[08:43:16] <FatPhil> Bytram: it was while trying to edit the story, but the reason I was editing the story was because the url was already mangled
[11:09:31] <Bytram> FatPhil: yeah... I see it now: https://soylentnews.org
[11:09:43] <Bytram> I ran into something like this long, long ago.
[11:10:45] <Bytram> What happens is this: When you load a story, the system loads the source HTML and *separately* renders the HTML for the preview you see.
[11:12:04] <Bytram> Make changes to the HTML, and, AIUI, the code renders the new HTML, but does not necessarily start from scratch with the updated html. (/me is waving hands a lot there)
[11:12:58] <Bytram> The workaround is to change the HTML, and immediately (without preview) hit the Update button. Then reload the story and see what comes up with that. Generally, it will work okay, then.
[11:14:10] <Bytram> I tried it on that story and had no luck on inserting "&" on my first try, but I was able to make another attempt and insert a bare "&" before the "t=200s" argument. Not ideal, but it should work.
[11:15:25] <Bytram> After hitting the update button, I again loaded the story as if to edit it, ( https://soylentnews.org ) and I verified that the bare ampersand *was* saved.
[11:16:19] <Bytram> It's some pretty hairy code, as far as I understand it, and it is very easy to fix one thing and cause bugs in other areas.
[11:17:46] <Bytram> There are all kinds of checks for UTF-8 / Unicode prohibited chars and char combinations, IDN (International Domain Names with Unicode chars in the URLS), and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember (haven't finished my first coffee yet this morning!)
[11:19:30] <Bytram> I've got to go to work today but can prolly check back in this PM. Let me know if you still have any issues. Feel free to practice on our development server: https://dev.soylentnews.org
[12:20:40] * FatPhil is at a beer festival - no sense expected for a while
[12:30:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> FatPhil, remember, you're representing all of SN at the festival. that includes EF. behave accordingly.
[17:54:46] <chromas> Do they have big bite hotdogs?
[19:55:57] <TheMightyBuzzard> so many penis jokes. so little time.
