[00:00:25] <fyngyrz> Bytram: -1/misleading, -1/nonsense, 1/agree, and a change to -1/overrated so it works on 0-value posts. I like the idea of having more mod types. I've also talk previously about a more sophisticated mod system altogether, where mod ups and mod downs get listed separately as two ordinals; a post might be +5 pro mods and -3 anti mods, for instance. But that would take work, and any serious dev is on hold as I understand it.
[00:01:06] <fyngyrz> 0/thanks might be a good mod as well
[00:01:43] <fyngyrz> lets a respondent know their input was appreciated without raising its profile.
[00:01:56] <fyngyrz> um. And 0/no thanks. :)
[00:03:25] <fyngyrz> I guess it comes down to feeling very constrained by the mod system - I can't say what I mean to say about a post, and it's just not worth a reply. That's particularly the case with posts that are garbage. Why should I waste my time replying to a post that is full of trash? It doesn't deserve the attention. It *does* deserve a downmod. but I'd like to be more specific as to _why_ it does.
[00:05:09] <fyngyrz> Leave the existing mods along (except fix over-rated and under-rated if it behaves the same way. Those should work on non-modded posts. IMHO.)
[00:05:16] <fyngyrz> alng==>alone
[00:05:24] <fyngyrz> along, sigh
[00:08:23] <Deucalion> Free text Mod reasons? -1 My Reason.... why be constrained to a list to choose from ?
[05:32:04] <fyngyrz> I like that, but I suspect that it would take some coding, and coding is harder to come by
[11:15:29] <Bytram> that sounds like the tag system that /. tried out about 5 or so years in and then it kinda petered out.
[11:16:07] <Bytram> I would imagine that it is still in our code base, but who know what kind of shape it is in!
[11:19:45] <Bytram> well, looks like "tag" is not the word used to describe it... /me continues looking
[13:02:46] <Bytram> grrr. Looked through all the site vars and failed to see what I was looking for. Then again, I'm still waking up so I could easily have overlooked something.
[13:06:16] <Bytram> break time
[15:05:50] <fyngyrz> Hell, I miss stuff when I'm awake. A *Lot* of stuff
[15:45:01] <fyngyrz> I can think of some outliers that I might use if I could specify... +1 Understated, -1 ConspiracyTheory, -1 Superstitious, +1 Kind, +1 Helpful, -1 WTF... I'm sure others would find it similarly fun and flexible. In the end, it's all -1 or +1, so I don't see any reason not to go here. Other than someone would have to code it. :)
[15:45:23] <fyngyrz> +1 Hawt. :)
[17:17:51] <fyngyrz> +1 Science
[17:18:03] <fyngyrz> +1 CommonSense
[17:19:04] <fyngyrz> +1 IfOnly
[17:19:20] <fyngyrz> -1 NotHardly
[17:19:37] <fyngyrz> +1 GreatIdea
[17:20:12] <fyngyrz> -1 LameBait
[17:20:37] <fyngyrz> +1 Pizza
[17:20:48] <fyngyrz> +1 Spaghetti
[17:20:53] <fyngyrz> -1 Liver
[17:21:20] <fyngyrz> -1 MurkyWarmBeer
[17:21:51] <fyngyrz> -1 RightWingCrazy
[17:21:57] <fyngyrz> -1 LeftWingCrazy
[17:22:23] <fyngyrz> ...I can see needing more mod points. :)
[17:22:42] <fyngyrz> Mod points shoud be unlimited anyway, IMHO.
[17:23:21] <fyngyrz> -1 WhatsWrongWithYou?
[19:42:38] <fyngyrz> Mod points unlimited AND both a (+) total and a (-) total, with a composite threshold as now
[19:42:56] <fyngyrz> information++
[19:42:56] <Bender> karma - information: 1
[19:44:12] <fyngyrz> do the calculations as now, with -1 and +5 max, but the totals should just be totals with no limits. For instance, a post with -5 and plus 11 ends up at +5
[19:44:28] <fyngyrz> but the 5 and 11 both show aat the read-a-post level
[19:44:35] <fyngyrz> That would be *so* nice :)
[19:45:12] <fyngyrz> Hell, I'd fork Soylent to do it if it wasn't written in Sanskrit.
