[01:39:34] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: Appreciate your hard work to get things up and running! You have my vote for less-than-beefy hardware awareness... I've got a core2duo that tops out at about 2.5GHz
[01:40:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh i'm not worried about cpu really. you could probably run rehash on a first gen raspberry pi.
[01:40:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> ram is another story though.
[01:44:10] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:44:21] <Bytram> I've got, IIRC, 6GB on my lappy
[01:44:32] <Bytram> yup
[01:44:43] <Bytram> and atm have only 55% in use
[01:46:50] <TheMightyBuzzard> ideally the vm will be able to run in 512MB but i think 1GB would be better
[01:47:31] <Bytram> that I can spare...
[01:47:53] <Bytram> do you really think it could run on a raspberry pi?
[01:48:38] <TheMightyBuzzard> almost certainly, though you might want a separate db server.
[01:50:12] <Bytram> I could see that...
[01:50:29] <Bytram> might be worth breaking down and getting a couple/three of 'em then
[01:51:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> meh, after you get all the hardware necessary to make them run they're not really that cheap
[01:53:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> hrm, well a pi really should be able to run a dev environment worth of db as well as the server.
[01:53:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> it's not like we're even putting lithium's db into them.
[01:53:58] <Bytram> well, can't they run headless? just ssh in, right? Would only need some minimal case and a power supply, IIUC.
[01:54:26] <Bytram> brb... dinner is nearly ready
[01:56:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> case, power supply, sd card, wifi dongle, keyboard and usb key long enough to set up the OS
[02:03:33] * Bytram has spare sd cards and kbds lying around... thought the newer PIs had built-in wireless? ... USB key, though, what's that?
[02:05:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> something to put the install media on
[02:05:32] <Bytram> oh... you mean a USB stick, aka a thumb drive?
[02:05:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> yar
[02:05:43] <Bytram> gots those, too
[02:06:33] <Bytram> have little idea what I'd be doing to get it set up, but apparently there is a huge community to help with that
[02:07:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> not much to it. it's just a computer.
[02:07:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> admittedly an arm computer instead of x86
[02:07:43] <Bytram> duh... problem is I am much more familiar with userland stuff than I am with sysadmin activities
[02:09:38] <TheMightyBuzzard> there ain't much to it. once you get it set up you don't have to do anything but the occasional update and it keeps chugging along.
[02:10:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> speaking of, i really should get dev updated
[02:10:43] <Bytram> is it not up to date with the latest rehash release?
[02:11:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> system
[02:11:17] <chromas> d
[02:11:48] * TheMightyBuzzard shoots chromas dead 💥🔫
[02:11:55] <Bytram> ahhh... Ubuntu... 16.04 atm?
[02:12:30] <TheMightyBuzzard> no, gentoo
[02:12:46] <chromas> I propose an unholy hybrid
[02:12:48] <TheMightyBuzzard> it was the first one we gentoo'd, cause dev
[02:12:53] <chromas> genbuntoo
[02:13:02] <Bytram> oh, right... but that is only on *SOME* of our servers, right?
[02:13:05] <chromas> or ugentu
[02:13:17] <chromas> Do you still have the one centos box?
[02:13:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> ya, dev and one of the load balancers
[02:13:28] <TheMightyBuzzard> yes, you're talking on it
[02:14:02] <chromas> :'(

[10:31:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> Kuro, got `make build-environment` done with apache 2.4.29, perl 5.22.4, and mod_perl 2.0.10. now on to getting rehash built and tested on them.
[11:17:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> think i'm going to fuck off and play vidya this morning since i'm at a good stopping point. may work on it some in the afternoon.

[20:54:40] <Kuro> Hot damn TheMightyBuzzard you're a legend! Looking forward to getting this up and running.
[20:58:39] <Kuro> From the memory requirements this should be able to run on one of the lower tier aws lightsail instances, throw the DB on a smaller RDS instance, and figure out how to get images delivered via cloudfront.. but then again it seems like the site is not that image heavy and mostly text
[20:59:02] <Kuro> also TIL that irssi can handle rendering emojis
[20:59:36] <Kuro> And guessing by vidya you meants video games?
