[13:00:48] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: hi there! Thanks for bringing dev back up!
[13:01:23] <Bytram> I've started iterating through testing space[like] chars and quickly noticed me have inconsistent filters between dev and prod
[13:01:25] <Bytram> :(
[13:01:38] <TheMightyBuzzard> nod nod. it was a pain in the ass writing the openrc config for it but i wanted to do it proper instead of just writing an init script.
[13:02:05] <Bytram> MUCH obliged!
[13:02:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, feel free to adjust the dev ones to match.
[13:02:27] <Bytram> can we dispense with all of the cialis-like filters?
[13:03:03] <Bytram> I'd like to get the prod filters down to the minimum that we still do want, and then make them match
[13:03:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> as far as i'm concerned, sure.
[13:03:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> it's not like they're the hot new drug to spam anymore
[13:03:31] <Bytram> also, have you added ANY filters on dev to support the not-all-space subject?
[13:03:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> no
[13:04:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> it's handled in code so it shouldn't need a filter, though i think there is one.
[13:04:04] <Bytram> so, I could nuke ALL of the filters, and you'd still trap on any all-blank subject?
[13:04:10] <TheMightyBuzzard> yup
[13:04:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> more effectively even
[13:04:33] <Bytram> is what I *thought* but wanted to make sure
[13:05:53] * Bytram wishes the filters were listed in some sort of order
[13:05:55] <Bytram> hmmm
[13:08:01] <Bytram> where DID I get that from?
[13:08:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> get what from?
[13:09:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, i'll go through and clean up prod's filters here after a smoke. i'll let you make dev's match them after.
[13:09:35] <Bytram> there's a javscript utility I frewuently use: tablesorter
[13:09:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> javascript--
[13:09:53] <Bender> karma - javascript: -1
[13:10:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> actually, i don't want a smoke right now.
[13:11:05] <Bytram> well, in the admin interface, we are required to have JS active... thought it might be useful to make use of that, and avoid having to implement sorting in perl
[13:12:08] <Bytram> #g tablesorter jquery
[13:12:09] <MrPlow> http://tablesorter.com - "TIP! Sort multiple columns simultaneously by holding down the shift key and clicking a second, third or even fourth column header! Getting started. To use the tablesorter plugin, include the jQuery library and the tablesorter plugin inside the <head> tag of your HTML document: <script type=\"text/javascript\" ..."
[13:12:10] <upstart> ^ 03jQuery plugin: Tablesorter 2.0
[13:12:44] <chromas> Could you just add a sort to the query?
[13:13:03] * chromas doesn't know what's in the table
[13:13:36] <Bytram> chromas: yes, one can do that, but the results are read into a hash, and accessing that does not provide any explicit order AFAIK
[13:14:05] <chromas> Oh. Can you change the hash then?
[13:14:27] <chromas> Like have it use the first few chars or something, that way you can pull it out presorted
[13:14:46] <Bytram> fromprior discussions with TMB and a quick look through some search results, sorting in perl is, ummm, not pretty
[13:15:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, okay, trimmed the filters down to the ones i don't feel like removing for various reasons.
[13:15:39] <Bytram> wow, that was QUICK!
[13:15:42] * Bytram goes to look
[13:15:56] <chromas> So you're saying you want to rewrite rehash in python? -Cathy Newman
[13:16:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> delete button are fairly quick
[13:16:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, no, in rust
[13:16:25] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: okay, that matches up with what I suspected we needed.... THANK YOU!
[13:17:47] <Bytram> ouch.
[13:17:57] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, please don't feel the need to inform me that you get a 500 after hitting the delete button. i'm well aware of it after all those deletions.
[13:18:05] <Bytram> huh.
[13:18:13] <Bytram> that's what I was *jsut* about to do!
[13:18:18] * TheMightyBuzzard chuckles
[13:18:28] <Bytram> then what am I supposed to do after that?
[13:18:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> hit filters up above
[13:18:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> then list
[13:18:47] <Bytram> ahhh, k
[13:18:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> the deletion happens, it just doesn't send you to the right place after.
[13:19:00] <Bytram> blank page
[13:19:12] <Bytram> I've gotten that about 3 times already
[13:19:18] <Bytram> an absolutely blank page on dev
[13:19:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> weird
[13:19:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> i blame the internets. stupid tubes.
[13:19:49] <Bytram> just hit F5 and still had a blank page
[13:20:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> working fine for me
[13:20:12] <Bytram> tried F5 again (page refresh, btw) and it finally displayed https://dev.soylentnews.org
[13:20:13] <upstart> ^ 03- Dev.SN User ( https://dev.soylentnews.org )
[13:20:49] <Bytram> got another blank page, just clicked on the number link for the first filter that was on the list
[13:20:58] <Bytram> https://dev.soylentnews.org
[13:21:11] <Bytram> F5 worked this time
[13:21:31] <Bytram> delete 51
[13:21:36] <Bytram> 500 server error
[13:21:42] <Bytram> clicked Filters in admin bar
[13:21:46] <Bytram> another blank page
[13:21:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> that's something funky with your browser i think
[13:21:59] <Bytram> F5
[13:22:06] <Bytram> do you want to resubmit?
[13:22:09] <Bytram> clicked yes
[13:22:15] <Bytram> page displayed
[13:22:34] <Bytram> could you please try deleting a few on dev and see if you can reproduce?
[13:22:55] <Bytram> clicking on list just gave me another blank screen
[13:23:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> huh, yep, blank page on delete
[13:23:14] <Bytram> nod nod
[13:23:49] * TheMightyBuzzard shurgs
[13:24:17] * Bytram clicks on [27] comments cialis
[13:24:30] <Bytram> came up ok
[13:24:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> varnish maybe. no idea and not going to attempt to fix it this round since it don't affect anything we touch more than once in a blue moon.
[13:24:33] <Bytram> clicks delete filter
[13:24:49] <Bytram> got "Deleted filter# 27!" and server error
[13:24:59] <Bytram> clicks Filters in admin bar
[13:25:02] <Bytram> blank page
[13:25:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> don't bother debugging it. it's on the will not fix list until next update.
[13:26:22] <Bytram> k
[13:27:41] <Bytram> okay, just found this filter on dev:
[13:27:42] <Bytram> [66] comments &(shy|\#[0]*173|\#x[0]*AD)
[13:27:56] <Bytram> Iugh... here's the whole thing:
[13:27:57] <Bytram> [66] comments &(shy|\#[0]*173|\#x[0]*AD) postersubj 0 0 0 postersubj error message!
[13:28:04] <Bytram> okay to delete that one, too?
[13:28:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> yes
[13:29:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> match dev to prod precisely
[13:29:08] <Bytram> k
[13:29:11] <Bytram> thanks
[13:30:28] * chromas prepares a bunch of stories filled with soft hyphens
[13:30:48] * Bytram realizes, now, might have been a good idea to export those tables on prod and dev before pruning
[13:31:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> naw, there's nothing in them that can't be put back in a few minutes if need actually arises.
[13:32:48] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, you do it and you're going to have to write the perl to prevent it.
[13:33:06] <Bytram> these blank pages are annoying...have not been able to go from getting list, selecting a filter, clicking delte, and hitting Filters in Admin bar without getting at least one blank page, so far
[13:33:41] <chromas> s/.//g
[13:33:44] <Bytram> and... whadayaknow... just had one that DID work all the way through
[13:39:16] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: on prod, we still have filters # 1 and 2 which address spaces in the subject and comment, respectively... I suppose, that if they trigger inadvertantly, it is much easier to updat a filter than to change the code? so we should keep 'em?
[13:39:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, leave em be. they ain't hurting nothing.
[13:40:15] <Bytram> was what I thought, just confirming. thanks!
[14:04:57] <Bytram> okay, I've made a first pass at synching the filters so that dev matches prod... eyes are starting to get crossed and need to get ready for work, anyway.
