[01:38:28] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: Found our most-moderated comments, but ran into something that has me scratching my head... in the list of moderations performed, what is the reason for the asterisks next to the date/time stamp on this comment: https://soylentnews.org
[01:38:30] <aqu4> ^ "3SoylentNews Comments | Breaking News: Paris Attacks: Dozens Dead and Hostages Held at Bataclan [UPDATED]"
[01:39:28] <Bytram> also, when I count up the moderations in that list, I see 24, but the summary of the moderations performed says: " Troll=9, Insightful=4, Interesting=4, Informative=1, Funny=1, Underrated=1, Touché=1, Total=21"
[01:39:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> someone moderated it while it was too high or too low to accept any more moderations that way, so that moderation gets lost.
[01:41:08] <Bytram> hmmm, so I load the comment, see it's at +4, and decide to mod it up. In the meantime, someone else has the comment loaded, mods it up, and now it is actually at +5. Now I go to mod it up, and that's when this happens? I'd think it would just reported to me
[01:41:34] <Bytram> that the comment has already been modded to the limit and the mod did not apply. I also wonder, if they lost that mod point or not.
[01:41:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> yes, they lost it
[01:46:04] <Bytram> bummer! I canimagine how the code might work out that way, it basically assumes that all mods are going to be successful, and generally they are, but
[01:46:41] <Bytram> they should really assume that they are NOT successful, attempt the moderation, and on ly if it is, indeed, successul should the mod point be deducted from the user's available mod points.
[01:47:51] <chromas> We need a new stat: Lost modpoints
[01:51:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, i agree but i haven't got time to look into the inner workings of two heads of the SN site trying to keep moderation and points straight just now.
[01:52:13] <Bytram> nod nod
[01:53:04] <Bytram> not urgent, and like I said, for the most part, it does work... just fails in an unfortunate way -- user loses a mod point through no fault of their own.
[01:54:11] <Bytram> hmmm, if the code that does the moderation can detect that the mod "failed", might it be able to add back the mod point at that point in the code? I dunno, but offer that should you find yourself in that code at some point. Kludgey, but functional workaround
