[05:14:10] <Fnord666> hey charon
[05:14:19] <Fnord666> been busy I see.
[05:14:42] <charon> bored at work, y'know
[05:14:57] <Fnord666> I guess!
[05:15:43] <Fnord666> I figured there would be a bunch to do when I got home today.
[05:16:05] <charon> heh, sorry to steal your work
[05:16:10] <Fnord666> instead the subs queue is empty almost and the story queue is full
[05:16:24] <Fnord666> I know, you just want to cement your position on the HOF.
[05:16:28] <Fnord666> :)
[05:16:33] <charon> still a few subs. but most of them are the ones no one wants to touch

[05:19:16] <nick> takyon's sub is good
[05:19:28] <nick> still not used to this keyboard
[05:21:14] <nick> my opinion on this trump story is, i'd believe it, but i think there's some deep bs on the russia focus... i'm sure trump has some some shit in hotels bugged by other intelligence services
[05:31:01] <Fnord666> Interesting. The USAToday article claims multiple news sources have had this info for months but didn't run it since it was unsubstantiated.
[05:31:18] <Fnord666> These days that hasn't seemed like much of a deterrent for MSM
[05:31:54] <Fnord666> And I can't see that not being leaked to the Dems at least.
[05:32:04] <Fnord666> during the election cycle
[05:33:42] <nick> well it's verified unverified now because 'US officials' have made comments on how potentially damaging it is
[05:33:58] <nick> 'Trump was told in the intelligence briefing that Russia also had compromising financial information about him, a US official told the Associated Press. '
[05:44:37] <Fnord666> charon - We heard from Bytram?
[05:49:10] <charon> Fnord666, cmn32480 got a reply from his text. bytram is ok, still in hospital

[05:50:26] <Fnord666> Not badly enough to amputate I hope?
[05:53:22] <charon> i believe not. cmn probably would have said if so
[05:53:49] <charon> he made the joke that we couldn't call bytram lefty, so i guess that was a no

[18:45:56] <janrinok> ~gday nick
[18:45:57] * exec provocatively irritates 40 gallons worth of buttleak with nick
[18:46:07] <nick> howdy janrinok
[18:46:38] <janrinok> how's things?
[18:47:26] <nick> not great today, brain isn't working properly
[18:47:29] <nick> you?
[18:49:35] <janrinok> had a busy day yesterday with various appts for S but taking it (relatively) easy today. We had a visit from a regional surveyor who has confirmed that we actually own more land that we thought. Fences are misplaced and someone has built his garden shed partly on my land. All resolved amicably but the land has been remarked to comply with local legal requirements
[18:52:26] <janrinok> for legal reasons I had to accompany the surveyor to witness the re-marking and to discuss the boundary encroachments with our neighbours. 3 hours it took, but very interesting.
[18:53:11] <nick> yeah, i know how that goes
[18:53:17] <nick> glad it all went reasonably well
[18:54:24] <nick> where my parents live, there was some boundary shit like that, fence in the wrong place, too far into someone elses land, wall technically being in the road
[18:54:48] <janrinok> the biggest problem was where our land butts onto a farmers field - he had gradually moved the boundary several meters to his benefit, affecting 3 other properties
[18:54:55] <nick> but nothing compared to a friend of theirs, their house got built on the wrong plot...
[18:54:59] <janrinok> lol
[18:55:31] <nick> and they're still trying to deal with it, it's apparently fairly simple to remedy, but they're refusing to pay the lawyers fee
[18:55:49] <nick> saying the builder should do it, even though the builder disappeared off the face of the earth 2 or 3 years ago
[18:55:55] <janrinok> I'm not sure that you can ever win arguing with lawyers
[18:56:48] <nick> just people being stubborn
[18:57:20] <janrinok> our surveryor read the riot-act to the farmer's representative, and will insert some huge day-glo boundary posts tomorrow am just to ensure that he cannot mistake the boundary again
[18:57:21] <nick> seems stupid to me arguing over a thousand dollars or so in lawyers fees, when the ownership of your $$$,$$$ property is at risk
[18:57:41] <nick> especially when you're arguing with someone who essentially doesn't exist anymore
[18:57:54] <janrinok> yup, but equally I can understand not wanting to pay for someone else's mistake
[18:58:08] <janrinok> but if he has gone, you've already lost that battle
[18:58:28] <nick> when your house is built in the wrong place, there's enough responsibility to share there when it comes to due diligence
[18:58:56] <janrinok> you'd think that someone would have noticed rather earlier than they apparently did
[18:58:59] <nick> janrinok, is good it didn't crate a neighbour from hell situation
[18:59:42] <janrinok> went out of my way not to. Told those who were technically wrong to leave things as they are as long as they acknowledge my ownership of the land. everyone seemed happy
[19:00:15] <nick> i'm guessing you can live without more yard work for now
[19:00:17] <janrinok> and the farmer lost a couple of meters on a large field
[19:00:24] <janrinok> yup ** 2
[19:00:54] * janrinok notes that nick is also speaking 'murican now too
[19:01:41] <nick> too much time talking to 'mericans on the internet, my word choices sway between 'merican and 'nglish

[19:03:39] <janrinok> I hope you said that in a very loud voice while wearing equally loud clothing!
[19:04:14] <janrinok> time for tea
[19:04:27] <nick> i do have some new clothes since being here, which are louder than my usual mix of grey and black
[19:08:35] <janrinok> you have to blend in...
[19:10:31] <nick> there's plenty of option for that... so many 'local' sweatshirts/tshirts etc on sale about bring born and bred in the area/state
[19:11:03] <nick> and you can buy an 'merican flag in all sorts of sizes in as many places
[19:15:50] <janrinok> careful, or we might not let you back into Europe again ...

[22:41:37] <charon_> while at work, that is
[22:42:07] <Fnord666> right
[22:42:48] <Fnord666> makes sense unless you rent snow plows
[22:43:03] <charon_> i suppose i could fix something... i have all the parts needed to repair a saw
[22:44:26] <Fnord666> Interesting. So you do repairs on the equipment also?
[22:45:13] <charon_> yes, though it's not really in the job description
[22:45:20] <Fnord666> it never is
[22:45:38] <charon_> we have a mechanic on staff who's supposed to do it, but he also fixes machines for customers
[22:45:48] <Fnord666> when in doubt it came back that way.
[22:46:04] <charon_> so he's gotten in the habit of not maintining the rental fleet because he's "too busy"
[22:46:16] <Fnord666> riiiight
[22:46:33] <charon_> exactly
[22:46:51] <charon_> so i do simple stuff that does not involve engines
[22:47:20] <Fnord666> why not right?
[22:47:27] <Fnord666> Gets it back in service
[22:47:44] <charon_> and some fucking complex bullshit too, on occasion. but i don't know enough about engines to really mess with them
[22:48:42] <charon_> one thing that's on my to do list involves taking about 2/3 of a stump grinder apart to get to the section that needs replacement
[22:49:13] <charon_> you can't take off this bolt because this housing is in the way, which in turn is blocked by that other part. ad nauseum
[22:49:17] <Fnord666> 5 minutes for the part, 2 hours for the disassembly and reassembly
[22:49:46] <Fnord666> but it went together easy enough on the production line!
[22:49:46] <charon_> ayep
[22:49:56] <charon_> lol, those robots are sharp
[22:51:12] <Fnord666> probably pay some union guy $30/hr to screw those 3 bolts in
[22:51:37] <charon_> well if he can do it while everything else is put together, he's a better man than i
[22:52:43] <Fnord666> no they make his life easy adn the parts aren't there yet because a new engine is a sale
[22:54:13] <Fnord666> The manufacturer doesn't get anything probably from the labor when they have to take everything off.
[22:54:46] <Fnord666> The nagain my tinfoil hat is probably too tight tonight.
[22:55:21] <charon_> nah, you may be right. on both counts
[22:56:12] <Fnord666> at least if a design decision means going one way or the other for the manufacturer, the manufacturer is going to win
[22:57:27] <charon_> i have seen some really weird choices of bolt placement. it's like they have no idea it might ever need to be disassembled
[23:01:43] <Fnord666> yup like the second most common bolt on an engine, installed before the engine goes into the frame. Once in there it's right behind a frame flange
[23:10:30] <Fnord666> back in a bit. dinner's ready
