[07:23:49] -!- crutchy [crutchy!~crutchy@709-27-2-01.cust.aussiebb.net] has joined #dev
[09:42:13] -!- crutchy has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[11:26:00] <mecctro> Think my (temporary) shell script for installing rehash on Debian 8 is done, anyone interested in testing it let me know.
[11:27:24] <mecctro> there's a few entry portions, so I'll se about packaging a deb or similar (I believe there is some rpm support built-in to the typical installer?)
[11:27:29] <mecctro> see*
[11:37:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> awesome, man. if you wanna do another one, have a go at slackware. that's where i'm pushing for us to migrate after 14.04 goes out of LTS support
[11:38:24] <mecctro> for now this is just a quick way to dump it all in one go for throw-away dev boxes.
[11:38:32] <chromas> embrace the d, man
[11:38:57] <mecctro> I'd like to look more into the packaging support in the typical installer, and add additional support there.
[11:40:06] <mecctro> I can test out the changes I have so far on a slackware box, and make any changes needed there.
[11:41:25] <mecctro> just make a slackware fork if it's gonna be a hassle ;)
[11:41:34] <mecctro> if you're THAT set on it... lol
[11:42:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> yar
[11:42:38] <TheMightyBuzzard> well we're not going gentoo and none of us want systemd, so...
[11:42:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> it's either that or NCommander is gonna move us to freebsd
[11:43:16] <mecctro> Support all the things.
[11:43:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> anyway, i'm out. gotta get a few more things together before i go get TSA groped
[11:43:49] <mecctro> most of the make support is already there, just might have some things here and there.
[11:44:01] <mecctro> no worried, GL on the jock grock.
[11:44:04] <mecctro> worries*
[11:49:45] <mecctro> oh, and, on a sidenote: I like systemd just fine ;)
[11:59:16] <NCommander> TheMightyBuzzard, I'd be willing to consider slackware if they're committed to avoiding systemd. It's not my favorite because the upgrade story still sucks on it though
[11:59:41] * NCommander would use Gentoo except I *don't* want the servers to be on a rolling release
[12:02:15] <mecctro> what then of freebsd?
[12:02:33] <NCommander> mecctro, I don't necessarily hate replacing sysvinit, but journald and the rest can bloody bite me
[12:03:13] <NCommander> mecctro, FreeBSD is nice :). The upgrade story is a little bleh since you have to upgrade core, then deal with re-installing ports but its not horrid
[12:04:31] <mecctro> I think it'd be one of the better options if you're really set on no-systemd
[12:08:33] <mecctro> either way, I'm not a big fan of ubuntu
[12:08:46] <mecctro> or most of the other debian-based distros
[12:09:24] <mecctro> unless I feel like living on the edge or something... I like my musty debian.
[12:14:17] <mecctro> dumping back to sysvinit on deb 8 wouldn't be a huge pain...
[12:16:59] <mecctro> sysvinit only*
[12:58:30] <chromas> NCommander: you know what this means. Your next project is rewriting journald
[15:15:23] <NCommander> chromas, um. no.
[15:15:38] <NCommander> you can't pay me enough to work with Lennard or his code
