[15:03:41] <Woods> I should get karma points for not correcting UK spelling made by Janrinok. But I think I just offset any karma I would get by saying this sentence.
[15:03:43] <Woods> PARADOX

[15:25:30] <janrinok> hi guys
[15:26:29] <Woods> Hey Janrinok.
[15:26:53] <janrinok> hi woods
[15:26:59] <janrinok> have a good weekend?
[15:27:06] <Woods> I did, how are you?
[15:27:28] <janrinok> not bad thx - glorious weather here again.
[15:27:58] <Woods> It is all gloomy and dark out here, care to switch?
[15:28:29] <janrinok> Nope :)
[15:37:04] <janrinok> what time of day hve you got Woods?
[15:37:23] <Woods> Right now, 8:37.
[15:37:40] <Woods> Sun comes up at about 7:00 for me.
[15:38:02] <janrinok> so not looking good for the rest of the day?
[15:38:31] <Woods> It may brighten up, but it will be soggy and gross for the rest of the day, most likely.
[15:39:10] <janrinok> My garden could do with some of your dampness, and you could do with a bit of our sunshine then....
[15:39:40] <Woods> Actually, with all the drought conditions going on, the damp is nice (For the plants)
[15:39:57] <Woods> But otherwise, yes.
[15:42:12] <janrinok> Ah, it can't be perfect all the time, can it? I'll have to spend some time this evening watering my plants and garden.
[15:44:14] <janrinok> I've checked your stories so far.
[15:44:43] <janrinok> If you could do mine if you get a moment please.
[15:45:55] <Woods> I just checked the " AMD Reveals Plans" one, and when I clicked on the link to check TFA, I was thinking to myself... "This would be a good article to post on SN"
[15:46:05] <Woods> I need to take a nap or something already, geeze.
[15:46:09] <janrinok> lol
[15:47:12] <Azrael> yo yo all
[15:47:20] <janrinok> hi Az
[15:48:15] <Woods> brb
[15:48:18] <Woods> Also, hi
[15:48:38] <janrinok> working from home again Azrael?
[15:55:31] <Azrael> janrinok: yep :)
[15:57:56] <janrinok> ... listening to the gentle lapping of the water, while gazing over the sun-bronzed landscape, enjoying all of the pleasures of a British summer?
[15:58:33] <janrinok> I was doing something similar until next door started up his lawnmower....
[16:05:06] <Woods> Janrinok: Couple of typos on "Can Obama Save the Bees"
[16:05:42] <Woods> "wries" writes, and "coloney" colony.
[16:06:05] <janrinok> I'm going blind!
[16:06:15] <Woods> You and Hugh Fritas, :P
[16:06:34] <Woods> Very very uncommon to find a typo that has slipped past the two of you.
[16:06:46] <janrinok> I wonder why it didn't show up in red during the edit?
[16:07:56] <janrinok> Looks like the/my spell check software isn't doing anything on any story....
[16:08:55] <Woods> Uh oh
[16:12:30] <Azrael> janrinok: nah, this time listening to lawn mowers

[16:15:06] <janrinok> It seems like I have a browser problem.
[16:15:32] <janrinok> ...it looks like I am having _lots_ of problems....
[16:16:06] <janrinok> did anyone else suffer an IRC glitch just then?
[16:16:11] <Azrael> nope
[16:16:15] <Azrael> just you
[16:16:28] <janrinok> I'm doomed, doomed I tell you....!
[16:18:37] <janrinok> I'll use the SBR - Standard British Response. Have a cup of tea!
[16:18:48] <Azrael> that'll work :D
[16:19:56] <Woods> Oh you two and your (no doubt) awesome accents.
[16:21:58] <Woods> Quick random question: Do British people think American accents are cool? Or is it just us that think yours are cool?
[16:22:22] <Azrael> Woods: opinion varies, often we find them massively irritating and grating :D
[16:22:35] <Woods> I kinda figured, lol
[16:22:43] <janrinok> We hear so many US accents from the TV that they tend not to have an attractive ring to us.
[16:22:53] <Azrael> though I live in a household with Americans so I get used to it
[16:24:13] <janrinok> When I've worked with Americans for long periods I tended not to even notice the accent - in fact, when in the US for a few months I even developed one! Not cool when I returned to UK.
[16:24:21] <Woods> Hm, interesting. Everyone I know swoons when they hear someone with a British accent
[16:24:28] <janrinok> Quite right too
[16:24:47] <Woods> Janrinok: Yeah, that is pretty typical though, even just being around someone with a different accent from me, I will pick up theirs and start to use it for myself.
[16:25:02] <Woods> I imagine if I lived with you for a few Months, I would sound the same.
[16:25:07] <Woods> As you*
[16:25:26] <janrinok> It does depend on the region they are from. There are some regional accents that you will not understand nor do they sound attractive to outsiders.
[16:25:58] <janrinok> You'd be a brave man to live with a brit in France and try to pick up any specific accent!
[16:26:35] <Woods> lol, I suppose this is true.
[16:26:56] <janrinok> And I have a Northern (British) accent so even Az would notice it straight away.
[16:28:00] <janrinok> Woods: If you fancy trying a stay in France - we have plenty of accommodation and you would be welcome.
[16:29:19] <Woods> I would love to try it some time, I may have to take you up on that one day.
[16:29:27] <janrinok> I've got my spell check working in IceWeasel but not in Firefox - and they are meant to be, essentially, identical. Any bright ideas?
[16:29:52] <Woods> Update Firefox?
[16:30:02] <Azrael> janrinok: pah, northeners! almost as bad a southerners!
[16:30:09] <Woods> Make sure the "check spelling as I type" box is checked in the options? Unless you have an addon...
[16:30:44] <Woods> What is funny, is that I doubt I could tell your accents apart if you two were in the same room.
[16:30:46] <janrinok> NO - never. I don't like the latest FF but the one I have matches the version of IW that I use.
[16:30:56] <Woods> Hehehe
[16:30:59] <Woods> I know that feel
[16:31:32] <Azrael> Woods: you might, my other half is American and she has been in the UK for 8-9 years, she still can't understand some regionak accents
[16:48:18] <janrinok> still no success with the spell checker, and I cannot find a difference in the configuration of the 2 browsers....
[16:54:27] <Woods> Which version of FF do you use?
[16:55:07] <janrinok> Version 22.0 with the corresponding version of IW - which follows Debian's own numbering system so will be meaningless to you.
[16:55:41] <janrinok> After 22, many of the addons stopped working - because Mozilla decided to make major changes to the codebase and API.
[16:57:31] <Woods> hm.
[16:57:48] <janrinok> exactly - eloquently put. 'hm'
[16:58:49] <Woods> You may have to go searching for a new spellcheck addon, if the default is not working.
[16:58:58] <Woods> Google seems to not know anything on the subject.
[16:59:16] <janrinok> ...probably something to do with these poor quality French electrons....
[17:03:11] <Woods> Probably.
[17:03:54] <janrinok> I'll probably end up writing my own add-ons that behave exactly the way I want them to.
[17:04:29] <janrinok> ...but I hate js with a vengence.
[17:04:58] <Woods> Yeah, good luck with that.
[17:25:04] <janrinok> OK, time for me to go afk for an hour or two. cu guys l8r

[19:17:44] <zizban> I just added the Higgs Boson story to the que if anyone wants to give it a looksee
[19:18:55] <mattie_p> I'll take a look, need a break from hauling boxes
[19:20:01] <zizban> OK. I have some time between students so I figured I'd have a go at it
[19:20:05] <mattie_p> sure
[19:20:12] <mattie_p> couple things I see off the bat
[19:20:36] <mattie_p> elusive used twice in one sentence, I'm going to change that
[19:21:26] <zizban> ah good catch
[19:22:48] <mattie_p> emdash is getting stripped also, should be some in the blockquote. I'm trying to figure out how to get them back in, might have to sub in commas
[19:23:29] <zizban> emdashes get block quoted? ah, so noted
[19:23:47] <mattie_p> no, there are supposed to be emdashes in the blockquote. they are in tfa
[19:23:54] <mattie_p> they just get stripped by slash for some reason
[19:24:16] <zizban> uh nice
[19:24:32] <zizban> little things always getcha
[19:25:23] <mattie_p> yeah, the quote looked a little off without punctuation: the bosons decay to fermions a group of particles that includes all leptons and quarks as predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics
[19:25:57] <zizban> LOL
[19:25:58] <mattie_p> those are the only discrepancies I saw
[19:25:58] <zizban> ya
[19:26:04] <zizban> thanks for checking
[19:26:07] <mattie_p> np

[20:05:21] <janrinok> good to hear.
[20:05:41] <janrinok> Back at work today in time to catch it from another student?
[20:06:23] <zizban> of course ;P
[20:06:27] <janrinok> lol
[20:07:59] <janrinok> 13 terraelectron volts sounds like, uh, quite a lot of car batteries....
[20:15:09] <zizban> Sure does
[20:15:17] <zizban> properly dave a lot on their electricity bills
[20:15:21] <zizban> save
[20:17:02] <janrinok> that was written with 'having a cold' spelling. I can hear you snuffling....!
[20:17:16] <zizban> I know! ;/
[20:17:26] <zizban> well I get to go home early, yeah!
