[04:20:53] <Fnord666> Starcraft I think was just doing something new where they were making an API available that would be essentially what a normal player sees and can do.
[04:21:19] <Fnord666> It was to allow others to develop their own AIs and compete in tournaments.

[04:22:07] <Fnord666> Some AIs are just programmed with greater game or board knowledge than a player gets.
[04:22:20] <charon> that knows everything, has no fog of war, and can click much faster than a human
[04:22:40] <Fnord666> Fog of War is a very common place where you see this, yes.
[04:23:22] <Fnord666> Plus the API will allow everyone competing to be on equal footing without having to release or reveal internal workings of the game.
[04:25:42] <Fnord666> There used to be a game called CRobots where you programmed your robot's logic in a reduced set of the C programming language. The arena provided function calls for whatever you wanted to do and your robot acted or reacted according to your code.
