[02:04:35] <cmn32480> queue is good though midnight UTC tomorrow
[02:04:37] <Bytram> looks like quite the marathon you put in story-wise
[02:04:45] <cmn32480> lotta help from Arthur
[02:04:46] <Bytram> I noticed! :)
[02:04:58] * Bytram never saw that movie
[02:05:07] <cmn32480> you dind't miss much
[02:05:18] <cmn32480> however, I was referring to Arthur T. KNcakerbracket
[02:05:32] <cmn32480> but I spelled it right in the byline
[02:05:33] <Bytram> from what I saw of the trailers, I suspected it was not as good as it was portrayed.
[02:05:37] <Bytram> nod nod
[02:05:44] <Bytram> how was your day?
[02:05:50] <cmn32480> I was thinking of the cartoon my kids used to watch
[02:05:59] <cmn32480> quiet Sunday.
[02:06:03] <cmn32480> put in the new microwave
[02:06:04] <Bytram> which one?
[02:06:07] <cmn32480> edited some storiesd
[02:06:16] <cmn32480> Arthur
[02:06:18] <Bytram> you put the kids in the microwave, and that is a QUIET sunday?
[02:06:23] <Bytram> yeeesh!
[02:06:27] <cmn32480> after the screaming stopped
[02:06:33] <cmn32480> yes, it was quiet
[02:06:37] <Bytram> Yoinks!
[02:06:43] <cmn32480> you asked for it!
[02:06:57] <Bytram> man, you got me good with that one!
[02:07:02] <Bytram> needed a good laugh -- thanks!
[02:07:07] <cmn32480> glad I could help
[02:07:13] * Bytram checks his schedule
[02:07:33] <cmn32480> luagh 9:07-9:08pm
[02:07:35] <Bytram> next day off isn't until thursday
[02:07:39] <cmn32480> yick
[02:07:47] <cmn32480> but that is the Christmas season
[02:07:52] <cmn32480> can't say you dind't warn us
[02:07:54] <Bytram> nod nod
[02:08:19] <Bytram> had some good sales today; was about to clock out and a customer asked me for help
[02:08:28] <cmn32480> excellent
[02:08:32] <Bytram> I so wanted to blow her off, but said to myself "what hte heck"
[02:08:37] <cmn32480> hope they bought a commishioned item
[02:08:52] <Bytram> she was looking at some inexpensive, diamond-accent, hoop earrings
[02:09:09] <cmn32480> ok
[02:09:14] <Bytram> (diamond-accent == tiny rose-cut, nodescript stones that test as having a diamond's structure)
[02:09:24] <Bytram> then her sister showed up
[02:09:34] <Bytram> who reminded her that she had wanted some studs
[02:09:38] <cmn32480> adn the two of them are waiting for you to get off the computer?
[02:09:38] <Bytram> diamond studs, that is
[02:09:52] <Bytram> so I led them over to that case.
[02:10:00] <cmn32480> 12 carats later....
[02:10:06] <Bytram> ended up buying some 3/4 cttw near-colorless screwback diamond studs.
[02:10:13] <Bytram> biggest sale of the day for me
[02:10:21] <cmn32480> nice :-)
[02:10:38] <Bytram> okay, so the clarity was about I1 or I2, but they were nice earrings.
[02:10:45] <Bytram> she left happy, and me, too!
[02:10:56] <cmn32480> but I take it they are NOT waiting for you to get off the computer?
[02:11:19] <Bytram> nope, I don't get on the computer -- I try to sit in front of it. :D
[02:11:44] <cmn32480> and ZING in return
[02:11:49] <Bytram> this is like the pro-bowl, world series for us
[02:12:10] <Bytram> all the rest of the year is prep to be able to thrive during this season.
[02:12:30] <cmn32480> understood
[02:12:34] <Bytram> of course, this morning, I had one person who was new to the dept, and two others with less than a week's experience, each.
[02:12:46] <cmn32480> temporary Chritmas help
[02:13:01] <Bytram> and we're trying to put all the stock out and get it looking nice and count everything...
[02:13:05] <Bytram> all before the store opens.
[02:13:10] <Bytram> that didn't happen.
[02:13:25] <Bytram> but, it was an early opening, so it wasn't too busy to start
[02:13:26] <cmn32480> you don't sound too surprised
[02:13:32] <Bytram> was able to catch up on things.
[02:13:55] <Bytram> they are not new to the store -- they all have over one year
[02:14:09] <Bytram> at the least, and about a decade or more for theother two
[02:14:15] <cmn32480> just your department
[02:14:24] <Bytram> but, my department is not like the others... there is a LOT to learn
[02:14:34] <cmn32480> gotcha
[02:14:41] <Bytram> not just the product, but all the poilicies procedures, and the KEYS ... lotsa lotsa keys!
[02:14:52] <cmn32480> of course
[02:15:34] <cmn32480> sounds like a decent (if long) day
[02:15:45] <Bytram> sums it up pretty well.
[02:16:09] <Bytram> back at work at 0900 tomorrow, except that the city is doing more work on the water system...
[02:16:19] <cmn32480> ug
[02:16:28] <cmn32480> take your water bottle and empty mil jug!
[02:16:31] <Bytram> the water to my building is getting turned off at 0800
[02:17:02] <Bytram> so, I really NEED to get up early if I want to be fresh for work.
[02:17:25] <cmn32480> well. then get some dinner and some rest.
[02:17:51] <Bytram> should only take me a couple minutes to get dinner going... back in a few
[02:18:09] <Bytram> and will you please check on the kids, I think I hear the microwave go 'ding!'
[02:18:13] <Bytram> :P
[02:18:26] <cmn32480> one of them just rolled into my office
[02:18:26] <Bytram> afk brb
[02:21:16] F-ckB-t is now known as [BleepBloop]
[02:28:27] <Bytram> cmn32480: It's been a while since the poll was updated... got any ideas?
[02:28:53] <cmn32480> I have one set to go out tomorrow morning at 8am Eastern, I think
[02:29:32] <Bytram> ooh, nice!
[02:29:53] <cmn32480> I figured out I can do that, so since we had a decent on in the sub queue I took it
[02:30:14] <cmn32480> I also figured out that the link for previous polls shows the scheduled ones too
[02:30:20] <Bytram> yeah, I remember seeing one there and was going to look at putting it out
[02:30:22] <cmn32480> which I didn't know
[02:30:26] <Bytram> =)
[02:30:40] <Bytram> I had kinda taken on the pollmeister roll
[02:30:46] <Bytram> ncie to have someone else who knows how to do it
[02:30:53] <cmn32480> oh no
[02:30:59] <cmn32480> I forget how
[02:31:04] <cmn32480> I think I screwed it
[02:31:05] <cmn32480> up
[02:31:09] <cmn32480> It's broken
[02:31:10] <Bytram> it's like a bicycle -- you're screwed
[02:31:14] <cmn32480> it was somebody esle
[02:31:15] <Bytram> sorry!
[02:31:27] <cmn32480> IT WASN"T MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[02:32:20] <Bytram> I was kind of surprised there were not more comments / votes on the current poll.
[02:32:53] <cmn32480> not really...
[02:32:57] <Bytram> hmmm, here's an idea: what is your current comment threshold and why?
[02:32:58] <cmn32480> kindof a dull topic
[02:33:07] <cmn32480> interesting
[02:33:18] <cmn32480> schedule it, 10 days out from the current one going live
[02:33:27] <Bytram> I was trying to get people to take note of CDNs and all the intersite stuff that gets pulled from all over kingdom come
[02:33:44] <Bytram> yes, i know I can do that.
[02:33:50] <Bytram> what do you think of it as a poll qestions?
[02:33:56] <cmn32480> I didn't know until today!
[02:34:00] <cmn32480> but Iforgot already
[02:34:26] * Bytram smakes cmn32480 upside the head -- that always works in the movies.
[02:34:31] <cmn32480> i think it is interesting as a meta poll question
[02:34:40] <Bytram> run with it?
[02:34:50] <Bytram> I was hoping to come up with something more 'seasonal'
[02:35:08] <cmn32480> certainly... but walk. poll questions are like scissors, gotta be careful or you can hurtsomeone
[02:35:26] <Bytram> is that you, Edward?
[02:35:35] <cmn32480> no.
[02:35:38] * Bytram wonders if that was too obtuse a reference
[02:35:47] <cmn32480> he keeps cutting the USB cable to my keyboard when he tries to type
[02:36:04] <Bytram> LOL! Get a wireless kbd!
[02:36:10] <cmn32480> no
[02:36:15] <cmn32480> not only no
[02:36:18] <cmn32480> but hell no
[02:36:29] <cmn32480> they are all problem and minimal benefit
[02:36:40] <cmn32480> I hate them at work
[02:36:47] <Bytram> problem(s)?
[02:36:49] <cmn32480> we have two people who HAD to have them.
[02:36:58] <cmn32480> and they are the biggest pain in the ass.
[02:37:12] <Bytram> were they off-brand?
[02:37:30] <cmn32480> Logitech
[02:37:47] <Bytram> I had no problem with mine except I eventually wore out the contacts, and it would not register all my keystrokes.
[02:37:51] <Bytram> thas a good name
[02:38:00] <Bytram> bluetooth or WiFi?
[02:38:10] <Bytram> mine were wifi
[02:38:16] <cmn32480> I think they are wifi
[02:38:22] <cmn32480> but I no longer support them.
[02:38:24] <Bytram> HP and then... /me has to go look
[02:38:26] <cmn32480> not even battereies
[02:38:54] <cmn32480> these two nimnobs never take their laptops anywhere. and would have about 6 inches of wire on their desks.
[02:39:26] <Bytram> no name knockoff "Mi Micro" or somesuch
[02:40:10] <cmn32480> I don't think I ever played half life 2.

[02:41:10] <Bytram> noice!
[02:41:31] <cmn32480> many are online multiplayer only
[02:41:38] <cmn32480> but steam at least makes that easy
[02:42:01] <Bytram> last game I spent any real time on was Myst
[02:42:18] <Bytram> well, except for Sudoku, of course

[19:39:46] <cmn32480> antivirus was telling me that my backup software was a virus....
[19:39:56] <cmn32480> that took a while to figure out why it woudln't start
[19:40:58] <cmn32480> test environment that I got set up for a consultant over the weekend (that worked when I set it up and tested it) went up in flames
[19:41:09] <cmn32480> or down in flames, depending on your perspective
[19:41:45] <cmn32480> I have idiots who can't seem to understand that tehy don't ahve to hit # anymore to get an outside line
[19:42:58] <cmn32480> it is 3pm and I JUST started eating lunch
[19:43:05] <cmn32480> the coffe pot is empty
[19:43:11] <cmn32480> and I ahve to piss
[19:44:07] <cmn32480> at least the last two I can do somethign about
[19:44:22] <cmn32480> but I feel better for having typed all that out
[19:44:31] <cmn32480> thanks for listening
[19:44:33] <cmn32480> :-)
[19:49:26] <nick> i know those days
[19:49:28] <cmn32480> oh.. and it looks like Dell doubled my order, which would be awesome if they hadn't billed me for it too.
[19:49:42] <nick> :(
[19:49:52] <cmn32480> <sigh>
[19:50:26] <cmn32480> it's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
[19:50:37] <nick> i've had a generally productive day, so apologies for offloading the bullshit onto your day
[19:50:43] <nick> it's nearly 8 here
[19:50:58] <cmn32480> excellent. that means it'll be 5pm here soon.
[19:51:06] <cmn32480> not soon enough... but soon
[19:51:26] <cmn32480> it's ok to offload.
[19:51:33] <cmn32480> we all help each other
[19:52:01] <cmn32480> I seem to recall that we all kinda vent at each other and the wind from said venting makes the world go round
[19:52:29] <nick> it is good to do
[19:52:39] <nick> say it, or put it into words, the days bullshit
[19:56:57] <cmn32480> and I jsut had a VP walk in and ask me what laptop to get his wife for Christmas
[19:57:10] * cmn32480 starts looking for a third floor window to jump from
[20:00:16] <nick> a contractor on this project i'm stuck on for now, on another job of his last weekend, one of his workers left water running in a bathroom and flooded the place out,
[20:00:36] <cmn32480> oh shit
[20:00:41] <nick> multi-million apartment that's been going on for over a year, supposed to be almost finished
[20:01:49] <nick> lost on the job already, and now this, so as you can imagine
[20:02:08] <nick> he's not so happy and didn't make it this morning
[20:02:59] <cmn32480> not too surprising
[20:03:03] <cmn32480> that sucks
[20:03:12] <cmn32480> makes me feel marginally better
[20:03:48] <nick> my opinion though, not trying to be an asshole, but i think he hires bad people, and had to hire 2x as many as he should to compensate for them being useless
[20:04:21] <cmn32480> sounds like a fair evaluation, knowing all taht I know about that project
[20:05:58] <nick> my hope was that he could be a good contractor that'd id be able to pass work on to
[20:06:28] <nick> but seriously not impressed by what ive seen
[20:08:31] <nick> it shouldn't be so hard to find decent people to do a job
[20:09:22] <cmn32480> no. it shoulnd't be, yet somehow it is
[21:22:31] -!- crutchy has quit [Quit: Leaving]
