[02:06:00] <Bytram> takyon: the blockquoted text was the original submitter's submission; the other text was my addition -- as we got quite a load of flack at one point for "putting words in a submitter's mouth", this was a technique to separzte one from the other without being too intrusive about it.
[02:06:54] <takyon> it breaks with what we have come to expect: that blockquoted text is from a source article while the rest is not. what I've done for the few articles I wanted to comment on is make a new paragraph beginning with <b>takyon:</b>
[02:07:56] <takyon> although I guess the submitter's name does prefix the blockquote
[02:08:55] <cmn32480> that coudl be read either way. I tend to agree that any additional thoughts we add on subs like that ought to have an {Editor's Note:} or somethign similar
[02:10:01] <takyon> I (would?) only use Editor's Note when I'm adding something that clarifies the submission or explains the editing process. I use my own name to add additional links, thoughts, or other goodies
[02:13:58] <Bytram> I was faced with the challenge to (1) edit a submission without putting words in their mouth, (2) producing a document that read easily and maintained a 'flow', and (3) clearly delineated what was in the original and what was my addition.
[02:15:13] <Bytram> short of an inserting some kind of 'aside' e.g "[Editor's addition]" which I personally find royally breaks the flow of the article, I see no other, simple, concise way of doing it.
