[00:11:30] <takyon> did someone kill off the swedish genome story?
[00:25:32] <CoolHand> takyon: I think janrinok did..
[00:26:02] <CoolHand> I was telling him that it seemed one of the main links was missing and hard to find, and then a bit later he told me he whacked it
[00:48:07] <takyon> i didn't know you could whack something off the story list
[00:48:10] <takyon> how is it done?
[01:04:08] -!- cmn32480 [cmn32480!~cmn32480@Soylent/Staff/Editor/cmn32480] has joined #editorial

[01:04:21] <cmn32480> hey coolhand, you out there?
[01:04:40] <juggs> Aha
[01:04:56] <cmn32480> you aren't coolhand. Your juggs
[01:05:07] <cmn32480> unless there is somethign I totally missed?
[01:06:14] <takyon> hey, how is a story removed from the story list
[01:06:24] <cmn32480> you mean a deletion?
[01:06:28] <takyon> yeah
[01:06:36] <cmn32480> which one you looking at?
[01:06:39] <juggs> cmn32480, takyon, CoolHand all in one place at the same time. (sorry if that was a repeat - dsl flaked out).
[01:06:44] <takyon> nothing now
[01:06:54] <takyon> I didn't think it was possible
[01:06:59] <cmn32480> It is
[01:07:00] <juggs> Show of hands - any of you used ZNC IRC bouncer before?
[01:07:10] <takyon> no
[01:07:12] <cmn32480> no
[01:07:27] <cmn32480> Coolhand = crickets
[01:07:33] <takyon> janrinok or somebody deleted the swedish genome story
[01:07:45] <takyon> not a big deal since it was messed up
[01:08:00] <takyon> but I wanted to know how to delete from the story list since I couldn't figure out weeks ago
[01:08:01] <cmn32480> a published story? or from the sub queue?
[01:08:08] -!- GungnirSniper [GungnirSniper!~GungnirSn@arbs-718-80-998-378.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] has joined #editorial
[01:08:21] <takyon> like an undisplayed story that has been accepted and moved out of the sub queue
[01:08:26] <cmn32480> oh.
[01:08:34] <cmn32480> I was thinking from the submission queu
[01:08:34] <takyon> I know how to delete subs
[01:09:03] <cmn32480> I figured you knew that, hence my confusion
[01:09:23] <takyon> it seems like you can delete from the "Story List" too
[01:09:27] <cmn32480> deleting from the published queue, I have no idea, but I know it can be done
[01:09:36] <juggs> OK. 2/3 is fine. I need to get you guys setup on the bouncer, I just wanted to figure if it was better to do a wiki guide for new bouncerees or to walk each of you through individually. Wiki it is.
[01:09:54] <cmn32480> your call juggs
[01:10:14] <takyon> i'm using HexChat on windows
[01:10:21] <cmn32480> me too
[01:11:24] <juggs> Do you know what a bouncer does or any remote idea of its purpose?
[01:11:57] <cmn32480> if I understand it correctly, it is like being logged in all the time. when you ACTUALLY log in, it gives scroll back to any missed conversations
[01:12:01] <takyon> it collects the messages that were posted when you were offline
[01:12:06] <juggs> that's not a trick question, just planning out what I should put in the guide
[01:12:13] <takyon> lol
[01:12:13] <cmn32480> of particular note is that it allows you to see if you got pinged
[01:13:32] <takyon> that reminds me I don't have a wiki account
[01:14:00] <cmn32480> don't forget to sign up for a wiki account takyon
[01:14:05] <cmn32480> sorry, I forgot to remind you
[01:16:04] <cmn32480> takyon - I think the deletion from the published queue is something that us lowly editors don't have rights for. I would guess that is reserved for senior staff by RBAC control
[01:16:56] <takyon> too bad, I'd love to litter it with crap, and then be able to delete it
[01:17:04] <juggs> cmn32480, whether you get pinged on reconnect is still down to how you configure your client. But yes the bouncer stays connected permanently on your behalf to the irc server. When you return from Mars or wherever you connect Hexchat to the bouncer and it replays everything that went on in whatever channels you happened to be in when you went away, The client parses that scrollback and does the pinging. Essentially, the bouncer is not additional
[01:17:04] <juggs> to your direct Hechat > irc connection, it supersedes it i.e. once you have a bouncer you only connect to the bouncer, the bouncer takes care of all connection to the ircd.
[01:17:29] -!- GungnirSniper has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
[01:18:04] <takyon> I'd like to be let into Club Soylent now
[01:18:13] <cmn32480> that is a very good explanation Juggs
[01:19:19] <cmn32480> I am just happy to be home for 5 whole days
[01:20:33] <juggs> In our case the bouncer runs on the same server as the ircd, so it's a bit weird to explain. But the bouncer could be anywhere. e.g. I'm n the UK, my bouncer is on a vps in the UK and it connects on behalf to SN, freenode, and a bunch of other networks...
[01:20:53] <juggs> ugh... my bouncer in in the Netherlands
[01:21:08] <takyon> wiki achieved. time to add myself to Who's Who
[01:22:32] <takyon> I need wiki permissions
[01:22:50] <cmn32480> takyon - if yo have an account, you can edit the wiki
[01:23:04] <takyon> not the Who's Who page, guess it's protected
[01:23:05] <cmn32480> for the who's who page, you have to edit the editors page
[01:23:24] <takyon> ok
[01:23:25] <cmn32480> once you add yourself to the editors page, the who's who gets updated
[01:23:41] <cmn32480> i went through the same exercise a few months back
[01:24:41] <juggs> It's all getting a bit Russell Brand in here :)
[01:25:02] <takyon> man I haven't used MediaWiki in years
[01:25:30] <juggs> I feel the pain.
[01:26:34] <takyon> I might write a microsoft story. They did a lot more than a cross platform version of Visual Studio in the last 48 hours
[01:26:56] <takyon> HoloLens, Android/iOS apps on Windows 10 phones, more..?
[01:28:53] <juggs> I think El Reg did a story on just that... ahh, yes here it is http://www.theregister.co.uk
[01:28:55] <TriggerWarning> ^ 03Burger me! Microsoft's chainsaw rampage through its sacred cows • The Register
[01:29:51] <takyon> yeah I did read that one
[01:29:59] <takyon> SoylentRegNews
[01:30:38] <takyon> I might throw in WIRED's coverage of HoloLens and a bit more on the traditional Windows 10 for desktops
[01:31:18] <juggs> Has Nadella gone Nutella? Or is it all in for MS?
[01:32:03] <takyon> I want to steer clear of the jokes
[01:32:23] <cmn32480> based on that article, looks like they are betting the farm on it
[01:32:29] <juggs> That's fine, I was just being daft.
[01:33:13] <takyon> what is this event even called
[01:33:36] <takyon> oh yeah I can throw in the Microsoft Edge (formerly Spartan) news
[01:34:04] <cmn32480> Microsoft Build Developer Conference 2015
[01:34:12] <juggs> Build 2015 ?
[01:34:18] <takyon> that's the one
[01:34:27] <takyon> and who can forget
[01:34:34] <takyon> Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi 2

[01:45:15] -!- cmn32480 has quit [Quit: See You Later]
[01:46:21] <takyon> my sub is a little El Reg heavy
[02:01:20] <juggs> I got some flak for that on my last subs - I kinda tried to retain the El Reg feel as that was where I sourced the subs. I don't think El Reg humour translates well to a US or Czech audience.
[02:02:47] <takyon> I just keep the humor over at El Reg when I use El Reg
[02:03:01] <takyon> usually the first line of the article could be used as an alternate headline, for instance
[02:03:36] <takyon> here's what I have so far
[02:04:02] <takyon> http://puu.sh
[02:04:29] <juggs> It's quite odd to have two takyons in the same place at the same time. At least so I'm told.
[02:05:31] <takyon> Tachyon hasn't said anything to me yet afaik
[02:05:49] <Tachyon> ?
[02:06:07] <Tachyon> i was here first ! :D
[02:06:48] <takyon> yeah but I was here last
[02:08:13] <juggs> aww damn, the universe collapsed! You guys are supposed to be transient. I didn't code the universe for two of you to exist in the same moment of 3d spacetime. Now I got to start over!
[02:11:01] <juggs> I'll call it bug. "Universe collapsed due to T collision" all lifeforms lost. Experiments eh..
[02:42:33] <takyon> that took a while
[03:38:01] -!- takyon has quit [Quit: Leaving]

[14:39:26] <CoolHand> I know we generally have all lower case style in dept name..
[14:39:41] <CoolHand> but if I want to throw some caps in there for a specific purppose, is it allowed just once ? :)

[14:40:06] <CoolHand> paulej72: sounds fun
[14:40:20] <CoolHand> paulej72: you're full of it today.. :)
[14:40:21] <janrinok> sure it is. We often use caps for abbreviations, for emphasis or simple gramatical requirements
[14:40:38] <paulej72> I am always full of it
[14:40:39] <CoolHand> janrinok: cool... just wanted to make sure from the "master" editor.. :)
[14:40:50] <janrinok> er, hardly, but thx
[14:43:23] <CoolHand> paulej72: but not always around throwing it out..
