[00:05:17] <Deucalion> Bytram|away, I particularly do not trust my work provided phone and laptop. The laptop has had the black tape treatment, the phone... well that's just toxic, it has all manner of location tracking sw running on it. To further tweak my paranoid senses, I noted when I connected the company laptop to my main SSID at home the HDD light would flicker every time I visited a website on another device on the same SSID. Moved it off to another segrega
[00:05:17] <Deucalion> ted dirty SSID and that behaviour stopped. Nice to know your employer is snooping on your home wlan activity!
[00:07:41] <audioguy> Oh, I would take that situtation as a fun challenge to feed them bad information :-)
[00:13:47] <Deucalion> When time allows I intend to join something else to the dirty SSID and sniff out exactly what that laptop is sending out when the other device does some net activity. Can't be charged for system / network interference for just sniffing traffic on your on WLAN :D
[00:15:54] <audioguy> What is your default route? A wired connection?
[00:18:12] <audioguy> Actually tcpdump on your own laptop show show you ll activity on all interfaces. Wireless works like the old 'hubs' so should be able to see anything on the wireless net, I think.
[00:21:25] <Deucalion> Depends which device... some default route to wired, others are WLAN only so default route to that. The co. laptop is now on it's own dirty SSID, so all I need to do is connect a sacrificial lamb to that SSID and capture everything with tcpdump / wireshark or whatever and I should be able to see what the co. laptop is up to.
[00:21:52] <Deucalion> Fucking freaked me out when I noticed it though
[00:22:17] <audioguy> Yeah, things like that can also mean hacked machines
[00:22:54] <audioguy> IS the laptop windows? IT has tcpdump, may have to get admin tools or something to have it though
[00:28:57] <Deucalion> The co. laptop is Win7 - I'll not be installing anything on that. I'll use another device with wlan set to promiscuous mode to snarf everything off the wlan SSID. Not sure it will reveal much because as soon as the co. laptop gets an internet connection it fires up a VPN connection and routes everything over that back to the mothership.
[00:30:04] <Deucalion> I should be able to do basic correlations though - e.g. access a site on sacrificial lamb,,,, see burst of traffic from co. laptop to mothership.
[00:31:05] <audioguy> I understand you aren't free to install something, it is possible it is already there - worth a check maybe.
[00:31:36] <audioguy> If the disk drive was going it may be just saving it all to disk
[00:32:02] <audioguy> Could also be some sort of security checking.
[00:33:07] <Deucalion> Maybe... anyways, I'm no longer letting it loose on my main SSID that I use for personal stuff.
[00:33:20] <audioguy> Good plan.
