[00:00:48] <charon_> how goes it, fellow underscore nickname?
[00:41:33] <n1_> it goes
[00:41:38] <n1_> sorry ran to the store before it closed
[00:41:47] <n1_> how is charon_
[00:44:32] * n1_ drinks from his 250ml bottle of coke
[00:45:03] <n1_> pretending i'm on a plane... should have paid $5 for it
[00:49:10] <charon_> lol
[00:49:44] <charon_> i'm alright. tired though. we're into busy season when i have to work at work
[00:52:41] <n1_> well thats not the idea, you should convince the boss to hire you an assistant for the busy season
[00:52:46] <charon_> just sent out a truck with firm and explicit instructions that it must be back by closing time in 1hr 8min. we'll see how that comes out
[00:52:55] <n1_> can't have work cutting into your slacking off
[00:53:16] <n1_> well that's a short term hire
[00:53:16] <charon_> thank you! i am so glad someone sees it my way
[00:53:36] <cmn32480> did you give it a ghost ridden rototiller too?
[00:53:51] <charon_> nope, no need for that today
[00:54:31] <charon_> ~gday cmn32480
[00:54:32] * exec $adverb steals a gift of Jesus Juice from cmn32480
[00:54:47] <cmn32480> ~gday charon_
[00:54:49] * exec single-handedly mixes The Cloud of santorum with charon_
[00:56:49] <charon_> n1: yeah, the trucks are by the hour, not the day. they are there to get people to buy stuff like mulch and drywall that won't fit in a car
[00:57:34] <cmn32480> at $19.95 for the first 75 minutes... it isn't too bad if you run home and come back... but they gotta be a loss on the whole
[00:58:04] <n1_> i remember seeing some hire options like that in the UK
[00:58:10] <n1_> hire a truck or van by the hour
[00:58:20] <n1_> but the math never worked for me on it
[00:58:40] <n1_> hire by the hour for like £10 or hire by the day for £20
[00:59:16] <n1_> but i can see it being convenient in some situations
[00:59:30] <cmn32480> but if all you need is to run home some cabinets or drywall or whatever... it is easy
[01:00:19] <n1_> but the i've always had large cars with roof bars too, so it had to be pretty serious before i'd get a truck
[01:00:28] * cmn32480 wonders if working on the chain saw and the mower before going to my Mother in law's tomorrow will make me smell liek gasoline and get people to leave me the f**k alone...
[01:00:37] <charon_> yeah, it's the jokers who keep it all day and find out it cost them $160 who get a bad deal
[01:00:49] <n1_> and in those situations i'd usually be running around to half a dozen suppliers, taking up most of the day
[01:01:20] <n1_> cmn32480, sounds like a plan
[01:01:48] <n1_> sweat, gas and grass will help people keep their distance
[01:01:51] <cmn32480> n1_ - I am going to try it
[01:01:55] <charon_> cmn32480: yeah, as i understand it the trucks do lose money, but if they induce other sales, it's good for the store
[01:02:05] <cmn32480> exactly
[01:02:25] <cmn32480> magneto and plugs for the chainsaw came in yesterday
[01:02:38] <n1_> charon_, does your shop to delivery for the hire stuff?
[01:03:11] <cmn32480> his shop is one of the larger home improvement retailers in the nation
[01:03:17] <charon_> no delivery of the tools. the store does deliver construction materials though
[01:03:48] <n1_> guess i was spoiled in the UK
[01:04:06] <n1_> used to be able to get delivery of hire equipment and materials
[01:04:23] <n1_> although that causes issues sometimes when the delivery window is all day and you need to get work done
[01:04:36] <n1_> and then some stuff you have is too big, so it comes on another truck
[01:04:44] <n1_> always get the least important shit first
[01:04:49] <charon_> even huge stuff like excavators and bobcats, you bring a vehicle ready to tow it
[01:05:23] <cmn32480> yup
[01:05:28] <cmn32480> most places are like that
[01:06:02] <n1_> generally the opposite in the UK, pretty much all major hire places will deliver and then collect
[01:06:17] <charon_> that said, supposedly the corporate brains are thinking about adding delivery as a service, but i'm betting they will not find it economical
[01:06:27] <n1_> even down to the scaffold boards you're hiring for $1 a day
[01:07:01] <charon_> interesting. extra fees for that? or part of the basic price?
[01:07:35] <n1_> basic price, but usually it's within a radius of the place you're hiring from
[01:08:05] <n1_> but it does create odd situations sometimes, if say you've hired a scissor lift... you call them up to take it off hire and for them to collect
[01:08:13] <charon_> makes sense. but still, you could have a guy busy all day doing just that
[01:08:20] <n1_> ends up being there for 2 weeks, until someone else hires it and they then pick it up to take it straight to the next person
[01:08:32] <charon_> lol
[01:08:49] <n1_> they dont have the storage space to put everything, so they just leave it until they need it
[01:08:51] <n1_> or you complain enough
[01:09:21] <n1_> but for me it worked out a few times, using stuff left behind by other contractors that was already off hire and their jobs had been finished
[01:09:34] <charon_> at least they're not charging you anymore. hopefully
[01:09:53] <n1_> yeah, you do have to make sure you call to take it off hire
[01:10:26] <n1_> usually it's open ended, so even if you've said i want it for 7 days, they dont action that until you tell them to come pick it up tomorrow
[01:11:00] <charon_> the main reason we can't do delivery is because to open the rental contract we must have a credit card deposit. and we can't take that over the phone. customer must physically insert the card
[01:13:08] <n1_> yeah, that's not unusual, but for me it's only been a one time thing to go there
[01:13:20] <n1_> then you have an account open so they dont care anymore
[01:14:20] <charon_> put 10 chainsaws on my tab
[01:14:49] <n1_> something like that
[01:18:09] <cmn32480> saw my first alaskan giant malamute today
[01:18:10] <cmn32480> http://nebula.wsimg.com
[01:18:31] <charon_> holy crap, get away from that bear
[01:18:58] <cmn32480> iknowright???
[01:19:04] <cmn32480> fucker was huge
[01:19:12] <n1_> wow
[01:19:19] <cmn32480> had to be 120-140lbs
[01:19:32] <cmn32480> that isn't the one I saw.. but it was a similar size
[01:20:08] <charon_> so you're getting one?
[01:20:21] <cmn32480> thing sat and the top of his head was about mid chest height on the girl walking him
[01:20:24] <cmn32480> hell no
[01:20:30] <cmn32480> it'd probably eat my kids
[01:21:04] <cmn32480> though... ther is some benefit to that
[01:21:16] <n1_> took a minute for the cogs to turn there
[01:21:48] <charon_> lol
[01:22:02] <cmn32480> but their puppies are totally adorable...
[01:22:30] <charon_> i am not a dog fan, and something that big is undoubtedly really clumsy too
[01:22:51] <charon_> and the projectile drool...
[01:23:06] <cmn32480> you know where those dogs go right?
[01:23:14] <cmn32480> any damn place they choose
[01:23:32] <n1_> dogs are great, but big dogs have more drawbacks than benefits in my opinion
[01:24:38] <cmn32480> used to have 2
[01:24:41] <cmn32480> chow mixes
[01:25:21] <cmn32480> both were mutts
[01:26:11] <cmn32480> one was a chow shepperd... 55lbs
[01:26:23] <cmn32480> other was a chow golden retreiver... - 80lbs
[01:26:54] <charon_> uh. aren't chows small things? trying not to picture the breeding logistics
[01:27:01] <n1_> i'm not a fan of purebreds, people get too into the status thing with having them, and then they become a commodity for people to breed and not take care of them
[01:27:02] <cmn32480> no
[01:27:05] <n1_> because they can make some $$$
[01:27:41] <cmn32480> Weight Male 55–70 lb (25–32 kg)[1]
[01:27:41] <cmn32480> Female 45–60 lb (20–27 kg)[1]
[01:27:49] <cmn32480> n1_, agreed
[01:27:54] <cmn32480> above is for a chow
[01:28:11] <charon_> ok, not bad then
[01:28:35] <cmn32480> pretty big
[01:28:39] <charon_> not like a greyhound/dachshund
[01:28:43] <cmn32480> but hairy as hell
[01:30:27] <charon_> great dane/chihuahua
[01:31:57] <cmn32480> jebus... puppies are $500 to $1000+
[01:32:22] <n1_> as i said cmn32480, $$$
[01:32:30] <n1_> or $$$$
[01:32:43] <n1_> personally, i will never pay for a dog, only adopt
[01:33:19] <cmn32480> I agree
[01:35:30] <charon_> i knew a woman with a purebred english bulldog. poor thing had so many congenital problems, it lived only about 5 years, and at the vet half the time
[01:36:43] <n1_> :(
[01:38:03] <charon_> yeah, it was sad. that breed in particular is notorious for having a ton of medical issues
[01:38:18] <cmn32480> mutts are typically healthier... and often better adjusted
[01:45:28] <n1_> yup
[01:46:18] <n1_> my parents dogs are mutts, they're much closer to wild than domesticated too
[01:46:36] <n1_> but they're extremely healthy as they're well looked after as well as having generations of natural selection
[01:51:15] <charon_> good news, the young lady brought the truck back in time
[01:51:50] <n1_> did you draw a smiley face on the invoice as a reward?
[01:51:50] <cmn32480> she taking you home next?
[01:51:58] <n1_> lol
[01:52:04] <n1_> that's a step up...
[01:52:27] * cmn32480 has just uncovered a hereto unknown cache of floyy disk games
[01:52:34] <charon_> no and no. her friend was cute though. but they're college kids. kinda icky

[01:56:10] <charon_> i have an assload of old CD games stored away. haven't looked at them in years
[01:56:49] <charon_> maybe even a few on floppy, though i don't have a floppy drive anymore
[01:57:10] <cmn32480> I have a floppy drive.. but I don't think it is hooked up or functional
[01:57:23] * cmn32480 knows he has a couple USB ones at the office
[01:58:38] <charon_> even if i did have one, no motherboards have IDE sockets anymore
[01:58:43] <charon_> stupid technology
[02:03:39] <n1_> always the option of an ide pci or usb converter
[02:03:59] <charon_> yeah. maybe
[02:04:31] <charon_> easier to pirate at this point (shhh)
[02:06:00] * cmn32480 has found several old cases of CD games
[02:06:27] <charon_> time to leave work. catch you on the flip side
[02:06:51] -!- charon_ has quit [Quit: warez king]
[02:06:52] <n1_> just had a look-see on ebay, pretty cool actually... a pci-e card with 1x ide, 1x sata and 1x e-sata for $10
[02:07:57] <n1_> cmn32480, going to give your kids a chance to experience some classic games, how they were suppose to be played?
[02:08:36] <cmn32480> i don't ahve a 386 that will crash every 30 seconds anymore....
[02:09:34] <cmn32480> but I hope I can show them the good old days
[02:09:57] <Bytram> hi guys...

[02:34:51] <charon> oh no, i forgot to lay in a stock of hot cross buns
