[12:35:45] <janrinok> lol - whatever will they think of next ...
[12:36:06] <cmn32480> i don't know but this working for a living thing is a bit of a pain

[12:36:23] <janrinok> that's one of the reasons I stopped :)
[12:36:54] <cmn32480> we all know the reason you stopped.
[12:37:10] <cmn32480> couldn't handle any more concerts in Berlin!
[12:37:36] <janrinok> well, I had to go to Iraq, and there weren't many concerts there...
[12:37:46] <cmn32480> see.. that is just no fun!
[12:38:01] <janrinok> exactly, but they gave me a boom-stick to play with
[12:38:15] <cmn32480> did the guys on the other side have boom sticks?
[12:38:21] <cmn32480> that makes it a lot less fun too
[12:38:40] <janrinok> lots of them did - and it does take away a fair amount of the fun
[12:39:18] <cmn32480> you see the latest ramble from MDC in the sub queue
[12:39:35] <janrinok> yep, I hope nobody is thinking of posting it...
[12:39:50] <cmn32480> I shoudl think not
[12:40:06] <janrinok> although I haven't looked at the queue as staff so I haven't seen any Ed Notes
[12:40:18] <cmn32480> just mine in that one
[12:40:39] <janrinok> I read it as non-staff, and will get round to looking at the work side of things later
[12:40:53] <cmn32480> ahhh interesting
[12:41:12] <cmn32480> my browser has my login saved, so I alway am in as staff.
[12:41:18] <janrinok> I'm just setting up a git repos on my raspberry Pi - a fantastic piece of kit for the price
[12:41:25] <cmn32480> cool
[12:41:48] <cmn32480> one of those thigns that I want to play with, but haven't had the time or the time really
[12:43:03] <janrinok> I've got 2 now, an original and the new updated version - both great fun and the latter can _almost_ work as a desktop. Bit slow on the kbd and mouse responses - but that might be a problem with my setup
[12:43:23] <janrinok> but for servers and playthings - absolutely brilliant
[12:44:11] <cmn32480> server as in like web server?
[12:44:45] <janrinok> yep
[12:44:49] <cmn32480> nifty
[12:45:05] <cmn32480> Dad was playing with Arduinos for controling stuff on his model trains
[12:45:26] <janrinok> I've got one of those too, but I haven't spent much time with it.
[12:52:00] <janrinok> I run my own internal web server for books, music, tech docs, etc on the RasPi, plus it does a lot of routine work like downloading rss feeds, checking for software updates, etc
[12:52:41] <janrinok> a 5v wall-wart and I cannot even measure what little power it is using.
[12:52:51] <cmn32480> interesting. I have a NAS that does that.
[12:54:47] <janrinok> the NAS will be significantly more reliable I would guess, and have much greater storage. My RasPi is currently fitted with a 16GB flash memory card and I use a USB connected hard drive for backup.
[12:56:35] <cmn32480> this is the one I use.

[13:02:32] <cmn32480> mine has 2TB mirrored
[13:02:48] <cmn32480> will get an upgrade to 4TB mirrored sometime early next year
[13:03:27] <cmn32480> but I'm not drowning for space at this point, so I am not too worried. but I need to look at the dates on the drives to make sure they don't go out of warranty

[13:59:39] <janrinok> did you get your Advanced Cruelty badge in the scouts?
[14:03:07] <cmn32480> I did actaully. One of the first badges I earned. But I got credited with time served becasue I had an older brother
[14:11:28] <janrinok> justly deserved, and your brother got his too?#
[14:20:40] <cmn32480> oh yes. we tortured the crap out of each other as kids
[14:21:07] <janrinok> fairly standard for brothers, but this was obviously not noted by the scouts...
[14:21:35] <cmn32480> I think they noted it. THat is why we got credit for time served

[18:25:42] <janrinok> we both enjoyed it, although some of the dishes were not as I had planned them, they were still very nice.

[18:29:23] <cmn32480> yeah but I won't get big miffed over chinese food. even home made
[18:30:14] <cmn32480> let S know I'm glad she finds me amusing. :-)
[18:30:54] <janrinok> will do, although to be fair we all find you amusing
[18:31:07] <cmn32480> what? like I'm some kind of clown?
[18:31:30] * janrinok seals lips, but finds laughing is difficult
[18:31:35] <cmn32480> clowns are scary
[18:31:45] <cmn32480> HOLD ME!!!!
[18:31:51] <janrinok> not in Chinese food they're not

[18:36:50] <cmn32480> I think doing it on S's lap would be thoroughly inappropriate. She's married for crimon'ys sake

[18:38:18] <janrinok> we're happy but she deserves better
[18:38:22] * cmn32480 stretches and wonders how he ended up on the floor
[18:38:40] <janrinok> On the other hand, I did well out of the situation
[18:38:56] <cmn32480> so you are saying that you shot high and did pretty well then?
[18:39:04] <cmn32480> ninja'd
[18:39:18] <janrinok> I'm pleased with my side of the deal
[18:39:29] <cmn32480> y'oughta be!
[18:39:44] <janrinok> you don't do so bad yourself
[18:40:28] <cmn32480> I too shot high. Tackled her after I knocked her off the branch, and dragged her by the hair to my cave
[18:41:34] <janrinok> whereas, in both of our cases, I suspect we were just so pleased to have found our future partners that we stood then grinning like idiotds
[18:41:53] <janrinok> there grinning like idiots *
[18:42:07] <cmn32480> you and me, or you and S?
[18:42:10] * cmn32480 is confused
[18:42:19] <janrinok> lol
[18:42:31] <cmn32480> 'cuz you and... not so much
[18:42:40] <cmn32480> *you and me
[18:42:45] <janrinok> you can be really hurtful at times
[18:43:26] <cmn32480> I'm pretty sure we have never looked into each others eyes.
[18:43:39] <cmn32480> but I can guarantee that we both grin like idiots regularly
[18:44:08] <cmn32480> but I did ask J for her number in the pouring rain... sh thought I was nuts
[18:44:15] <cmn32480> and she was right!
[18:44:16] <janrinok> she was correct
[18:44:30] <janrinok> only 1 second in it - but ninja'd
[18:44:38] <cmn32480> and yet, she married me anyway...
[18:44:47] <janrinok> took pity, probably
[18:45:14] <cmn32480> been talking to her I see?
[18:46:01] <janrinok> Unfortunately no, but I would welcome the opportunity to meet you both in person.
[18:46:13] <cmn32480> I think that'd be a hoot
[18:46:36] <cmn32480> almost certain to be a good time had by all
[18:46:44] <janrinok> yep
[18:48:04] <cmn32480> I'll have to see when we are going to that side of the pond
[18:48:13] <cmn32480> most liekly Scotland
[18:48:53] <janrinok> well, take us as you find us, but you would be welcome
[18:49:30] <cmn32480> I'll probably need a map and some directiosn to find you
[18:49:49] <janrinok> you certainly would, especially if you are looking in Scotland
[18:49:58] <cmn32480> so far all I have is "British guy in Northern France"
[18:50:11] <cmn32480> that should be enough, right?
[18:50:12] <janrinok> how much info do you need?
[18:50:24] <cmn32480> I guess it depends on my Google Fu
[18:50:41] <janrinok> I'd be disappointed if Google gave me away
[18:51:29] <janrinok> no problem though, if it gets to the stage where it is a possibility, I will give you all the info that you need
[18:51:32] <cmn32480> it isn't much help.... you search "jan rinok"... all I get is some website called Soylent news
[18:51:42] <janrinok> funny old thing that ...
[18:51:58] <cmn32480> it is almost as though it was anome de plume
[18:52:53] <cmn32480> I shall keep it in mind, but we are a fair bit out as yet
[18:53:02] <janrinok> .., or a chap who was born in Holland in 1682 ...
[18:53:06] <cmn32480> thankfully my frequent flyer miles don't expire....
[18:53:57] <cmn32480> and they are on an airline that actually flies over the Atlantic the whole way!
[18:54:23] <janrinok> better than stopping half way ...
[18:54:55] <cmn32480> I was thinking that Southwest flies to the Carribean whcih is technically like flying over the atlantic
[18:55:30] <janrinok> ah, it make more sense now
[18:56:02] <cmn32480> i only have miles on 2 airlines
[18:56:31] <cmn32480> Southwest - which is contineltal US and a couple places in Mexico, the Carribean, and Central America
[18:57:12] <cmn32480> the other is United, which flies virtually everywhere, but I haven't flown them in a number of years and only keep the milkes becaseu I have the credit card
[18:57:25] <cmn32480> but I have a LOT of miles on United
[18:57:53] <cmn32480> enough for 2 tickets, round trip to anywhere in the world, first class, at leat twice
[18:58:51] <janrinok> I wonder how you manage to clock up so many air miles - rhetorical question :)
[18:59:29] <cmn32480> the ones on United are virtually all from the credit card
[18:59:44] <cmn32480> over the last nearly 15(?) years
[19:01:52] <janrinok> I've just added a few stories to the queue, we're good until tomorrow morning your time
[19:03:01] <cmn32480> excellent. I will stuff some stuff in the queue tonight
[19:03:21] <janrinok> well don't waste those air miles coming to see me - enjoy yourselves while you can, you never know what the future may hold
[19:03:44] <cmn32480> but if we happent o be in the neighborhood
[19:03:48] <janrinok> but if you are coming this way anyway, we'll be glad to see you
[19:04:29] <cmn32480> _I_ want to go to Normandy... we'll have to see what J wants to do, but that is a few years out
[19:04:53] <janrinok> well, I don't plan on going anywhere in the next few years so I should still be here
