[01:25:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> fyngyrz, gracias. back up.
[01:32:40] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: What happened? I swear I didn't touch it!!
[01:33:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> eh, mysql and nginx both decided to go down. beats me why. don't really care on dev.
[01:34:00] <Bytram> nod nod; just curious
[01:34:17] <Bytram> Maybe they wanted to take a vacation, too.
[01:34:33] <Bytram> I take it you are back? Or are you still on vacation?
[01:35:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> back. and back to the church. sigh.
[01:35:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> taking tuesday morning off to hit the lake since i got my boat all happy again.
[01:36:11] <Bytram> wb! Hope you had a chance to rest up and relax
[01:36:17] <Bytram> good for you
[01:36:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> wasn't vacation earlier though. just unexpected necessary travel.
[01:36:31] <Bytram> ah. okay.
[01:36:40] <Bytram> I hope everything worked out.
[01:36:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah. still a nice break from manual labor.
[01:37:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> or at least hard manual labor.
[01:38:00] * Bytram remembers, all too well, digging out a bulkhead by hand as a teen; the last 12-18 inches was solid blue clay.
[01:38:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> s'exactly what i was digging this morning except it was hardpan red clay
[01:38:42] <Bytram> :ouch:
[01:38:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> well, except for the top 32nd of an inch that water had managed to seep into.
[01:39:06] <Bytram> THAT much!!
[01:39:38] <Bytram> I remember thinking that water might help loosen the clay and make it easier to dig; just ended up with hard and wet clay to dig.
[01:40:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> ya, i was kinda impressed it managed any at all. that stuff was about a week away from becoming shale.
[01:40:16] <Bytram> rOfl
[01:40:32] <Bytram> You DO have a way with words!
[01:40:51] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh water does help if you have a couple inches and muck boots. cools your feet down at least.
[01:41:05] <Bytram> no muck boots for me
[01:41:10] <Bytram> sneakers--
[01:41:10] <Bender> karma - sneakers: -1
[01:41:30] <Bytram> ${abbr NASA}
[01:41:30] <fungus> <abbr title="National Aeronautics and Space Administration (US)">NASA</abbr>
[01:42:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> suck. we intentionally didn't pump all the water out last time so the dirt would be easier to move with a hoe. side effect of cooling the feet down when it's hot and humid ain't a bad one.
[01:43:17] <Bytram> tru dat
[01:43:31] <Bytram> OTOH, water ain't weightless, either.
[01:43:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> got about... 50-60 feet of drain burrito (drain + 3/4" drain rock + filter material sock) left to go out of 150ish.
[01:44:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> prolly get ~20' done tomorrow then several days of shovel and hoe time.
[01:44:48] <Bytram> that's a lot of work!
[01:45:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> epically suck project, yes. as soon as i'm done i'm never even admitting to knowing what a french drain is again.
[01:46:20] <Bytram> Not sure I'm understanding the need for the French drain. Around these parts, they just pain the concrete with tar and call it good. Seems to work unless you are built below a slope and subterranean water wants to flow through your foundation.
[01:46:32] <Bytram> s/pain/paint/
[01:46:47] -!- exec [exec!~exec@crutchys.brothel] has joined #dev
[01:46:50] <Bytram> ~sed on
[01:46:52] <exec> sed enabled for 10#dev
[01:49:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> ground stays saturated most of the year and yard at the neighbors to the west is about 8' above where grade is at the church. so both below a slope and dealing with ground that's naturally near saturated.
[01:49:46] <Bytram> blargh
[01:50:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> mostly because water was coming through the basement walls every time it rained though. physics ain't that interesting if your stuff is getting ruined.
[01:50:14] <Bytram> So were there known basement problems with the church when you got it?
[01:50:24] <Bytram> ninja'd
[01:50:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> yep, which is why we got it so cheap.
[01:50:48] <Bytram> hmmm, poured concrete or cinder block?
[01:51:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> two layers of cinder block.
[01:51:15] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:51:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> shitty construction imo but it'll do after we get this way overengineered drain in.
[01:52:02] <Bytram> is there enough of a downslope that you can feed the french drain downhill, or will you need a sump pump?
[01:52:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> rest of the church is solid as hell construction, so i've no idea why they skimped
[01:52:41] <Bytram> "Build not your foundation upon the sand"
[01:52:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> pump. using a poly culvert turned vertical for a pump well.
[01:53:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> got a generator if power goes out while it needs pumping and a spare pump if the first breaks.
[01:53:41] <Bytram> external to the basement, I hope.
[01:53:46] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh absolutely
[01:53:51] <Bytram> godd good
[01:54:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> whole idea of a house is to keep the weather outside
[01:54:05] * Bytram has been spending too much time bnear cmn32480
[01:54:18] <Bytram> agreed
[01:54:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> only water i want inside is the stuff in the pipes
[01:54:52] <Bytram> is a good place for it, yes.
[01:55:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> keeps it from making a nuisance of itself.
[01:55:36] <Bytram> and electricity should stay in the wires, too.
[01:59:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, thas part of why we got rid of the carpet.
[01:59:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> smoke break
[01:59:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> nicotine++
[01:59:58] <Bender> karma - nicotine: 8
[02:15:13] <Bytram> break time for me
[07:05:42] <chromas> dev went down a couple weeks ago. The mysqld crashed but I didn't look at its logs
[07:56:31] -!- Barenflimski [Barenflimski!~ruffbot@o-57-1-10-14.hsd9.co.comcast.net] has joined #dev
[11:05:44] <Bytram> chromas++ thanks for the info!
[11:05:44] <Bender> karma - chromas: 11
[16:44:58] <chromas> Just think—with systemd, all thte logs would be in one place ;)
[18:36:08] <fyngyrz> (doesn't have systemd) but all my logs are in /var/log/* ... same?
[18:36:36] <fyngyrz> it's not like I have any trouble finding them, anyway
[21:28:42] <TheMightyBuzzard> all my logs are under the carport. well, except the ones i'm using to smoke some pig/cow/bird at the moment.
[23:02:59] -!- Barenflimski has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
