[10:30:21] -!- FatPhil [FatPhil!phil@azdr.ee] has joined #dev
[10:32:20] <FatPhil> How much work would a "folding@home status" side-box be? Even though I don't contribute (yeah, like my raspberry pi and 14-year-old 32-bit athlon would ever finish a block, and my leccy-bill is high enough already), but I'd certainly enable it were it to exist.
[10:34:48] <TheMightyBuzzard> for the group as a whole? not terribly difficult at all.
[10:35:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> crutchy already wrote a script for exec that gets our rank.
[10:35:26] <TheMightyBuzzard> be easy to port it to perl and put it in a slashbox
[10:36:29] <chromas> would it be better to have a cron script update it into a cache every couple hours and have the box just read the cache?
[10:36:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> prolly
[10:37:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> better still to store it in the db
[10:37:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> with a timestamp
[10:37:38] <FatPhil> it only seems to change every 3 hours, so creating a static file and just injecting it seems to make sense
[10:38:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, we try and avoid static files though on account of having two separate web frontends without using NFS for the webroot
[10:39:03] <FatPhil> some memcached thing then?
[10:39:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> could, yeah.
[10:40:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> in fact i wrote one that's just sitting on github and not being used on account of we don't need a memory cache at this point.
[10:40:37] <TheMightyBuzzard> tried it on dev and got zero speedup
