[15:38:38] <LaminatorX> No word. I assumed at first he was occupied with new school-year business, but now I'm leaning towards his being the 50% attrition sample balanced against Azrael sticking around.
[15:39:15] <janrinok> yep, its a pity. I don't know about you but I am feeling pretty stretched at present.
[15:40:40] <LaminatorX> Yeah, we've accounted for 32 of the last 40 stories.
[15:41:26] <janrinok> If you don't mind me asking here - was that story just rushed on Saturday or would you rather discuss it elsewhere?
[15:41:33] <LaminatorX> We can do it for a while, but quality starts to slip. (cough Fired teacher story cough)
[15:44:01] <LaminatorX> I did post that as I was going to bed, but I also seem to have less of a problem with submitters opining than a majority of the community (at least as measured by comments) seems to expect. The learning experiences never stop around here.
[15:45:27] <janrinok> The shame of it is that it was not 2nd edited - seen, but no action taken - which might have avoided the situation. I was surprised by the reaction but I couldn't see the relevance of the last paragraph. But, there but for the Grace of God, as they say....
[15:48:16] <LaminatorX> Part of the concept for the summary, to my mind at least, is for the submitters to give a piece of their mind on the subject at hand for the rest of the community to read. Just the same, if any of you think I've misjudged where to draw the line, feel free to act. My posts aren't sacrosanct.

[15:50:21] <janrinok> Well, that is basically what I told Bytram. We are all editors together and have equal responsibility for what goes out, but I think he was a bit reluctant to cut the paragraph. But when the complaints started, he carried out the edit, while I emailed you, and we all had a discussion with NC and MrC too.
[15:51:39] <LaminatorX> I'm not super bent out of shape over the few "this is my last time visiting this site" comments, somebody like that would've been rubbed the wrong way by something sooner or later, but the vast preponderance of the commetns were negative, and that's not to be ignored.
[15:52:22] <janrinok> Chalk it up to another lesson, as you have already said. We 'think' that we may have lost 1 or 2 members (literally, no more than that) but I have made several comments in the thread since asking people to be patient why we work out what went wrong. The lack of eds means that stories are not being checked as rigorously as we might want them to be.
[15:54:04] <janrinok> NC was keen (on Saturday at least) that we follow up with our 'findings' and let the community know what we have done to prevent an occurrence. We've already issued apologies and the regulars seem to be happy at that.
[15:54:58] <janrinok> I can put a short piece together explaining the shortage of staff leading to the correct procedures not being followed, if you want?
[15:58:11] <LaminatorX> Hmm. I think a response in the thread itself might be preferable, rather than a seperate story. I hesitate to draw further attention to it beyond those who have already read it.
[15:59:18] <LaminatorX> It would be a good topic to discuss with the community in a broader sense at some point though, as we work out where our lines are, especially as people start writing more original content.
[16:00:11] <LaminatorX> It might be good to have an "OpEd" or "Rant" category, that people who don't want that sort of thing can just block from their feeds.
