord666_> yeah, I’ve had those before
[04:14:07] <cmn32480> I got to a point where one of our larger customers went to the owners and point blank asked how we were compensated for weekend work.
[04:14:28] <cmn32480> there was a mad scramble to come up with an answer that was satisfactory to the customer
[04:15:11] <Fnord666_> nice
[04:15:20] <cmn32480> helped me out
[04:15:29] <Fnord666_> i bet
[04:15:54] <cmn32480> short version is that we bill at time and a half, and I get to keep the half
[04:16:22] <Fnord666_> half the company’s billable rate? nice!
[04:16:50] <cmn32480> yeah
[04:16:58] <cmn32480> 1/3
[04:18:46] <cmn32480> anyway
[04:18:52] <cmn32480> I think it's time for me to pass out
[04:19:01] <cmn32480> have a good night Fnord666_
[04:19:27] <Fnord666_> you too. pleasant dreams
[04:19:36] <cmn32480> thanks.
[04:19:39] <cmn32480> Same to you!
[04:19:43] <cmn32480> ~gnight Fnord666_
[04:19:44] <Fnord666_> thanks
[04:19:45] * exec cautiously impales a tumbleweed of peanut butter & pickle sandwiches on Fnord666_
[04:19:51] <Fnord666_> ~gnight cmn32480
[04:19:53] * exec faithfully violates an ExFAT volume of cowbell with cmn32480
[04:20:18] <Fnord666_> yum, snacks

[23:49:18] <mrpg> Hi. Do we like the st nicholas submission?
[23:50:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> archeology? i'm kinda interested at least.
[23:50:57] <mrpg> yes
[23:51:25] <mrpg> but "kinda" is half a vote of a non editor so no.
[23:52:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> "kinda" puts it in the more interesting half =P
[23:52:38] * TheMightyBuzzard breaks tradition and just Rs TFA
[23:52:57] <mrpg> so you say that's like 0.6
[23:53:28] <TheMightyBuzzard> yup. which == 1 if we're rounding.
[23:53:47] <mrpg> hahaha, no, im talking about statistics so it stays at 0.6
[23:54:17] <mrpg> ok, mainpage/random I'll do it.
[23:54:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> yar. it's science bout a famous dude. might as well.
[23:59:32] <mrpg> ready.
